The remaining half of Eorzea?

There are currently 3 towns and 5 zones in game. However the CE map clearly shows 6 towns and 10 zones. We lack the following:

Ishgard
Ala Mhigo
Sharlayan
--------------
O'Ghomoro
Dravania
Gyr Abania
Paglth'an
Xelphatol

So we currently only have half of Eorzea available. I'm really disappointed about this and would like to know if there are any plans when/if these areas will be implemented. I really think these areas should have been there since release.

More like 15 other major zones, and not to mention in La Noscea alone I found 3 zones that go no where, with an NPC standing nearby. And in Thanalan I found 2-3 areas that are like caves in the ground, but are also blocked by an invisible wall. I'm sure there are several in the Black Shroud and the last 2 zones as well. {More than likely those are being reserved for dungeons and future content, but its just blah having so many areas blocked off, when there should have been something there already...}

They are most likely saving these areas for the release of an expansion.

They said they don't plan to open them until they have the game structurally where they want it. I can agree with that, I don't want them having to go and redo the zones before they get the basic xp algorithms and mob placement figured out in the zones we already have.

I hope they don't leave these for an expansion, but it's going to be a long, long time before the rest of Eorzea is fleshed out. Keep in mind that they still have to redo a lot of the game's core and it's a bad idea to add content before the game core is done.

I find it sad that I paid for a game that has half the world inaccessible.

do noted. Which is the reason why 85% of the people who purchased this game (especially the CE) are disappointed. It makes it easier for me if I look at it from a basis that FFXIV is still in it's beta phase, and we are all the testers.

I agree that fixing the game system is #1 priority but I'd like to know if they are even working at this at the moment. Do they have any idea how will they make these zones or do they need to start from nothing? I don't know about you but I wouldn't like to wait another year for these zones to pop.

While I'd like to see these towns/zones as well, I'd be really disappointed if I walked in and they contained the same copy/paste environments that the other zones do.

If these zones are completely finished, then it might make sense to implement them even if they aren't so great. However, I would guess that they were never completed. If any work was put into these zones before Yoshida's team took over, I would imagine that they were on their way to being as bland and repetitious as the current areas. In that case, I would rather the new team re-work them from the ground up rather than spend time finishing what was started. Given the circumstances, I wouldn't expect the new zones to open up until the current zone redesign is finished (which won't be for a very long time, unfortunately).

I don't mean to discount how the OP feels, however. I, too, get curious when I see that map, and I'd really like to explore those areas. And I agree that you shouldn't release a game with half of the vanilla version world completely closed off. It's incredibly disappointing.

But what's done is done, I suppose. I just hope that when we finally do have the ability to explore the rest of Eorzea, the new zones are done right.

I do think that all of the areas you mention are in fact dungeon entrances/placeholders.

I would rather they fill the current zones with meaningful content before they release new zones. I am willing to wait to make sure the new zones don't end up being repeats of the barren zones we have now. 15 empty zones aren't much better than 5 empty zones.

I am too, but not forever. Especially since they should have already existed.

While I'd love to see the uncharted zones, I must say those names are doozies... Wish they'd use names we can pronounce :(

It would prefer if we didn't knew those zones existed. That way, when they actually become available the reaction would like "OMG new content!!!" Except of course, those who say "no! they were already on the .dat (s)"

Guys remember that the world of FFXIV is made from an engine. This engine is like.. comparable to a world creator for Civilization, red alert, or age of empire games. You just drag and drop what you want. I'm sure it's not THAT easy, but I think it's good to realize that they have most of the tools they already need to create new worlds. Right now they are working on the Engine itself. Once the engine is complete, they can add new zones I bet very quickly. Look how beautiful FFXIII was. That was the same engine that made FFXIV. They just need to dedicate some time into it, and I'm sure they will get on that once they are fully satisfied with what we have now. :)

Square Enix has a secret wepon with this crystal engine. the abiliy to make the most beautiful, adventurefull world EVER. First they have to get the other stuff working. Combat, exp, jobs, ect :)

But there's also the Northern Islands in Limsa Lominsa, which are inaccessible right now, some upper area in Ul'dah that is inaccessible, and a few random barred off areas with no name.

A lot of people expected them at release.

A lot of people expected them at first version update.

A lot of people expected them by 1 year anniversary.

I don't think Ala Mhigo was destroyed so much as invaded and occupied.

Ala Mhigo was invaded by the Garleans, with it's citizens driven out. The Highlanders of the Hyur race who fled from Ala Mhigo are the ones we see around the current Eorzea, so I'll say that Ala Mhigo still exists, but under Garlean rule.

I don't expect new areas to open up until the expansions. After all, it is only the starting phase of the game. I think it's good already that we have two extra zones aside from the starter regions. If those unreleased zones were already in the game, it would likely be as empty as the ones we have right now, and that's not good. Better to fix what we have right now, burn down the Black Shroud, and add more content and landmarks around the existing regions. And if they do release new zones...I expect them to be at least be satisfactory content-wise, more so than the current zones, and aesthetically appealing as the current regions as well.

We already have quite the large region to transverse, be it copy-pasted or not. I haven't seen regions quite this big in other MMO's, especially the huge zones such as Coerthas and Thanalan. One zone such as this could probably equal 3 or 4 zones if you split it up into relatively sized portions. So I can't really say they haven't given us much to travel IF they didn't make it quite as bland in content and landmarks.

New zones will be welcome, but I relish that thought AFTER they fix up the current regions. If they fix the current ones up, we need not be vying for the new regions displayed on the Eorzean map. After all, I don't want everything to be given to me at once; having the entire Eorzea region available at launch is beyond optimistic and delusional. I want to experience the current regions' potential to grow, absorb the feel of the starter areas and the two regions outside of them. So the extra regions can stay where they are, being developed and redone to satisfy the customers, while the existing zones are expanded upon in order to captivate us.

I would really prefer 5 in-depth zones with decent content and landmarks rather than a whole hoard of unfinished and bland areas with reskinned mobs and nothing else to do except plow through. Fix the current game first; make what we currently have more enjoyable. That's when we're entitled to new zones in the form of expansions with even more content and storyline.

I would expect expansions to contain Garlean Empire or those other 2 continents of Hydaelyn. But I'm not asking how they will open these areas. I'm wondering if they even have plans and designs for these areas or will it take 1-2 years to make and implement them.

I am in intrigued how these "worlds" have one or two continents on them. Then BAM new continent that we never knew of. :)

But, I do enjoy the anticipation of getting new lands to explore when expansions are released.
