We could use a Preferred/Blocked player list for DF.

Just a simple idea after running a lot of Duty Finder dungeons.

I've run into both:

1.) Really, really great people that I would like to play with again, but will probably never get the chance to since they're from a different world.

2.) Terrible, terrible people I never want to see again.

It would be great if a Preferred/Blocked player list could be added.

Players on your preferred list would take priority over other players if you are both queuing at the same time and the required party slots are open.

Blocked players would never be matched with you again.

This would have the added benefit of introducing some actual ramifications for players being abusive in DF parties, which there seems to be a lot of recently.

Just a thought. :)

This would be a great QoL addition. Right now there is no incentive for people to not act like total garbage in DF. I've run into so many people that I would love to block but can't.

As positive the idea is, it would be very difficult to implement.

Imagine:

A - You
B - Player you liked (on your pref list)
C - Player you Blisted on your blist

It will be very difficult to make a system that will recognize and calculate all these variables. Imagine if you (A) and B queued at the same time and are on each others' pref list, C queued at the same time as well, but C is on the pref list of B but not you. Who will the system prefer and such. And that's the simplest of examples. Imagine a dungeon with 24 people, preferring and blisting each other. You'd never get a raid to form at all.

A different suggestion that might benefit with this positive way thinking regarding DF is the ability to re-queue as a group at the end of the instance run, assuming that you all liked playing together and have time for more!

It would be a logistical nightmare for the devs, but it could potentially change some people's attitudes in dungeons when they realize their queue times are huge due to being blocked from so many people's DF list.

Also agree this would be a fantastic idea, I've met some really friendly people in dungeons, but sadly also not so friendly
Doing DF low level roulette other day got ifrit, and healer would not stop going on about how we will fail because one person in the party was new and how they should get FC to boost them through content not expect strangers too..
I snapped back to which healer said they wouldn't heal me for defending the person.
We nearly wiped due to the new one not knowing about the nail but I politely explained it whilst trying to solo down, they then switched and helped kill.
I was honestly shocked by their attitude it was ifrit story not extreme, why shouldn't a player playing it for the first time be able to do it .
That was definate a case of I wish their was a DF blacklist so you can make sure never to team with them again and as pointed out might help in some peoples attitude if they realise being a douche will have long term effects in how quickly they get a run

The problem is that there are a lot of people with the same names as each other, so unless it has the extra function of checking players across all the servers, you'd be potentially blocking a lot of people who don't actually deserve it.

For example, they could allow for cross-world adding to your friend list and blacklist and simply make players on your friend list preferred and players on your blacklist blocked. There are already systems like this in place they could pull from, like XBox Live I believe.

This system would have to include World of origin.

Like you could have Bob McGee [Behemoth] on your Preferred list but Bob McGee [Cactuar] on your Block list.

It is very likely that the player's world of origin is already included in the logic for matching to begin with.

I think SE would first have to change the game so that it checks accounts - and not singular character names - before this would even be possible. A good idea, but I don't think SE would put forth the effort.

There is not much simple and elegant way to do this, the logistics is just complicated especially for larger raids where they need to check for all (24?) players to make sure no one is on anyone's blist. This would make some of the match up very difficult.

This is also very discouraging to new players, if they mess up on their first time, they get blisted.

The current system would already need a method to retrieve individual player data and character information to work. They would just have to re-write some code that handles the matchmaking system.

Even some fairly unknown games had at least the blacklisting function in their matchmaking. For example, Age of Empires Online had a matchmaking system that would prevent anyone on your Games for Windows Live blacklist from matching up with you.

I believe Fable 3 and other games using GfWL were required to do the same.

It -would- be some work to implement, but nothing out of the range of SE's coding ability.

I can't imagine that anyone except for the biggest jerks would blacklist a new player over a single mistake. That sounds like it'd actually be beneficial to both parties; the jerks would eventually have trouble finding parties if they persisted with that trigger-happy behavior, and the newer players would be free to party with more compassionate and understanding/supporting players.

Like I mentioned previously, it might be required to compromise and make people on your blacklist simply less likely to be matched up with you rather then not at all.

You're also kind of using the most extreme case (CT) to nay-say this idea. Even if it was only used for 4 or 8 member parties it would be beneficial.

I do like the idea. I'm not sure how it would be implemented, how it would be implemented or if it even could be implemented, but I do like the idea.

I see that someone already suggested an idea how to differentiate those from different worlds, it would also help in case you encounter those with the same names.

Not nay-saying the idea at all. You've got the mindset, kudos to you, but you are going about it the wrong way. You are completely ignoring the amount of effort it will take to develop such a system. And using CT as an example is a good way to test the idea, or even any large dungeon since it re-iterates the complexity of the whole notion. And implementing this system to only 4-8 man parties is a little bit unfair do you think? Since wanting to dodge undesirable players is more common in the larger raids, wouldn't they need this system there on a higher priority?

Instead of thinking ways to separate the community(good and the naughty), why not think of ways to converge them? To make them feel like a team. Re-work the whole mindset of being a jackass while in a party, so the overall level of being in a community increases.

You are using CT as a way to invalidate the idea without considering it on a basic level, you are going straight to the most extreme case.

Other games have had this feature, games with much lower budgets and much smaller teams. Why is there some assumption that it would be a massive undertaking for FFXIV's dev team? That's absolute nonsense. If the issue is that it might be too much work to be worth it, that's a valid concern, but the point of suggestions is to get the idea to the dev team. They are the only ones who know for a fact if it would be too much work for them to invest the development time in or not.

As for your final point, I personally find it extremely unrealistic. There are many people in the community who are 100% self-absorbed. Every system in FFXIV either supports or does nothing to mitigate selfish behavior. And this preferred/blacklist idea was simply a suggestion to help the current state of things.

Again, a lot of people including me, said that it was a good idea. Just hard to implement, more-so on a "baby-stage" mmo like FFXIV. People are giving you other alternatives as well but you know, got ignored as well.

How often do you actually run into the same guys twice via DF??

How did I ignore people giving me other alternatives? I already said it would probably require some amount of compromise in it's implementation. And I've read through every reply and replied to those I could add something to.

I have met the same person in DF before though, I assume it's a bit more likely too if you're doing 8 member runs or CT.

So yea in general we have an agreement, it's a good idea, hard to implement :)

Yeah, but as a side effect people who are not in groups or are don't find themselves connecting with other players would probably get alienated.

Really the preferred list thing would only effect those people who had each other on their list and were queuing at the same time into a party with slots open for their class/job. So really it would simply increase the chance you would see that other person again, not guarantee it.

If someone messes up on their first time, they might get on someone's blacklist. If it's a really huge messup, they could wind up on as many as three people's blacklists. There are thousands of people on a Data Center's worth of worlds. It would take a lot of mess ups before it has any sort of noticeable affect on the player who got blacklisted.
