What do you think it should be for tanks? Got 900 to spend. Im undecided
most of tanks i have seen, they all traded the chest piece first
when i get home im getting body first
Body then legs your 2 most costly.. then head hands feet.. then accesories.. thats my order for my Whm.. got body this week and in two more weeks ill do legs then every week after it will be 1 piece a week until complete
Most players get the body piece purely for cosmetic reasons. IMO the best upgrade would be one that gives the largest boost to your most vital secondary stat. For warriors this will likely be the pants.
For paladins this may be problematic because much of their accuracy is on their pants and the new sol pants do not have accuracy, and you may want to consider the body or other upgrades. The new tank body comes with 26 acc (29 when you upgrade it) and will help to offset the acc loss when you change out your pants. Anecdotal reports (and preliminary data) suggest that the acc cap for Coil 2 is somewhere between 491-500. Therefore it is important to keep your acc as high as possible while maximizing parry during your upgrade process.
For this reason it may be more beneficial to get some of the accessories first (375 sol ea). Two accessories will give +6 vit approximately the same as if you purchased the pants or the body. The downside to this is that you don't get the str gains you would see from purchasing the bigger piece, however many of the sol accessories have accuracy. The weather ring and bracelet give 17 acc each (not to mention the noct ring is BiS).
Overall I think the best solution would be to develop a preliminary best in slot list. One that places your accuracy around 493 and maximizes your parry, and focus on getting to accuracy cap first and the rest second. I have been working on a best in slot list for warrior in another thread feel free to take a look:

Also you may want to start following the thread regarding accuracy data in Coil 2:

TLDR; It depends on the job and what your goal is. Go with what gives the biggest increase to your secondary stat.
PS....TO HELL WITH THIS 1000 CHAR LIMIT
Body first for the VIT boost. It's also BiS for both tank jobs.
Going for Body, Legs and Belt at the first 3 pieces I get for my tank, not sure what I'm going to go for after that since the other "tank" gear have DPS stats.
get the shield, it doesn't need unidentify allagan tomestone, and when you win turn 7 with oil drop then wala, you get an i110 weapon in the first 2 weeks of ver 2.3
I got the shield first then I got the ring, but I got a t6 drop so I'm trying to farm king mog ex for the neck piece and start working on the weapon or body next. I've been lucky enough to get loot so I can take my time on gearing my paladin more effectively. If you don't raid, the body or the shield would be your best bet, then possibly the pants or ring.
In terms of Vitality and Strength, Head/Hands/Feet grants the highest primary stats per tomes spent.
Chest/Legs: 6 VIT & 5 STR for 820 Soldiery Tomes = 0.0134 Primary stat points per Tome
Head/Hands/Feet: 4 VIT & 3 STR for 495 Tomes = 0.0141
Waist: 3 VIT & 2 STR for 375 Tomes = 0.0133
Accessories: 3 VIT for 375 Tomes = 0.0080
Anyway... This is how I would spend Soldiery:
- Spend your Soldiery tomes based on the body piece you're least likely to upgrade to High Allagan. Head/Feet drop from T6. Legs drop from T7. Waist drops from T8. Chest and Hands drop from T8 or T9 (to be determined). Coordinate with the other tank in your static (if applicable) to decide which pieces you'll buy so you don't waste any Tomes or H.Allagan drops.
- Buy accessories if and only if you have an Oil of Time. Ring is the only one that can't be replaced by High Allagan, and does not drop from T6 or T7. This should probably be your first accessory purchase.
- Ignore these dumb "Best-in-Slot" lists that tell you to prioritize Parry over all other secondary stats. 50 Parry increases your overall damage mitigation by less than 1% and only against attacks that can be parried. The truth is all secondary stats suck except for Accuracy. Make sure your Accuracy is capped but don't be too far above the cap or else you're wasting stats, as shitty as they may be.
The pants are nice for the parry but I'm not sure if giving up 24 det for 24 crit is worth it. The chest (for warriors) is a decent upgrade and adds on to the current Parry and Accuracy that we already have. Plus you should be at 500 acc atleast for turn 6. I found myself missing at 497 acc. But both are good in the long run.
Btw the tank pants look like booty shorts with long socks, according to xivdb. Please confirm or screens would help. If this is true I'm pissed.
Anyone else find the stat boost from 90 to 100 to be very underwhelming? Only a few points that dont feel like it matters really. Sure it adds uo and its something.. but i was expecint at least a 1000 more hp from this gear upgrade
I find it kinda funny that so many people (not everyone, but a lot) are neglecting the fact that you can buy the shield straight away. My main class is MNK, and I got a ring for that first week, but this week I went ahead and got the shield. It has good stats, and looks awesome. 99.9% of the playerbase AROUND THE WORLD is buying their chest piece first, so I wanted to be different lol.
I got the gloves, I wanted accuracy so I went with them. I'll get an accessory with accuracy next. Everyone will get the chest and I like my glamour outfit so I can have the gloves and shoes with it and will prob do it to the chest when I get it. Idk if the chest is actually stronger than two other items but I don't like waiting and the gloves look cool
I went for the ring first since i got this item to upgrade it to 110 :3
Next thing will be the Chest i guess!
To bad i have to wait another 2weeks for it since i bought the DRG ring in the first week since i was about to play DRG in 2.2 to bad a tank quitted and i am back to tankin shit XD
Like them bards.. So I asked one "do you run Coil", his response "yes man, it's awesome", me: "what's your acc at now" him:"oh shii... it dropped man, around 428 w/o food" me: "aah...".
So yeh, if you're planning to do Coil, just go for your primary stats with the most accuracy. Chest piece is nice stat wise, but I'd glamour it right away...
I would stay away form the new tome shield as it is a Tower shield as I perfer Kite and buckler type shield over that. (currently rocking levi shield [buckler] atm and liking it so far ;D )
Ring so you can use that with the myth ring. Next i went belt, its cheap as an accessorry yet also gives armor, and drops late in coil. Might get the cheap gloves next, or chest while waiting on t6 drops. Depending on those drops i'll get sol helm or boots.
That should give me the fastest upgrades in armor and vit.
for mys scholar went for my chest part and will take the had next, more crit!!
For SCH I went pants, since I'm gearing for Crit, I had a lot of difficulty choosing the pants. There used to be a lot of different options, and if you wanted Crit you had to sacrifice a bit of Mind. Daystar pants were the perfect solution. Next I'll go for headgear probably, maybe the gloves. I'll have to look at it more carefully. I do want the chest but I'm going for stats more than anything.
I completely got carried away and forgot this is about tanks anyways.
