registered is the max number, no one ever speaks about active sub.
alot of people have 2 accounts then you have rmt.
Just 2 million registered accounts. I doubt they will tell us how many active subs there are. They've been dodging that info for months.
What is registered users exactly? Is it per SE account? Per service id? However yes, the true test is unique active subs. Many people have a PC and PS3 version (me included), and a lot of PS3 ppl went to PS4. IIRC Yoshi said 500k people were logging in per day at peak a few months ago (though I can't recall if this was measure before 2.1 or after). 500k is pretty good if it's stable (FFXI sat at that number for a while).
Nobody is dodging anything. Disclosing that there are 2 million registered accounts is nothing more than a marketing decision. SE has no obligation to players to release the number of active subs. And why in the world would SE release an active subs number that is less than registered accounts? That would be a terrible business decision.
The numbers were disclosed around October-November of last year. They had a slideshow and everything to go with it. Registered users = customers that have purchased the product and created an account. Whether that account is still active and not in a cancelled status? I don't know.
The reason I say dodging is because they haven't given us another slide (see above) stating how many players are online. I never said they owe us anything; they showed us 500k people online and now won't say anything 6-7 months later. All they keep telling us is how many registered accounts there are; first at 1mil and now at 2. Many are wondering what the state of the game is and not seeing the number of active subs again bothers them.
Edit: Also, advertising how many registered accounts there are, doesn't tell anyone anything. It could be 500k players with 4 accounts, 1 million legit players and 1 million rmt, 500k players and 1.5 million who quit. I don't know why they are so quick to advertise the registered accounts number when it equates to nothing. If they do it for investors, that makes no sense. If investors think that because there are 2 million accounts, the active subs are anywhere close to that, they need to stop drinking the kool-aid.
Not sure FF11 ever hit 500,000 players logging on daily. They hit 500,000 subs.Quote:

You can have an account, with a sub, and log in once or twice a week, too. Those wouldn't be counted. You know those people who log on Monday (now Tuesday) and don't log til the next one? Not counted.
They'll be counted in the 2 million people who bought the game, not in the 500,000 people who login daily. Since they don't login daily. Logic.Quote:
Those people would be counted. If you pay a monthly fee, regardless of if you even log in once, it is still counted because it makes the MMO money.
So how many of those are RMT?
Does the active number really matter? If they give that out I can only imagine the increase in threads "FF14 is dying!!!" cause that is what I see happening. It was bad enough on WoW forums I dont want it here to. I am really content with the game look forward to the future and if all they wanna share is registered numbers I am fine~
Grats on hitting the 2 million registered mark, Yoshida-san. With hope you can translate that into a high number of stable subscriptions that will keep this game going.
You're getting more and more people interested but the work's far from over. Got to keep them interested, and entertained. It's tough work, but I'm rooting for ya.
companies advertise things all the time that amount to nothing. 2 million registered accounts sounds nice. it even sounds amazing. 2 million registered accounts in the approximate 8 months the game has been live. in the day where people get their news in 2 second sound clips, 2 million registered accounts would be a highly effective advertisement. for example, if someone is at the store wondering if they should purchase FFXIV and they see 2 million accounts, the reasonable first thought will likely be, "Wow! 2 million people play this game! I want to join in!" Advertisement success. It also makes perfect sense to advertise it to investors. "Wow you sell a product that got 2 million people to sign up in less than a year!" Bam! Advertisement success.
It's just a marketing thing. Even if 2 million registered accounts means nothing to you, it might mean something to someone on the fence about playing the game. If seeing a big number of users (or potential users) gets even one person in the door, then SE can chalk that up as W. And in the end, that's what's most important, getting as many people in the door to keep your product making money and relevant. Any business that wants to make money or even survive would do the same, so you can't blame SE for touting any achievement they can to keep the buzz going.
