SMN need less casting time for dots

because smn start doing dps after 5 seconds from any fight..


Bio II : casting time ( 2.5 seconds) "with some gears it can reduce to 2.43"

Miasma : casting time ( 2.5 seconds) "with some gears it can reduce to 2.43"

Bio : instant .. but u cant cast for the next 2.5 seconds except Fester.

for fast killing .. smn is the worse of all

DoT classes aren't generally meant to be bursty. At the start at least.
That's more BLM territory.

Plus you have your Egi to help dps.

SMN strengths aren't on trash mobs, as they die too quickly. SMN really shine on bosses. They have the highest sustained DPS in game right now if played correctly, and can melt HP away.

That's stupid.

In 10 seconds after starting you have done 815 potency if you have an aetherflow stack on a single target. The initial fester after applying dots makes up for any missing potency another class would have done by that point, and from then on we're constantly doing some of the highest potency per gcd of any class in the game.

Maybe this isnt the class for you. Theres no reason Summoners should have a shorter casting time. and if its that important to you, stack Spell Speed. Your trash-pick up dps are BLM and DRG. Your boss killers are SUM and MNK. Bard is kinda in the middle.

SMN is fine against trash, after that 5s for Bio II and Miasma and then a second or so for Bio to apply, you get to Bane and Fester and are quite potent even if overgearing the content. You also have to consider Garuda is a permanent 200+ damage DoT with no apply time. SMN is perfectly fine in dungeons, far from the worst. It's only slightly hampered in 10+ enemy pulls where DRG/BRD/BLM are unrestrained and SMN is for once not dominant.

If you want to see the worst job in the game against trash, try playing MNK. The basis of the class, ST DPS with significant ramp-up and poor AoE (outside of once ever 3 minutes), is as anti-dungeon as it gets.

No. For lesser cast time or namely; Buff, it should go to BLM.

I am serious. They are now one of the lower DPS class. SMN just sits at the top comfortably. I can slack whole day and still comes on top most of the time.

Your Fester is your burst.

anything that absolutly needs to die fast (such as gaols in titan ex, conflags in turn 5 and the bulbs in turn 6, etc) can all be killed with time to spare with careful aetherflow management, to the point where as a summoner, im usualy highest damage on all of the targets mentioned, thats even with a black mage in party.

good aetherflow management is the difference between a good summoner, and a great one, it just takes a lot of practice.

Because of GCD the less casting time (like mentioned in your thread title) would not fix the not existing problem

i would like to try a spell speed based gear, i would like to know how it changes my dps.
honestly, spell speed for smn is not a real problem. you can't have instant dots, it would be no sense.
and remember that you already have instant cast like bio, miasma2,ruin2

Idunno what you're talking about. Im usually the first one to damage against Titan in titan ex. I'd already have raging strike'd dots up contagion & swiftcast shadowflare and rouse on Garuda for good measure before he does his first landslide. By the time of his first WoL im already festering and getting criticals like a mofo. You need to run with better SMN's

You also forget SMN doesn't need a cast time reduction for the simple fact in most fights a SMN's damage never has to end. For all the melee classes and range except for BRD eventually they all have to stop dpsing. A SMN doesn't. My dots, and often shadow flare, + garuda on rouse & spure is going on most of the fight against titan. Ive had bosses actually die off screen because of em. In lost city the boss died while we were going through the doors because of dots + garuda.

Urgghhh, I'm leveling monk right now and it is horrible. Tanks who keep enemies' back to the wall, or spin them around for no reason. Then it takes so long to get all those greased lightning stacks and they inevitably fall off between pulls ;_;

On a boss I'm all WA-POW!!! but on trash it's all plink-plink and running around like a headless chicken. Don't even get me started on trying to do solo content. It's the worst.

Sure, just give Monks GL3 and DRGs Disembowel/HT on first hit

Summoners are single target casters. They kill fast that way combined with your egi you kill a single target faster then a BLM will. We shine on bosses if you ask me but are lower on packs of mobs, thats where BLM shines.

My rotation is by far prolly not the best around but it works haha. I use Raging Strikes(archer), then Bio II, Miasma, Bio, Garuda's skill(forget the name) then Bane if there's multiple mobs or else I cast Fester. If there is multiple mobs, i'll throw a shadow flare in the beginning or after Bane. After that I cast Ruin till I can Fester, repeat. works like a charm.
