I'm sure this has been addressed by everyone at some point. From what I've gathered the surplus system will slowly be done away with. So, for now just persevere.
Another related wording issue occurs anytime you get SP under fatigue.

In case you didn't spot the issue, the word 'skill' is used twice. Also, I think it would be clearer if the word 'surplus' was removed from the sentence altogether.
You earn reduced surplus [class] skill skill points due to fatigue.
Oh, perhaps it was intended to be read as [class skill] skill points, as in, these are the skill points for this class skill. Either way, it looks weird. Up to you guys if you want to change it or not, I guess. If the fatigue system is indeed getting scrapped, it's probably not worth changing.
Two words in a row is still proper grammar, there just needs to be a comma.
Quote:
You earn reduced surplus [class] skill, skill points due to fatigue.
While it is plausible grammar in general, it is not within this context.
This thread pleases me to no end. First, an articulate post that manages to bring up fatigue's sugarcoating without losing composure and just shouting, "COME ON, MAN, WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO FOOL!?" and then, immediately after, the redundancy of that shield issue. The clarified surplus messages seem to imply that we're not being docked points for playing too much, but that by playing as much as we do, we've lost access to a surplus of bonus SP we were granted for using a fresh class - a bonus we weren't exactly informed of, but that's neither here nor there.
Personally, I don't think the second "skill" should be there at all. These messages usually come labelled by the abstract noun form of the agent's craft; A thaumaturge is docked thaumaturgy skill points. A conjurer is docked conjury skill points. Why is a sentinel docked shield skill skill points? Personally, I'd dock them sentinel skill points, since I'm not sure "sentinelry" is a word - or maybe I'd dock them sentry skill points if I was confident that using etymological origins as abstract nouns was okay even if modern grammar defined them as different words. You know, whatever I was feeling that day.

You earn reduced surplus recognition points due to talking too much.
AW, COME ON, MAN. WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO FO-... >.> <.< >.>
All of your surplus message concerns will be addressed, in one way or another, in 1.18. Muahahaha! Muaha?
It was announced a long time ago in an interview that fatigue is being done away with come dungeons. So I'd say it's safe to assume that.
Yoshi-p said again that he just going to lower it down not take it away maybe he change his mind by 1.18 i remember him saying he going to take it off then he switch it to lower it down.
and what will happen to the surplus we have ? transfer it back to skill point >.> ?
They will abolish the surplus for good. Its at letter's schedule. But they will also "adjust" the SP (read "lower the SP". Adjust is never used in a positive way =P) so i'd assume we actually will have a fulltime rank1 surplus when its removed...over time people might just forget how high was the SP (just like they already did regarding how were local leves after the first SP balancing) prior adjustment.
I'm fine with it tho. It was one of the very few points that had annoyed me since beta so IMO its about time for surplus to begone! ^^
Thought they were gonna just rename it to rested xp only?
I hope not, if SE renames it again instead of removing it I may be forced to start murdering kittens. =/
(Please, think of the kittens!)
I'm really tired right now, both in general as well as specifically with SE for trying to spin fatigue in a positive light. Stop it. Seriously, just stop trying to make it seem like a good thing and get rid of it already.
Or the kittens get it, see?
Rested SP seems to be a bonus they give to people who haven't logged in for a while rather than taking away from everyone else like happens now. The idea is the same, to help casuals keep up but it works out better for the hardcore because instead of punishing you to help them, it just helps them. At least that's how I understand it will work.
Indeed. Rested XP is a very good system that just convert the tome you're offline into XP bonus. In Dragonica you receive 1% of TNL per hours offline. If they use similar system here, it would be like this: If you need 10000 to lv up and stayed 1hr offline, then the next 100 xp (1% of 10k) you receive will be doubled. Obviously the have a cap of 100% TNL so the max you can store is 100hrs of bonus. Also, there the bonus only happened for those that logged in cities, which makes sense...the person is supposed to only really rest well in thor home, only this way being able to fully revigotares their strenght and going out with "200%" energy. ^^
This system, IMO, beat surplus mechanic down as hard as Mike Tyson would in his golden times, because instead of penalty for those who can play too much, it offers bonus for those who can't being able to keep pace with the others.
