Does Leviathan Cheat?

Hey guys,

So tonight me and my friends have been farming Ex mode Leviathan, we are a good party and have been one shotting each run..

Then, in one fight, on the second Tidal Wave phase, with the shield up at the right time (and with more than enough charge) he wiped us.

Shellshocked and with someone saying theyve seen that bug before we go again.. we get to the same part, right at the end (which is annoying cos the first one has no problems) and it happens again.. its possible that we activated the shield too late the first time.. but two times in a row.. and that second time we DEFO did it right cos of course everyone was watching for it..

We decided it was bugged, left and rejoined and it didnt happen again..

anyone had this?

Most likely latency issues.

Just because the shield goes up on your screens, doesn't mean the server registers it as such.

The latency issues seem to only happen occasionally during instances though.

Same thing happens with Garuda EX shield from the Spiny Plume sometimes. It's definitely something to do with server lag.

i guess that would explain why it fixed when we left.. but the fact we all saw it was weird..

wasn't a rager party but someone woulda said something if they saw it go too late :/

Had this happen a couple times as well.

Starting to think it might be like Ifrit EX's enrage during the last nail phase.

Possibly DPS pushing too much before the 2nd tidal wave results in a phase change and the shield not proccing and getting hit for the same amount of damage 30k~ as the hard enrage after the third set of warrior adds spawn.

We tried slowing DPS at the part right after the 2nd spumes are killed until the button popped. Didn't happen again.

Seems like it happens more often when the DPS is high enough to skip dive phases or you clean up the 2nd spumes quick using Meteor.

Two things:

1. The shield needs to go up generously before Levi casts the ult. A good 3s or more is preferable. This is a common issue.

2. There is a rare bug where the last orb dying does not stop the drain on the converter. It will keep draining for another 20-30s, leaving you at maybe 15-18 charge by the time Levi does his ult. I suspect this is due to the orbs dying during dives or some other bug. It's pretty rare, but I watch for it and call for a tank LB if necessary.

this seems likely.. after farming so much we got faster and faster.. we were forcing phase jumps, we went from tooth to first orbs with no dive phase for instance

1 - was up well in time

2 - as far as i remember the bar was yellow meaning it was above 30..

dunno if it was a bug or not.. but as we were fine the whole night i just gotta think that

I actually filed a bug report of this, and it's apparently "working as intended".
It's another one of those stupid "do the fight our way or we will wipe you" mechanics, like in Ifrit Extreme. Put simply, your DPS were too good for the fight and pushed his phase. Which results in Leviathan going "lolno" and killing you no matter what.
My advice is to stop damaging Leviathan as soon as Mercy Stroke and Misery's End pop up, as he seems to hit his "NOPE" button around 17%.

As I put in my bug report, my group was able to do this in i90 with i95 weapons. This fight is going to be nigh impossible to do with this mechanic when people are going to be sat in i110+ Pulling away the finishing line as you reach it is not a good mechanic.

There are actually a couple of fights where over DPS can be a problem. Wiped in Titan EX once due to over DPS. Twintania and Raffelsia needs to control phase changes if not it could be messy.

We had to stop our Summoners from using Bane during the final nail phase of Ifrit Extreme because it would push him into the hard enrage.

I understand having to hold dps for phase switches and control, but something like Ifrit's hard enrage or apparently Leviathan just wiping your group on the shield are incredibly poor mechanics. Instead of things like the original Pharos Sirius, where rapid dps could make the fight harder, there is not warning that you are doing too well and is a huge slap in the face for a group that is executing the fight well.

If they are going to have a fight that is about controlling DPS, thats fine - Pharos Sirius was full of good examples of those mechanics. Holding for phase transitions is ok, but would make more sense if we could see the enemy's HP as a percentage, so that parsers are not needed. Wiping because your dps was too high through the entire fight with no warning is just plain infuriating and poor design.

Actually.. I've never personally encountered that. What's the Ifrit sudden hard enrage about? For me there were once we fought Ifrit EX with 3 BRDs and we DoT the hell out of every single nail and ended up like half of them exploded back-to-back (with probably time spare before he cast hellfire) and that resulted a wipe :rolleyes:

Pretty much the same as here. If Ifrit hits a certain % while the final nails are still up he will just wipe the party with a nails still up Hellfire. I'm assuming it's there to make sure you don't just ignore the last nail phase and just burn Ifrit down.

Can't stop DoTs already on Ifrit from ticking though so sometimes accidents happen when the DoTs push him below the threshold.

Don't think this is the same case as ifrit ex, my group had push our dps that Levi skip some of the dive phases, pretty much never dive while spawning the 2 adds, follow by the caster then the spumes. The worst thing that I have seen happen when pushing dps is having caster add spawn when Levi still diving, or Levi diving and spawning spumes at the same time, this causes some confusion to some people and they die since they wasn't expecting it.

The only time we died to shield is always when pressing too late.

As Vaer said, if Ifrit's health gets too low during nail phase, he just jumps right away and wipes your party. I've run into it a few times while in DF trying to unlock Leviathan. I was so frustrated the first time it happened because in no way did it feel like a fair wipe. We had everyone up, had downed just under half the nails, and had ~10 minutes left in the duty, and then even though we were following the mechanics, Ifrit decided to wipe us.

That's interesting.

Just to add on of cases - last night's T7 we had a weird occurrence. We know Curse Shriek comes after every 2 Cursed Voice. There was once Shriek was supposed to come, and the MT calls it. I was the BRD and thus was watching other things and then my muscle memory and instinct told me Shirek should be done by now and I asked the team why Renauld is still up? Can I kill it?

MT yells NO NO NO DON'T SHRIEK IS NOT UP! - I was like WAT?! Then immediately another Cursed Voice came which was the 3rd Cursed Voice in a row. After the healer re-petrified the same Renauld I was talking about, another Renauld spawned on the direct opposite end.. guess what.. I got the Shriek and we were like oh f**k lol.

We wiped because we didn't expect this and I couldn't pull the new Renauld because I have to move into position to Shriek and the team was stumped at this occurrence and no one pulls the new Renauld and it killed people. Anyways I think even if someone pulls, he will still die because he can't manuveur out due to impending Shriek.

One hell of a mess, which we believe it was due to hitting too hard on Melsuine and forcing her to skip certain stuff.

This game has quite some silly mechanics that punishes you for either under DPS or over DPS...

I've seen him cheat before. Bar was well over 30, shield was activated right after his jump but we still died. Only happened once.
