So is this normal everyday thing?

I changed my grand company and I needed to do AV run for the quest for last rank, In the dungeon everyone seems fine and I noticed a lvl 48 (while everyone else was deleveled to 49) so I decided to NOT skip anything since I am a nice tank like that.

Anyways, here we are in the first room killing everything, then all the sudden a bard goes to the boss door and just chills there.

me "Hey, what are you doing?"

dps "Ah, just waiting for everyone at the boss, we already cleared the room"

me "hmm, there's a lvl 48 here, if I wanted to speed run this I would of done it by now"

dps "Are we going to kill every add in this dungeon?" bard keeps asking repeating like 6 times.

me "dude, if you're going to leave just leave"

dps "you know what I got better things to do than waste my time here" leaves then is instantly replaced by a dragoon. :)

what is peoples problem?

It's some mass problem with this new generation of gamers who want everything rushed and handed to them :/ I hope that fad dies off soon, so we can get back to real mmos

Aside from that though, I feel the Bard, even though I never say it to intentionally rush anyone or run ahead I do often think it. However that's just me when I can't find a myth farming group in PF.

I don't care to clear everything in AV either. I get you were helping to level the member that was lower but if you let the seedlings sprout further on in the dungeon, you get great xp and they die quick. Killing everything in the first room isn't going to make that much of a difference. And it's not like it's a change of scenery and exciting...and the chest has crap pot in it. But I'd not made a fuss. I'm more inclined to go with the flow and find amusing ways to pass the time my own way.

With that said...the bard sounds like an tool but I'm sure we all encounter a few of those daily while gaming. :D

But to the OP, I think this is definitely an everyday thing. Not just in a game but everywhere in real life. In society (I can only speak for American society however) we are constantly rushed to fulfill objectives so that we may maximize our daily productivity. And I think this rush is often shadowed in our virtual lives as well. We want to maximize our productivity in-game thus when slowing down or helping someone we tend to damage our ability to be as productive as possible in any given day. And well.. people don't like having to hurt themselves for the sake of someone else's gain.

Instead of it being a "fad" or a "generational" thing I believe it is more associated with our daily practices seeping into our gaming lives.

Or you know... I could just be over-exaggerating and blowing things out of proportions because I'm sleep deprived but unable to sleep. .___.

It's a common thing, people doing the roulette only for the tome bonus want to get it done as quickly as possible, they don't care for clearing the dungeon or getting all the exp on offer. It's a shame for those leveling jobs, especially DPS who have wait a while for the dungeon in the first place.

It's not just a low level dungeon thing either, Brayflox HM is quickly becoming a 15 minute speed run. It's the new WP and as more people get ilevel 100-110 gear it will just get faster. Many people try to treat low level dungeons the same way.

Skipping trash that is out of the way and not on or even near the path to your objective = NOT a speed run. Skipping optional trash is just being smart, especially in a dungeon like that where a lot of groups have issues with time to begin with.

Also, for the people who think the point of a dungeon is to kill everything in sight and to go looking for unnecessary fights:

Maybe you intention was good, but with a lvl 48 and 3 other 50, you were making a favour to the level 48 making the other 2 lvls 50 spend more time there than the necesary. Or, to said it plain, you were being nice to 1 guy and been mean to 2 guys. That's not nice of you! :D


And yeah, of course you can say "It's jsut a game", but them again you are imposing your way to them.


Not a great problem, of course, but doing that and think that you are nice cause you help the lower level making the other 2 guys do what you want it's a bit...weird. Level shoudn't matter, there's people behind all characters :P

You are exactly like that bard, imposing your way of do it, but with tank power (More important to finish the dungeon)

That's funny, because for awhile there on PF on my server, someone always had "First room AV farm, great xp, rinse repeat to 50." Aperently those people couldn't beat that first boss in there lol

Lol I think this to myself everytime someone joins a pt and ragequits after 1-2 wipes. They're on a mmo, sometimes on a weekend/late at night, what else do they really have to do?






Semi-unrelated, but those people who ragequit on a perfectly good pt, because of a single mistake. Especially now with echo and you had just gotten the buff when they drop... (not that it's needed, just saying it can make stuff easier on some people)

I can feel either way on this, depending on what class I am playing, what level, which dungeon and other factors.

In the right situation, I would prefer my team clear the whole dungeon for Exp purposes. If I am level 28 and in Haukke Mannor, then there's no reason not to clear everything. You are forced to kill about 95% of the enemies anyway.

In other cases, I just want the dungeon over as fast as possible. Toto-Rak for example is stupidly long, and you only need to kill about 50% of the enemies to reach the last boss. Clearing the whole thing can easily feel like a waste of everyone's time.

In the case described above, Aurum Vale is one of the least loved dungeons in the entire game. If you can get your team through the bosses at all, you are doing good. And if there's only one person in the group who is proper level for that dungeon, don't presume that you should clear the whole place unless that person asks nicely for it.

I happen to enjoy AV, and i also enjoy teaching people how to get through it without a hassle. Unfortunately, most people would prefer to ragequit at Coincounter rather than teach/learn the mechanics.

Which is hilarious, because there are no longer slugs in there.

The dungeon is a lvl 48 dungeon. So why wouldn't he cater to the lvl 48 guy? You want to do it quick, thats what PF is for. You go DF or roulette, help out the new guys. Thats what it is for, to help out the newer players, not just run through it to get your bonus.

Kinda have to agree with this. I would assume the lowbie wants exp until said person says they don't.
Some of the dissenting attitudes in this thread jerk me a bit, but everyone's got an opinion.

It might might also be because first room farm is pretty good exp very quickly and can be done over and over in party in less time than a full run, and get levels a lot faster.

I guess it's a depending on the people you end up with. I don't mind the following:

- Clearing every mob if someone has an advantage through that (for instance if I get downleveled and see everyone in this Tam-Tara is Lv25+ I won't do all the trash) if he asks politely (I've had random people pull groups all over the place shouting "NEED EXP!!!")

- Waiting for new people that watch Cutscenes

- Explaining Content

What I do have a problem with is
- if people are genuinely slowing down a run (like when I'm not tanking and a tank waits like 30s before each pull)
- people afking more than once and especially without notice
- people iddling around (for example I had a low level dungeon lately, for the funsies, and the healer was a SCH, didn't need to heal me even once, but also didn't ever use any dps-skill, just afking the dungeon and even following me via auto-follow... come on guys...)


So technically the OP should probably have asked if the low-level wanted to clear everything and if the group is fine with that etc.


On a different note I have to admit I'm not rushing too badly. If I egt asked to speedrun WP I'll do it, but I generally prefer talkative groups that go through a bit more laid back (not as in super-slow, but if there happens to be something funny you talk for a minute without someone flaming "PULL OMG!"^^)

You cannot have more than one leader it causes confusion. For better or worse the tank is the leader of the party and I do what the tank says. He/she's captain. I'm the private. It's military thinking but there is a reason the military gets things done fast. They have a chain of command that is not questioned. I apply it to gaming but that is just me. MMORPG's often feel like I'm in a war with civilian recruits in the ranks.

I dont see why he left. By the time the penalty for leaving expires, plus being a dps and waiting in roulette again he would have been done with AV assuming everything went smooth.

they busy and got job/wife/children thats why they need rush
And they prefer 30 minutes penalty than do abit long dungeon that can complete less than 30 minutes

It's normal in the same way that you bump into the occasional loot whoring elitist. Like road rage and angry post office clerks... you just start getting blind to them. Almost like stepping over really pissed off fire ants.

Just wanna mention, I too can go either way. I have a lot of playtime, and am in game or at title screen from after work until bedtime. With no afk-boot, now I can see the chat log I missed.

When I use the roulette's, I go WHM so the queue is fast, I have an expectation of the time-frame. I was main SMN, and now my WHM has surpassed it, and took my first Soldiery purchase.

I have things in real life, like after dinner, I cook a real meal. I stuff it in my face in front of the screen. But ya, I also have a son whom I have 50/50 after work on a weekday, and usually most of the weekends. So I don't often want to be tied down to a run longer for sake of being longer.

I use the roulette's bonuses to stay well equipped and enjoy what I pay for. If something is taking too long or is going to now; as my expectations are evidently wrong, then I will quit.


I explain mechanics, I am patient in my demeanor until you fall below the median of my experiences. I have over 250 commendations, never once as a tank. I think it justifies the way I play.
