Philo mats need to go

Not completely, no. But they really have no business being on the loot tables of the three new dungeons (Lost City of Amdapor, Halatali HM, and Brayflox Longstop HM), bloating an already ridiculous spread of drops even further. They're incredibly cheap from the Grand Company Quartermasters already; that should be more than enough of a source for them. If you truly must put them in a dungeon somewhere, put them in the old dungeons.

Words cannot begin to describe the frustration of seeing nothing but crafting mats drop off every single boss in a run. I've even seen nothing but Cooking Sherry and Filtered Water in one run. It's giving me horrible flashbacks to TERA's crap loot tables. Not a good feeling. Please fix this, SE!

Items that have a net worth of 2500 seals > items that have a net worth of 805 seals.

Killing the last boss and seeing a filtered water drop is just depressing.

at least boost the drops for the new sets, that Shikaree's doublet is just so sexy T_T

I'm glad those mats drop. Once we have all the sets we want from dungeons, those will be the pieces you'll be wishing to get.

I guess I'm the minority. I love seeing these items drop so I don't have to purchase them on the marketboard or with the grand company seals. =)

I had nothing but pot and coke drop the entire dungeon once. I think this game's trying to tell me something.

I don't mind craft materials dropping from random chests, but the end boss and mini boss(s) should have gear.

Yea, I'm okay with the extra chests dropping crafting mats. I just don't think they're an appropriate "reward" for killing a boss. Cooking Sherry as our final boss reward? How wonderful. -_-;

I'm swimming in GC credits and can't seem to spend them faster than I get them (even when I purchase superfluous things like GC gear for alt classes), so not wanting to spend those on philo mats... well, I don't really see how that's an issue.

It wouldn't be so bad if Cooking Sherry was used in more than one recipe and it's a poor piece of food at that.

Eh, Mr. NPC still takes it all.

The main reason for running these dungeons is Mythology/Soldiery and they drop such a substantial amount of gil that with my spending habbits crafting and gathering can be put as a secondary means of income mostly.
These mats are just nice extras.

but most of the FFXIV 2.0 community is just hack and slash. The idiots don't have time or patience to craft and/or gather. Even the thought of selling drops on the markets is absurd. I'm sure they are also the people who undercut until everything becomes meaningless and unrewarding for legit players.

But in all honesty the market started up again and that stuff is selling again, so I welcome the drops. Don't mind them at all.

Did a Halatali HM the other day: 1st boss, cooking sherry. 2nd boss: cooking sherry x2. But some people think that's fine because of their GC "seal value" lol

Do you know what that stuff even sells for on the market board? 2 @#$%ING GIL. Less than it will sell to a vendor for. It's that useless of an item.

That would be great if you could still buy darklight from an NPC. By your logic then, since the mats cost 2500 seals but sell on the market board for roughly the same in gil, then darklight gear is only worth 800g!

I think the new coil should have a chance to drop a handful of gold pieces instead of armor, because you can get equivalent gear from an NPC for only a few hundred tomes.

I've been running the new dungeons like crazy – over 25 times at this point – and I have yet to see more than a small handful of gear drops from boss chests, and have only seen a single body piece from a last boss. I can appreciate the rarity of the new gear, but seriously, I feel like I'm going crazy trying to get that Fistfighter's Jackcoat.

Mostly what sucks though is that the price of the tome mats has absolutely plummeted, so they're pretty much worthless on my server. I've been vendoring any I get from dungeons because they don't sell for any more than that on the marketboard.

Crafting mats are perfectly fine for the additional chests, but boss chests should just be gear. Or gear + a crafting mat. But not just crafting mats, that's just stupid.

Used to actually sell okay then, like the philo mats, NPCs sold it and everyone had such a surplus that it just became insulting clutter.

Filtered Water, Cooking sherry, Pot, Coke...Holy crap I'm not running a dungeon, I'm running a middle aged housewife's life! D=

Dont forget u also get meth (tomes)!

Agreed bosses should drop gear. Buying the crafting mats with GC seals should be enough without throwing them at players that may not even have any crafting classes.

In the old 1.0 grade 5 dark matter were in boss chests as alternative to gear drop.

As a new 50 trying to gear up his Blm and actually needing the gear to get people off my back, I hate everyone who is for crafting drops in boss chests. Why? Because they seem to hate me too <,<

So? That's equally absurd (as previous posters have already declared).

There are plenty of side chests in these dungeons. Changing it so the boss chests only drop Darklight or the green ilvl 70 pieces would not impact people who want the crafting mats, especially as you can trade in anything you don't want for more seals. I've seriously capped my GC seals twice since the patch dropped without even trying. >_>;

Earning a total of 20 gil in the form of waters from a final dungeon boss is insulting. You get more killing a single trash mob.

They need to move the mats to the Alchemy chests instead (The ones that give X-pots etc). That, or make the mats a separate chest.

Soon enough Darklight will be no different then the i55 AK/WP gear that everyone passed on before. Then people will be begging for crafted mats.

Agree, it's ridiculous to put old philo mats in chests that drop after you killed a boss. Side chests are fine, but any of the philo mats is a poor reward for killing a boss.

(and given the fact you can turn in old pinks, greens, and blues at your GC now for seals, buying the philo mats with seals shouldn't even remotely be a problem)

Volume. 2500 x 9 x 5 x 8 = 900k seals for all mastery recipes.

This is also assuming you aren't using any seals on retainer ventures (1k for 5), which is by far the most efficient way to get those, or that you need to spend seals to rank up on a new character, or to buy GC furniture.

Every seal saved is worth something. Yes Filtered Water and Cooking Sherry are duds, but that doesn't go for most of the rest of them.

They could have at least put the crafting stuff in a side chest. Beating Diablos and the only thing that drops is voidsent blood when I could get one of the new green items is sad.

I doubt it. Darklight gear (except the ilevel 55 dl weapons of course) give you around 800 GC seals. 3 DL gear = 1 highlevel mat.

But in one you are right. Soon peopl would only do the dungeons for tomes and mats. DL gear only to turn them into seals and buy then with them mats that was not dropped (dl gear as tomes for crafting mats).

I quite like them, I spend most of my seals on venture coins so welcome the boss drops in dungeons, they should probably be a chest item and not a boss chest drop though.

I don't think they need to go, I just think they need to not be in the same loot pool as all the other shit.

Right now, some of the chests can drop one item from:
-Up to 8(?) different crafting materials
-Six sets of Darklight armor pieces and accessories (tank, healer, caster DPS, bard, monk, dragoon)
-Six sets of brand new level 70 armors many people are hunting for vanity

The chance for a particular item you're hunting for to drop is extremely low when compared to the fact that it takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to complete a run of the dungeon. I believe some of them are itemized this way (I think one chest in the middle of Brayflox HM only drops Darklight accessories?) but the last boss's chest seems to pick from a huge pool.

Please consider shifting the loot pools around such that one chest only drops Darklight, one only drops crafting materials, and one only drops the new i70 sets.
