I am wanting to try PvP. Any tips or recommendations for a first timer. I am using conjurer/white mage at the moment. Thank You:)
I'm a white mage too and I love the PvP in this game (except for long que times). Some tips I can give a new pvp white mage are:
1. Be ready to run the whole match. PvP is a lot different then PvE, no one will be able to protect you so you have to kite pretty much the whole time. If your opponents go after someone else, like the black mage, I recommend keeping your distance but try to help him/her at the same time.
2. When it comes to PvP actions, the two I recommend learning first are Attunement and Equanimity. I'm not sure which you should get first, I personally love Equanimity but I got yelled at for not having Attunement so you decide. Also eventually Purify is a must.
3. You probably want to create a new hotbar for pvp. Not only are you going to need quick access to the unique PvP Actions but your also going to want quicker access to moves you normally don't use much like Surecast. You may find that in PvP everything is usually happening very fast so macros like a Presence of Mind/Equanimity quick combo may also be something you want to think about.
4. The last tip I can give you is don't be disheartened if you lose a lot at first. The PvP in this game is like the PvP in any game, for example: the average person doesn't pick up a game like Call of Duty and is a phenomenal player right away. It takes time to build your character and to learn how to play, FFXIV is no different.
Well Good Luck and have fun. Hopefully this helps a little. :)
1) As a Whm you will be focus and die a lot (and be the cause of your team lost). Because you will start ungeared and unskilled, some people will kill you in less than 3s. Be prepared to this.
2) Survivability tools : sprint, control and positionning. Whm are really dependent of their control to survive (Sch are better at tanking damages). Healers can survive until limit break (and more) if you find the way to play them correctly.
3) Major treat you will have to face as Healer :
- Sleep : 30s/15s/7s. Totally gamebreaking in FF arena, you will have to find the best way to manage these phase when you and half of your team can be sleep.
- Burst machine : typically tank, you will have to find a way to survive to full buff tank stunning you and bursting you.
4) Queue : In solo you win more wolves mark/experiences but premade can be funnier and you can manage to take down more geared player. For the moment, queue are in a really bad state (PvP players stopped to play or are trying the new Pve), it's maybe not the best time to start PvP. Lvl 30 and 40 queue are easier to start with because the morale (pvp stat) is not taking into account in this mode (you can also twink your character for Lvl30/40 queue).
Thanks for the replies! I'm sure this will help me out alot!!! Thanks agian Gerard and Almaxia!
First you are never standing still. You should be mobile 90% of the time unless for some reason the DPS isn't all over you, if they are all ganging up on a BLM or Bard on your team then sleep sleep sleep sleep everything you can and CC Mark it. In order to get the heals off, you have to use the walls to your advantage, sprint and turn the corner as soon as you turn the corner, try and pop off some heals, then surecast, then heal again, if a DPS reaches you, use your knock back ability, heal again, surecast heal again... then start to run to turn the corner on another area of the wall.. heal again.. turn another corner heal again. Honestly it's rare you will just be able to free heal out in the open with out the use of turning. identify the tank and the other DPS you know are coming after you, wait for a tank/DPS to get within melee range, use your knock back, sleep, he will then purify, then you surecast/swiftcast sleep him again and you'll get him a 15 sec sleep on him, after that you are just kiting 1 DPS while you try to heal for 15 sec and as soon as you get a chance, knockback and sleep them too.. Make sure you make swiftcast/surecast macros that heal you, it's very difficult to have to surecast, then target yourself, then heal.. the time you take to do that, you're already getting interrupted. Finally and most importantly your PVP skills are what make all the difference, once you get equanimity III (20 second surecast!) and divine breath ( insta rez) and attunment ( 10 sec 90% dmg reduction) life gets ALOT easier.
For about the first oooh...20 matches...ignore all above advice, put your controller down during matches, and use the time befriending a drycleaner who will be willing to remove the 'rapeshoes' footprint from your healing cloak. No..NO I'm serious. The more you struggle before at least attunment..the more people like me are gonna enjoy you^^; Mean no offense whatsoever but GOD its something about fresh new healers..mMMmMmmm.. <3
Don't die.
Hah, jk. In all seriousness like Vaeria said, you are more than likely gonna get wrecked HARD. Best advice I can give is be patient, don't rage, and just keep going
People like you? You're possibly the absolute worst rank 30 bard anyone on the data center knows. Like, there a couple really bad rank 30 bards, but you're one of the few where it doesn't even seem like you're in Direwolf because you're literally THAT bad at PvP. Please stop posting here.Quote:

Well at least the Forum PVP is alive and well. XD
lolz. I registered just for that.
ilu Epi. And I couldn't transfer, too many frands here :(
Oh la la~ Such a passionate response Cali <3 I must've struck quite a nerve. And while I'd say the EXACT same words about you as a healer (considering the only match I remember being on teams with ya was a nighttime match where Lisa Summers pretty much steamrolled over ya) ..I suppose its that angry passion that makes pvp so enjoyable ^_~
Best tips I can give is use main stat potions, wards, and pvp food drops. I like to use HQ Strength potions for focus firing and man does it help.
If you've ever been on a team with me (and you have, it's certainly memorable), it's because I've been in solo queue. If I'm solo queued as healer against a rank 30 three man premade, I'm pretty much always going to get wrecked. I can survive for however long CDs allow me to, which is around 2 minutes against one of the literally two best premades on the data center (guess who the other premade belongs to). The fact that you don't understand any of this further proves your ignorance. Also, judging by your other posts here, it's pretty obvious you have next to no idea what you're talking about. Like literally no one will complain about having me on their team as BLM/SMN/WHM - you cannot say the same for yourself.
...try again. You were facerolled by a random team, not a lol-justifiable-threeman one as Cuban and Lisa had both been on mine multiple times that night, who weren't running together. The fact that MADE me remember you WAS that you got dropped so fast solo, as Lisa usually asks for the ranged dps to be targetted first while going for the healer.. That 'no one will complain about having me on their team' lines cute..as I've also heard instances where you've just given up and SAT there when i70s were on your team in 50s. I can understand your sudden defensiveness about my remarks to your fellow healer (which I stand by *shrug*) but in pointing a finger at me...your own record is hardly above reproach. I dunno...perhaps a little less depending on the zomg, best premade team on data center and learning to stand on your own two legs a little, no? Cuz judging by THAT showing ....you get dropped just like everyone else. >_>
fun thread.. let me grab my popcorn
