can we talk about this?

so with this new patch, which I've decided should be re-titled: "Into the grind", a severe amount of grinding was put in this patch. totally cool with that. however... there are some sore points on it.

this isnt about atma rates, so please leave that out of this thread. they suck, we know it, just leave it be. if the giant thread about bad rates on atmas hasn't sparked their "we should change this" action, then your posting about it here certainly wont.

here are my current Gripes-
1. Mythology tomes.
these tomes have replaced Philosophy tomes as the "bottom rank" currency. that being said; why haven't the tomes per dungeon been raised in a commensurate amount? why are we still only receiving 50 mythology?

let me give you some food for thought.
the new Trials of the braves books cost 1500 tomes of mythology.
theres 9 books
that comes out to 13500 tomes of mythology
you can only gain a maximum of 50 mythology from any spammable dungeon.
the fastest run for mythology has been clocked at approximately 5 minutes.
that comes out to 270 runs
which equals a minimum of 31.5 hours of consecutive runs.

again, perfectly fine. but heres the fix.

Once you cap your soldiery tomes, and finish your daily, there is ZERO reason to run the remainder of the dungeon. Z E R O.

so this sceneario will be common place in the upcoming weeks:
Tank/healer joins a braflox pug/df.
Tank/healer helps group clear first two bosses.
tank/healer leaves group.
group cant find an inprogress tank/healer, because they only want mythologies for their weapons.

see the problem there?

2. Effort is not commensurate with the reward.
i'm looking at you Animus weapons. i know theyll get an Ilevel buff next patch, but still, for the sheer level of grind we have to put into these, there is NO reason they shouldnt reach the same potency as T9 weapons. completely stupid to make them not the best, and to offer completely viable sidegrades, that may even outclass the animus weapon in some cases.

there is zero reason to create your animus weapon. your leviathan weapon is an acceptable sidegrade that will be viable for clearing turn 9. as it stands the effort for animus weapons is not commensurate with the Rewards.

it takes (without counting atmafarming) right arround 80-100 total hours to complete an animus weapon. takes potentially 10minutes - 10 hours to farm a leviathan +1 weapon. see the problem there? Granted theyre getting buffed to I110 next patch, but they still wont be a mandatory thing for coil farming.

1. because philo's were harder to get in 2.0 but in 2.1 they made them alot easier to get.

so in 2.3 they will make them easier to get just like philo's

2 you explained that part. it's because it's getting a boost every major and small patch. 2.25 and 2.3 will give it a boost.

There was an idea going around that any excess Soldiery Tomes you obtain after the weekly cap of 450 should be converted to Mythology. I rather like this idea.

As Musashidon said,2.3 will be easier to farm myth, for now keep in mind myth can trade with ilvl 90 equipment so even they will increase at 2.3 maybe not as much as philo in 2.1

CT should still drop 200 Myth (previously philo) that would just be fair...

The Zodiac quest is supposed to be a long grind and give people something to do. If it was too easy to get Myth, people would complete the quest too quickly. Also, you're not taking into account that players will get roulette bonuses to Myth and that the beast tribes give Myth. I know, relying on these every day makes the Zodiac quest drag out so in the end, you have the decision FFXIV presents with many other types of content: you can do things the most time-efficient way (but have it take weeks to get the end result) or you can chase the end result now.

One way to illustrate this decision is in leveling up your character. To keep it simple, let's say that it took you 1 hour per level by dungeon/fate grinding to get to 50, that's 49 hours. Now let's say that you did roulette every day and gained a level in 30 minutes. You would only have to spend 24.5 hours but it would take a lot longer.

You're essentially paying extra of a resource to have what you want now. It's not just getting the Myth that works like this, it's also choosing to get Zodiac at all. It may take less time playing to get a Leviathan weapon, provided you know the fight, are geared enough, and have a group, but if you don't have those things going for you, you may actually have to wait longer.

I do agree with you about potential Brayflox HM problems though and think this could be easily resolved by either adding Myth at the end or reallocating the Myth from the 1st 2 bosses to the end. Keep in mind that without any adjustments, there is still the leave early penalty timer, you miss out on a chance for the baby opo drop (goes for 300k or more on my server), and you don't get gil or commendations. It may be that it's not that bad of a deal to stick it out another 3-5 min (although admittedly that does add up after 200+ runs...)

Other miscellaneous things I'd like to add are:

I don't think the Atma grind is that bad. It took me around 15-20 hours, longest Atma took 6 hours. It's about what I'd expect for getting a solid endgame weapon without having to beat any difficult content. Again, it's a trade-off. You're trading difficulty for time.

For many players, this is a no-brainer, since they can't even get past Titan EX (heck, I haven't even gotten past Titan EX and I know the fight like the back of my hand, never get hit by anything, etc. but finding another 7 people who can play perfectly is just a miserable experience in my opinion). Keep in mind, you can't just think of the time spent doing fights but also getting members, reforming after every ragequit, learning fights, etc.

Also, some people just like to be able to have some solo grind content. I think of the Zodiac quest as something purely optional and I think options are nice. Grinding Fates is the worst part but it also makes the Atma notification message really exciting and satisfying.

so you just want more myth and you only join dungeon just for soldiery?
also is the healer is you?just join for first 2 boss?why dont you make premade group and spam everytimes?

I can't speak for everyone however I can imagine a large amount of people, including myself, would mainly play on weekends meaning there will still be people capping soldiery tomes even at the end of the week. Not everyone rushes to cap as soon as it resets.

Daily High (50 + 30~50), Low (60), Trial (40 + 10~20), and Main Scenario (80 + 20) roulette = 290~320 Myth. Beastmen Dailies = 30-54 Myth, depending on current rank.

That's 350-374 Myth per day without repeating the same thing over and over. 4.01~5 days per book, 45 days for all 9, and no repetitive grinding of the same dungeon over and over.

2.25, and the next chunk of the zodiac weapon quest, should be approximately 45 days after 2.2. Hmm, it's almost like they planned it that way.


TL;DR: Myth drops are fine. You aren't supposed to run the single most efficient thing for 30+ hours to get your books purchased.

Whichever way SE would have decided to go with myth drop and cap would have lead to the same result:

High amount per Week >>> People immediately get their weapons, begin complaining the game lacks content and reasons to play.

Low amount per Week >>> People take a while to get their weapons, keep playing but complain it's taking forever.

In the end, they only had to decide what they wanted the playerbase to complain about, and obviously the chose the option that would keep those subscriptions going.

CT was previously 200 philo and 50 myth, 200 philo is worth 50 myth and CT is now dropping... 100 myth... PLUS 10 soldiery...
WP/AK used to drop 100 philo and 30 myth, now 30 myth and 10 soldiery...
CBM HM, HM HM and PS used to drop 100 philo and 50 myth, now 50 myth and 20 soldiery...
etc.

The rewards have been redistributed and in some cases increased.

You can currently easily get 340-365 myths per day by doing Duty Roulettes, and that's not even counting the soldiery tomes...
In 2.1 you could from Duty Roulette get... what...70-90? Or was it 80-100?
Even converting previous Duty Roulette's max possible philo tomes to myths, we get much more myths today...


Of course this doesn't include myths from beast tribe dailies and treasure hunt maps...
