I really don't understand crafting.

Hey. I tried leveling Weaving previously and ended up just crafting a whole ton of gear. I went down the list of what I can craft and just made one of each item so that way I could get the bonus exp. This took a lot of time and I was able to get to about level 15 or so (I forget). Then I remember hitting a brick wall needing gathering mats and didn't know what to do.

I tried looking up guides on what I'm doing wrong and etc. and all I see are people telling me to do leves. Well, I don't have anymore leves :x. I just did them with my DoW class and other classes and have 0. How am I supposed to level crafting normally? What is the best route? Is there a guide on what to craft out there that is good & updated for 2.2?

It sounds like you are doing it correctly. You can level each of the crafting classes to about 15 without leaving the guild. After that you need either stuff that can be gathered or made by the other crafting classes.
Leves are the best way to make quick xp without having to worry about finding too many various materials. You will get back 6 leves per day. You will also want to try to make hq items as they give twice the rewards for leves.
To better your ability to make hq items, you will probably want to level several crafting classes and pick up some of the cross-class skills.
There is likely going to be a demand for more low level gear with the influx of ps4 players, so you can also try just making lots of copies of some low level gear. It won't level you particularly fast but you can hopefully make money off of it.

For the gathering classes, again leves are the best way to go. :/ Without the leves, just go for the highest level stuff you can.
Fishing is pretty easy since you can stockpile the fish and then turn them in when you have the leves.
Botanist works well with weaver, culinarian, and carpenter.
Miner works well with armorer, blacksmith, goldsmith, and alchemist.

If you are in a grand company (around lv20 storyquest, I think) you can also craft stuff for the company. You can find the list what they need in the Timer window UI or with speaking with one in the GC headquarter.
They give good exp, GC seals and points for your GC achievements.
HQ items give you double rewards. The one with a yellow star give you also double reward. If you do one with a star as HQ it give you 4* the rewards (double + double).
But you can only craft 1 item each crafting class, then it vanish from the list after you give it to your GC.
After a specific time (7:00pm GMT in europe) the list get reseted and you have a new list.

So, in general I should level crafting via making one of every item when I don't have any leves available?

Me I found it easier to look at the list for an item that I could craft easily that has minimum number on ingredients and then make massive amounts of it. for weaver that was primarily the different base cloths / thread. However it should be noted that I did my gathering jobs to 50 first so I would go out and gather all my own materiels, then craft a huge chunk of items and repeat.

That's probably one of the faster ways to go about it... and hey, achievement progress!

Also, while you wait for leves to pop up, you can look at what items are required for them. Keep in mind you'll get different leves in town (the town where the guild is at) and the appropriate camp for the level range (At least one leve in town will lead you there). Craft the items ahead of time and keep them on hand.

Also, not sure if you've noticed yet, but leves regenerate over time. Your journal displays how many you have.

No, you wait for more leves, then level it with those.

You should be doing them in Bulk, while using food and a xp bonus manual from your GC. Hopefully with an FC buff also.

While waiting go farm the ingredients you will need.

And you should never use leves for DoW/DoM, unless your hitting the cap and don't want to craft/gather. There are plenty of ways to level them. Not so with craft/gather classes.

It pays to go ahead and level a gathering craft to match your crafting class. Carpenter and Weaver level with Botanist items; Goldsmith, Armorsmith, and Blacksmith with Mining items; Alchemist and culinarian don't match up cleanly to any particular gathering class.

Among other things, if you can handle the tedium of it, you can go out and gather, say, 200 copper and 100 zinc, along with 100 crystal shards, and turn them into 100 brass ingots, which will give you several levels worth of experience in both the gathering and the crafting class. You get more exp, by the bye, if you don't quicksynth... do your best to get a HQ result with each ingot.

It's a time-expensive, gil-cheap way to level up your gathering and crafting classes.

as for leves its better to wait til u start to unlock the triple leves for DoH classes really useful for fast leveling :3

for me personally i have mine at 99 available but i nvr use more then 20 at a time then i level or hunt tomes while waitin for them to cap again that way i always have stock :P

I found it way more cheaper and faster to do single leves most of the time. Alchemist is the best craft to do the triples.

just as an example lv 40 quest average in town :

- 1 quest single turn in xp gain = 41K (HQ 82K)
- 1 Quest triple turn in xp gain = 3*23K (HQ 138K)
- 1 Quest single turn in with travel to coerthas xp gain = 64K(HQ 128K)

Assuming you only return HQ. If you look for the same quantity of work

- 9 Objects for 9 leves : you gain 369K xp and about 5000gil
- 9 Objects for 1 leve : you gain 138K xp and about 1600gil
- 9 Objects for 9 leves : you gain 1152xp and about 7200gil (but with travel you probably spent around 2000gil)

i havent crafted for quite a while ( since b4 my last break lol) they nerfed the triple leves? seemed better rewards for them back then ;/

I have really dumb question. Why do it? Like just kind of want to know why the big goal is here.

just to name a few...

repair ur own gear
affix materia to ur equips urself lol <--- main reason i level crafters

dunno about other worlds but some people charge an insane amount just to affix materia in my world :(

i havent got 1 50 yet so not sure about the 50 crafting quests in mor dhona and what u need to do tho ;/

What's the goal in playing the game in general? Not trying to be snarky - this is a question that has a different answer for everyone.
Some people enjoy crafting. Some people find it useful for making gil or equipping their adventuring classes. Some people enjoy being able to help/supply others. Some people want to do everything possible in the game. Some people just want to add stuff to their FC house.

I've leveled crafting classes because I like having HQ, materia melded gear when I'm leveling. Then I leveled gathering classes so I didn't have to pay for mats. It really is that simple.

this.. i stopped cause had limited space since most crafting classes needs mats from all 3 gathering classes but now i have 2 extra retainers tryin to get the time to level them again :(

It's not really a nerf they adjusted in 2.1 patch and before the bonus for HQ returns was 200% now it is 100%.

Leveling crafting is too easy/fast anyway.
On the other side, there are not many useful things we can make, repairing is a tedious task and melding materia is only possible for crafted gear.
We have cheap NPC repair where you can repair all your gear at once without changing class 3-4 times and dungeon gear/tomestone gear/raid gear is equal to HQ crafted gear with the same ilvl if not melded.

Basically, crafting is more of a personal thing. If you like it, it adds another aspect to the game.
The only exceptions are Alchemy for medicine and Culinarian for food.
That's my opinion.

As for guides...why do people need a guide for everything?
You have a crafting log and a gathering log telling you what to make and where to go to get certain materials for your level.

Are you afraid to make a mistake? To do something uncommon?
Who cares!?
Try things for yourself. No guide beats personal experience.

You already said yourself that you craft the items in the list for the added bonus for 1st time and use your leve allowances for crafting.
You can use the new challenge log for another bonus each week.
There's nothing else you can do except grinding, although that's inefficient.

Of course the required materials for higher level crafting won't be sold by NPCs.
There's the AH and gathering classes for providing the necessary materials.

And if you need more info, there is a number of detailed databases available on the net.

u might wanna consider levelin all the gathering classes and quite a few crafting classes 2gther... most stuff u make needs items from other gatherin/craftin classes so can b expensive if u plan on buying them :P

Most fan sites have various tools to help you stay organized, but the best way to learn is by doing. Though, I'd say it's a good idea to level all your DoL/DoH together, for a few reasons:

1: Cross-class abilities. Mainly for DoH, you can use abilities from each class to make crafting high-quality items easier.

2: Making items for each other. Most items require ingredients from other crafts or gatherers, but the good news is that items are on a fairly clear level system for the most part. This means the wood your level 20 botanist gathers and the ore your level 20 miner gathers can be combined by a level 20 blacksmith and level 20 carpenter into a spear for your level 20 lancer.

3: Sharing gear. Up until level 50, all 3 gatherers use the same gear, and all 8 crafters use the same gear.

The marketboard is a whole game in itself. Somedays, I don't even change into a non crafting class, and just make gil all day. Its fun. Hard to explain how I guess....theres a satisfaction in reading the market, deciding when its good to sell a certain item, when its good to not sell a certain item etc, seeing your gil increase dramatically based on your decisions. The crafting itself is faceroll. I think when people say they "enjoy crafting" they just mean they enjoy playing the marketboard.

Although ultimately, gil is useless. But I do it anyways, so it must be fun? =D

honestly i enjoy crafting lol its fun :3 i nvr sell anything on market at all its tooo up and down in my world to make any kind of profit so i craft purely for a break from fate grinds etc xD

leves weren't really nerfed at all. You get the same total reward. Since while they reduced the HQ bonus, they increased the default payout.
