Yep. I mean it may be hard to implement but I love pet classes and every mmo usually has 1 class that summons something necromancer, summoner, beast master, whatever some pet class.
The .DAT files showed other class's like beastmaster , samuri , fencer , like in LL theres the gun guild but isent really accessable. So im sure when SE gets around to it , it will be added
Nuff said is right.
I would like to see this, Dragoon, and Hawker as branches of the DOL job tree.
If we get beastmaster, I want to be able to keep my pet. I really got tired of having to re-tame in the middle of a fight.
If you really want to capture the OCD spirit of everyone and get them addicted, just give the beastmaster and additional ability to catch and train monsters just like Pokemon. Then, let them battle other players, or other beastmasters' pets in the Uldah coliseum like in Dragon Quest 8.

Banemite i choose you!
All kidding aside i really would love to see a pet class. but lets get the current mess sorted first before we go adding in new things =P
Better yet, let the player customize and tweak the enemy AI and behavior patterns and keep a ranking to see who has the most wins. Let the player set aside a player-determined amount of money as a reward, and then set an entrance fee that other players can pay to fight the custom pet.
As an Archer/Ranger I feel I should have a pet and we should be able to charm any animal on the map period
No, never.
Beastmaster was just about the most poorly implemented job in FFXI, and it depends far too much on pet AI, which is always terrible in MMOs.
No gimp WARs with crab jugs, please.
If they can't balance it (and SE can't) they shouldn't implement it at all.
Pet classes are some of my favorites and Beastmaster is THE pet class. When they (hopefully) get implemented I hope that the pets we tame become a permanent pet that we can name.
I was actually hoping XIV would be the game that could really capitalize on pets, as most games do implement them poorly. When the game was being developed they really seemed to place a big emphasis on range and position. Perhaps I haven't seen much of an impact on positioning because party play is rare and I end up attacking directly from the front. If this actually did/does make a difference, having two units attack from different positions could give pet classes an advantage over other classes.
Bst was one of the most fun jobs I ever leveled, true they sorta fail in normal partys but get a few bst together to group up and it is a whole side of the game you never seen before. That and it unlocked the ability to solo on all jobs.
Killing kirin with 18 crabs chasing him and taking down everything in CoP by just sitting down and watching a rank 52 mob in a 40cap zone rip the boss a new one was the true sight of a bst's power. The class was easily the most overpowered class in the game in many many situations no DD could deal more dmg then my 75bst with a level 80+mob 2hred.
If pet classes are added I am hoping bst and smn are the 2 that are added.
Edit: forgot to put in there they added the ability to choose your Tp attacks with pets. So AI is not that bad with them towards the later years of the game's life.
I would love to have the Beastmaster job return in FF XIV in some way, shape or form. Improved or tweaked in some way to fit into the world of Eorzea. I also would like to know if the rumored Shepherd class shown in old alpha files is still planned to be implemented and be similar to Beastmaster.
Possible with Shepherd, I thought that would be a DoL though.
My idea behind the pet classes is that as someone else already said, the "summons" are already in the game. But in a state in which they are too close to the beastman.
In some early data mining someone brought up some infos about the Shephard DoL class and the "Herd" ability, which let him open discussion with the target. Maybe something like the Orator in FFT ?
All in all it would be nice to have 3 separate pet classes.
DoM : Summoner (classic conjuring, or as someone already stated, temporary evocations a la FF8)
DoL : Shepherd (You go out and tame wild animals, using them as mount/combat/transportaion, Ultima online anyone?)
DoH : Engineer (you can actually "Craft" various kinds of pet with different abilities and uses)
Well.. i need to put my mind at rest XD
Absolutely for sure. How can you release a MMO with no pet class nowadays? Thats unheard of lol.
I want my pets back!
Something like this would be fun. How would it work with combining the skills of that class though?
The pet could be a "character-binded" (and not class-specific) item. DoL / DoHs "builds/tame" them and can be transfered through characters. Every class should have a plus .. like : Shephard have a class-specific trait that double the exp a pet receives while fighting designating that class as the "trainer". The engineer could upgrade / repair the pet.
This can give designated DoL / DoH classes a way to participate (in some way) in combat, but will let other classes too to have a pet, but with some sort of combat-malus othewrise everyone could have a combat pet and basically this game turns into Rappelz and I don't what that to happen XD.
Combat classes can have a pet for aesthetics / transportation.
DoH / DoL classes can have a pet for the afore mentioned points + moving storage.
Shephard / Engineer can use pets for combat, and can manage them better then anyone. I don't know it may be far too confusing and risky to mix various element .. but .. dunno .. it could be funny
