expand your horizons.

Hopefully this thread gets to many, many people. Let me start by saying I absolutely love the game and can't wait for more. That being said, I feel extremely limited. how about we expand weapons for classes? For example, a warrior can have a giant hammer, a bard could have a crossbow, gladiators could have dual swords. I love my warrior tank but am VERYtired of looking at just the axe. I know that with the glamour system you can change the appearance of stuff but its still an axe. I'm not talking about a warrior having a staff, but that giant hammer that the guy in the Preatorium has? Yea, i want that lol. Let's get this into the hands of square and hopefully we can make this happen

The problem with this idea is that the entire game is built around the current system. They would have to cast meteor on the realm all over again to create such changes. Plus I've never had a problem with this system. It makes each class/job more defined and unique compared to others. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of variety in weapon types right now. Just take a look at XI, the game started with very little jobs but over time the number of unique classes has grown dramatically. And since classes/jobs in XIV are tied to a specific weapon, you can bet there's gonna be plenty of new weapon types in the years to come.

Well PLD gets two different weapons, so seems fare the other classes get a second imo.

You mean like daggers? I guess that could be considered a 2nd weapon type.. But it's still essentially the same sword and board combo. Do they really have that much of a difference compared to swords atm? I've always felt that the difference was negligible, not enough to warrant calling it a new weapon type at the least.

As Kalimac has stated, the Armoury System is built around the fact that weapon type determines class - in fact the term 'class' is something of a misnomer, in that they're not really a class at all but a set of skills connected to the use of a type of weapon (hence why they're properly called 'Disciplines'). It's also the reason why there's no specific 'class' sections on this forum - they're based on the role they play in a party. Hence it's pretty impossible to give different weapon types to classes as it would completely destroy the whole concept.

Personally I think there's nothing wrong with the Armoury System - I would just like to see classes given more relevance in situations where it's better to not have a Job crystal connected.

Dagger still like a sword? or a crossbow still like a bow, or a second sword, kinda like a sword. big hammer, well i think that would still be similar to a big axe in a way. I don't believe it would be as hard as some lead on, to introduce different weapons for each class. Its just a new weapon, like the new ones we got. It wouldn't require some crazy programming to get them in. Just new models. They could past a hammer over a axe for example.

Id rather they eventually add an enforcer class that uses large blunt weapons like a hammer rather than allow us to change warrior's slashing weapon to blunt. That would be too op to mobs with varying resistances.


And to your other point:

GLA = 1 handed slashing with shield
WAR = 2 handed slashing

as long as the weapons fit these specifics, they can widely vary.

What I would like to see monks with ranged skill rotation. I do feel that we are at a disadvantage because everyone so far wants ranged for everything give monks ranged rotation and that would be cool.

monks could have like throwing stars or rope darts or something

WoW does this ... And it can be difficult to determine what a given players Class is when you look at it, because a Death Knight will look identical to a Retribution Paladin. Or hell, any Paladin or Warrior really. They basically all use the same weapons barring the Shield. Same deal with Magic classes. Even the Tier sets have 'reskin' versions in the raids instead of unique gear.

I was honestly surprised, and so far incredibly pleased, with the visual aspect of our classes/jobs. The Art Team has done a fantastic job of making sure the different Jobs are identifiable via gear. Not so much now with Glamours ... But default gear skins are all reasonably unique. The variety thus far has shocked me a bit.

Even if for the poor BLMSMN/WHM/SCH gear will sometimes be shared XD
