Test server Please!

look, we all love that you guys are doing ... things. I just wish you were more careful about it. blasting off patches without any public trial is just asking for disaster and having to re-tweak your tweaks that you just released.

case in point: the monster sizes. don't get me wrong, I like the bigger "little" mobs, but those things are just a bit TOO big now. it's ridiculous how their size is way out of proportion to their power.

something like this is kinda irrelevant to the big picture, but it's still a minor annoyance in the swarm of other minor annoyances and at some time your just going to end up having to rescale them down anyway. this is just one example of many and while it's kinda like all the servers right now are test servers, your "testing" on peoples permanent characters and it's agitating the hell out of people.

at least thats my theory on why people get so up in arms over your changes ...

if you guys adopt this model:
"development -> test server for player feedback -> revision of content based on that feedback -> deployment to the live servers."

I guarantee that you will have a lot less unhappy players.

I second this motion.

I feel that the developers usually miss the opportunity to nip bugs before they go live more often that is common for MMOs. This will help immensely with QAing updates before they go live; so we don't get disappearing HP bars for mobs during Sidequests...

Theres a few other things after patches that tend to leave me wondering "Did they play this? How did they miss this??"

They talked about possible test servers but they don't want to prepare a world for say 3000 people and only a few hundred tests it. I believe that was why they released the Q&A type surveys.

I'm kinda surprised that only one person has made a thread so far asking for a test server. This would help a lot, considering that the game is still in beta, for all intents and purposes.

I don't think their problem would be too few people playing on the test server... I think at this point most people still playing would be trying to bust down the door getting into that server XD

i think it is save to say that ATM every server is a test server.

Right now patches are being pushed out too fast of each other to make use of a test server. I'd say once everything gets straightened out and 3 month gap patches become the norm, this would be a good idea.

I think we really need a test server to preview this new battle system, the job system, or the dungeons. I feel like Square Enix hasn't learned the lesson of not getting player feedback. Why rock the boat even further now? Pull out that wallet, give us a test server, and let the remaining players evaluate your work before you change a bunch of systems that no reviewer ever complained about.

Totally agree with this. We could help in every way possibile and better with test servers. :)

I tought everyone understand by now every single server is a test server right now. =P

It's not a test server if we don't get to test out the new stuff they have planned to make sure that it's any good.

They said they be adding test servers to test upcoming patch. FFXI is going to open up test servers o.o which i think it very late at this point but w/e ffxiv going to have it also.

we are all on test server you know? :/

Agree we need a test server, of course if SE do provide such a thing they need to have an in game bug report system as well, something which was sorely missing in alpha/beta testing.

Those who are like "lol what we're on is test server" oh so I you're testing out the new battle system? The new stats system? Companies? Dungeons? Please tell me how I can test this stuff cuse Besaid doesn't have it!

I fear that frustration pushes you to claim a test server

if we provided a team environment with the fruits of their work not finished (or construction) and buggy, it would be worse for them than what we had to exit the game because we would take this as a true version .
we're just impatient.

when the system is developed and run in the mechanisms of the game then yes at this point can be tested effectively without making conclusion (like that will happen on FFXI).
But now it's really not the time, the game has yet to prove a lot.

I think this is more that the player are impatient and want to control the dev team even more than with just the forum. There's no reason to do this, they already have their own testing team and the majority of the crowd here aren't exactly in it for the Quality Assurance. One ignored gripe with an implemented feature, and you can bet the offended player will be squealing all over the forum for support, causing even more headaches.

We're not going to get daily reports from them, no matter how much we ask.

It seems they want to open a test server once, they finish the new battle adjustments and can get back to a normal development pace.

It basically says that they can't mention anything about a test server right now, but they plan to implement one. They're too busy with the battle stuff, so they can't run it right now, but once they get their development back to a steady pace, they want to open a test server.


Good decision. I agree fully.

Well I for one wouldn't mind previewing the newest development changes while there is still time to tweak them. Once they are on the production servers (you're fooling yourself if you think what we have now is anything short of production) we are stuck with the changes.

I'm sure they have a good QA team, but commenting on whether or not developmental changes are a good idea, are well-conceived, or are pretty to the eyes is not part of a QA's job description. All they care about is if the actual changes reflect what they are told has changed. This is how it is with every QA team I have had the pleasure of dealing with. In a way, they need us to do what QA does not. That is, offer an end-user perspective on their ideas and planned changes. The surveys are good, but there are many different ways a survey's results can be implemented into the game. Some of which are good, and others which are not so good. Who better to say what would please the players than we who actually play the game?

Definitely want a test server.

Don't care for test servers but I will say that the mob sizes is stupid especially for the larger mobs, I don't know what made them do this but it looks ugly, even for the small mobs but especially for the large mobs that hardly even fit in some areas. Like Gnats in Nanawa for instance, like Piestes and toads in the caves near Haltalia...wtf is the point of giant mobs? at first I thought it had something to do with making targeting easier for mouse users but personally don't care because I don't use a mouse and I'm sure there's better alternatives if that was the case - then I'm thinking its to make them looks more "threatening" but honestly it just makes them look out of proportion and ugly at best...please change them back.

Both american and japanese players complained about fighting "citters" instead of mobs. TBH 99% of all ff game has huge over sized mobs. Including ffxi. Why complain now?

That's your answer to everything. Please please I beg of you stay clear of my posts. You never have anything else to say. But just to humor you, I didn't say I didn't want big mobs, but the mobs need to be appropriate size and make sense. The marmots were fine, they're supposed to be squirrel size anyway, they're most a pushover all across the world - whereas for example if I head into Mhor Dhona I would expect to see some giants. But just because FFXI had this or that I don't give a rats ass tbh with you. And please, get to R~30 then start talking, at least take a look at the entire damn game before commenting on things you haven't even seen. I've been in caves where giant Piestes go through the wall because they don't fit.

On topic of Test servers, only if they do it WoW style and only have it up to test certain content just before released and not have it like Aion, where it is up 24/7. Most ppl moved to the test server to play Aion cuz leveling was so fast. Kinda killed most of the game. Personally I do not seen a need for it minus people being impatient or that test servers tend to jack up leveling so players can try testing content. And chances are ppl will only complain making stuff take longer to be released since most ppl here seem to cry about anything and everything. (which is beyond childish at this point)

I'm just telling you what happen since you asked. No need to be a snot nosed brat over it. I saw the marmot size and though I thought it was cute. It was NO ff mob. ff mobs are big. critters are not mobs. Get the picture?

Also noted I said all final fantasy games are "huge" mobs. Sorry but I do not play games (as well as the japanese and other players) do not play games to kill critters. We play to kill evil monsters. Sorry but a tiny mouse/rat looking creature is no vile monster.

Oh really, FF mobs are huge? like the rabbits, goblins, beastmen, beetles, goats, funguars, crabs, dot dot dot in FFXI? like the only two giant mobs in FFXIII which included Behemoths and Turtles (and maybe a couple more outside bosses)? like the plethora of mobs in FFXII that were all smaller than you characters? the only giant mobs in FFXII were bosses. Just stop speaking, you weren't answering anything because I didn't ask anything...you were just instilling another one of your half thought opinions that don't hold any ground. Doesn't matter anyway I feel pathetic even arguing with you, but the fact still stands that you haven't seen anything of what I'm talking about, the marmots are nothing, I'll live with them being a little big, I'm talking about the huge mobs. Apology accepted. But what you meant to say is you don't play any game that isn't made by SE...you are the ideal customer if you ask me. Just close your eyes and cuff your ears and all is always well.

Mack you acting childish. And yes you did ask why they changed it. And that was yoshi's reply. You the only one fighting here. I'm just telling you what people said. FF games I played 7 8 9 10 10-2 11 12 was only 4% and only 13% of 13. All the monsters I saw were big in all those games. And by big since you seem to minunderstand the meaning. Is larger then its real life counter part. Like lady bugs. Those are big. By citters, I meant like from WoW with a tiny rabbits etc. No one enjoys fighting citters.

Honestly though. If you want to complain about the size of monsters in a video. Maybe you play games to much. I personally do not care. As long as killing them is enjoyable. To alot of players killing tiny monsters wasn't enjoyable.

You know what i find funny? your Sig you trying to tell ppl there childish but at the end saying all that in your sig is showing everyone what they said got to you and you the one being so childish. Matter how many char you play no one going to view your point. Not trying to be rude i just found that funny and pointless thing to do most ppl have you on blocklist to start with so who cares what you have to say in your sig move on with your life play ffxiv and don't let ppl get to you or just leave the forums.

Back on topic who the hell cares if you fighting a bug or a mob ass mob? if i saw a bug in real life the size of FFXIV i think i pop a sword and try to kill it also :)

@ zen What is childoish is assuming the worst of everyone. Twisting what they say or mean. Then fault them on it. Which a good % of what people did with my posts. I do not share the same pov as everyone. And wasn't really sharing MY pov. Was sharing comments made by yoshida. Who did comment about the increased mob sizes. Only children use a block/ignore/black list for petty reasons of difference in opinion. I don't block anyone as I understand forums bring the worst out of everyone. And actually if you look back on everyine people started with me first just because I didn't play, assuming my opinions are going to change. Which never happen. Also I haven't rerolled because of other people. I am prone to rerolling. On ffxi I had over 72 rerolled characters. I tend to change my mind alot.

For example your twisting the meaning pof my sig. I jump characters alot, so I tend to not have an up to date siggy. I just do not like people making comments. And using my sig to personally attack me. Or my post count.

Also I do have a right to point out a person is acting childish if they tell me to stop posting over a dissagreement. Yoshida did infact say alot of people complained over the mob sizes stating several japanese players said it was like fighting critters. It is one of the letters when he explained the change.
