So many complaints and no compliments

About crafting.. honestly? ive been having a blast with crafting, it pisses me the fuck off sometimes yes.. but i never liked it in XI.. here im having a ball making stuff for ppl

I just made pairs of vintage thighboots for my entire LS, and making a lot more shoes for other ppl.. gloves that ppl dont have? done, belts that look great? done..

and im doing it with a touch of a button, thats pretty cool to me..

if it werent for FFXIV.. i probably would have never thought crafting to be fun
so besides all the BS with crafting, thank you SE, cuz im actually enjoying myself :)

If it weren't for FFXIV, I probably would have never thought crafting to be fun.

^ I feel the same way. Only took woodworking to level 21 in xi (Though it was all in one seating...a very very long seating) I soon quit after wards. In FFXIV the 1st class I did was Botany solely to supply carpenter, and it was/is a blast.

Ditto! I always hated FFXI craft system, but i find it very fun here. ^^

The fact that it pisses you the fuck off is a good indication it needs refinement. The actual crafting is very cool and I hope they don't change the mini game aspect of it, beats the crap out of one button mashing crafting most MMOs have. BUT the recipes and materials you need to make stuff is just plain stupid and makes me want to tear my kitty ears out. :o

And that is what is changing and I for one just can't wait.

If you actualy look hard at the people complaining it falls into 2 catagories

1) people who want to craft, but havent started yet and dont wanna do all the work those who are crafting now have had to do(seriously, alot of people who are doing it havent leveled a single craft past 10-20)
2) Their name is Peregrine, and they just hate crafters alltogether


again, seriously, 99% of the major complainers such as mister pissy pants up there going off with the foul language cuz thats a great way to get attention and prove his point, havent touched craftering cuz they dont wanna put the work into it
and if they get rid of the work, then itl be worth it to them, but work, yeah, they dont wanna do that



granted, alot of people who havent crafted dont have a problem with the system either, they just dont wanna craft :)

Yes, compared to FFXI, crafting in FFXIV have the best purpose - because you help other players.
Right now the economy is real weird. You hardly get any money for what you create and sell (as long it isn't r50 stuff). So the reason I do crafting is to help others to get the stuff they need.

One problem thou is the balance between the crafting jobs. Some will make you richer easier, while others will give you like nothing and also is harder to gain skillpoints, like Goldsmithing.

Did any of you ever even play FFXI?

"FFXIV's crafting is much simpler." FALSE. FFXI had you put in your ingredients then press enter. FFXIV has you put in your ingredients, confirm it three times, then press enter 5-10 times. "With the push of a button?" Seriously, is this button of yours the on switch for a crafting bot?

"FFXIV crafting lets you make stuff for people." So did FFXI's. I made lots of stuff for people in XI, and lots of people made stuff for me. It was a pretty big deal to get gear signed by your friends who made it. The only difference here is that FFXIV forces people to use crafted gear by lack of alternative.

I loved crafting in FFXI, but I didn't really get into it until late in my career there. I wasn't the first 100 goldsmith on my server: I was years late for that, but I still had all my subs maxed, a mog house elementally balanced so I only had to change one piece of furniture to switch from Moghancement: Goldsmithing to Fire to Desynthesis as needed. I love crafting, and I can very confidently say that FFXIV's crafting system is terrible.

"FFXIV crafting is fun! Unlike FFXI crafting..." Two words: Critical Break. Know what that is? Of course not, you never actually crafted in FFXI. But if you did craft, you'd know that in FFXI you keep some or all of your materials on a failed synth, except in the case of a critical break where you lost all your materials. In FFXIV, on a failed synth, you lose all your materials all the time. Yeah, sounds real fun.

FFXIV's system isn't all bad. I think the "always gain exp/sp when you craft" thing is much nicer than the "argh 57 synths and no skillup been stuck at 97.8 for weeks" thing, but replacing the random with a long grind is not an improvement. I like having more options for colors and stuff, even if it's poorly implemented. I like the idea of differing tools and being able to avoid failed synths by adjusting your approach. However, for all the good ideas and good intentions that S-E had for crafting, they were evidently not thought through and definitely poorly implemented.

S-E has a lot to learn from FFXI.

So, it seems, do you.

You find mashing the action button while watching tv or movies fun? Well...power to you man... I gave up on crafting after I reached woodworking 28....I dont have the time for it...nor do I want to become a zombie mashing the action button over and over again.

@ OP Well of course hardly anyone comments about the systems in place that are actually working, this goes for any game. If something is working perfectly, you don't notice it - and that's the point.

I think we can all agree that crafting is the system that needs the least attention considering the other issues present in the game.

the only thing we need is sped up animations, or perhaps something more instant after we choose the option for the synth
thats about as far as ill go with changing it, cuz as it, its just as fast if not faster to level it then ANY combat job

remember, you gain on average 20-30k sp per hour soloing a craft
can you do that with combat?


so its not really slow at all compared to combat, its just....solo

i'm satisfied with current crafting speed. Because if animations were faster/shorter we would have latency problems like we do with gathering, having to wait the game communicate with server.

A good way of fixing it, though, would be instead of receiving a RNG answer every time you pick a synthesis, having it at client side so we could have an option of turning animation off or, at least, receiving the RNG answers in batches so you would only communicate once, having all other computatios at client side. This also would work for gathering.

But i do prefer keeping the craft as it is...the safier the better...would be a shame they removing communication to speed-up the process and this ending with people hacking synths for 100% success, etc like they did in FFXI with ja recasts.
