Atma drop rate possible analysis/question

So we all know that Atmas drop from all fates in specific areas of Eorzea. The drop rate is extremely low and is completely up to the RNG dice on whether you get a drop or not. At currently 5 atma obtained, I've noticed something that made me think. I've currently obtained all my atma from Boss Fates. While farming these atma, it was always within several boss fates that I would have one drop (I think the longest was dropped within 6 boss fates after starting in the area). It makes me think that just maybe the Boss Fates might have a slightly higher drop rate for these atma as compared to collection and multiple enemy fates. Can anyone else confirm or dismiss this? If they do have a slightly higher drop rate, even if its by like 2% only, I think it'd be interesting information to know.

Mmm i think i only got 2 atmas from "boss" fates. It's just random

im going to have to say that might not be the case. when i logged in yesterday and did a fate, it was a normal kill enemies fate, and i got the drop. so far, i havent gotten an atma drop from a boss fate except for lion.

Idk but I'm starting to get frustrated in outer la noscea where almost every fate in u'ghamaro mines is a boss fate. Been there for several hours with no drop.

I'm 9/12 on "Boss" FATEs and 7/9 of those solo (o.o ) Its just superstition though imho :3

At least you'll get a lot of fate items for your daily tribe quest :D. You won't need to do more fates...................... yay?

Lol that's what I was thinking. Of course I haven't gotten a fate beast tribe quest since the first day.

For me it's been 50-50. It's more of a luck of draw thing that there being any sort of advantage if you target particular fates best on their level or if they are boss fates.

The 3 inside aren't bad because you don't get that major set back due to level-sync. As a blm with my healer chocobo I can solo those boss fates within the time limit. Yet it doesn't really matter because I've been stuck on that Atma for 2 days now. Once I get back and keep at it I doubt my luck is gonna magically change so I have no idea how long I'm gonna be stuck to that zone.

I am pretty sure that it is completely random. I will say though, that if the changed it to go from dropping at the end of the fate to dropping from any possible mob in the fate things would probably be a lot less stressful on the playerbase.

One of the two I got was from a gathering fate. had to confiscate contraband from the rat people. My other was a mob fight gate where I had to kill the same named creatures while defending something.

In 3 days I've gotten 2 Atmas ; ;. Thursday/Friday I did about 20hrs total around 230 fates and I got one. Saturday I did around 100 fates and didn't get anything. Yesterday I logged in and the second fate I did dropped one. I did around another 100 or so fates and didn't see anything else.

They should have made it where we had to do 75-100 Fates per zone for one drop. This Could take months. What sucks the most we can't even Buy the books until we complete this part, So that could be a few more months right there (depending on ones play times).

But that would be a good idea. We can't have those. They should have at least used a pseudo-random distribution but, given the frequency of horirble drop testimonies, they didn't even do that :/

I have a feeling atma has a drop allowance as a lot of people seem to get atma within the first few fate in an area or end up grinding for hours and get nothing.

I'm at 3/12 atma now and all 3 came from NM fates and also within 5-20mins of entering that area. I've also spent hours in a single area and got nothing for it.
The strat i'm using now is to spend 30mins in an area and if nothing drops i change area. I'll see how it goes.

Yeah, I do this kind of thing, too. Kind of a strategy people use for slot machines in casinos, right? If you don't get your payout, go somewhere else and come back later. If nothing else, at least you get a change of scenery.

I heard a couple things people were claiming in game, too. They claim that a.) you don't need to get gold in a FATE to have a chance for atma to drop, and b.) someone claims that they ran out of the range of the FATE before it was completed to head to another one (deactivating their level sync) and when the FATE ended they got an error saying they couldn't get the item because their level was too high.

I don't know if either of those are true. I tend to think they aren't.

Just thought I'd do an update.. spent 50mins in central thanalan and got nothing, went to western thanalan and got atma on the 3rd fate so I'd highly recommend not grinding for too long in a single zone.

I've noticed no pattern in the 7 atma I've gotten so far. I've got two of the same and each came from a different fate in the zone.

I can personally confirm that you do not have to be in range of the fate to receive the atma. One of the three I have so far (it was in morbol drydocks in la noscea) I got by taking a fate to 80% and then running to another fate to start that one.

I'm not currently farming atmas, just joinning a FATE in case I run into one. I got Atma of the Lion from bombs FATE near 789th Order camp. RNG is RNG, I guess.

I highly doubt there's some secret the devs are hiding as to the mechanics of the drops. This isn't FFXI, where you're told nothing and are expected to be okay with that.

Has anyone seen more than one person get an atma from completing a fate? My thinking is that there is a certain percent chance it will drop after the fate is completed then only awards it to 1 person who completed. If that's the case then your odds drop drastically in prime time when there a 100 people doing a fate as opposed to middle of the night early morning when there may only be a handful of players to compete with. Maybe the people who got real lucky were doing it when there were less people.

I've completed entire FATEs by myself and not once did they drop an atma.

To answer the question, yes, I've seen multiple people get an atma from a single FATE.

I got almost all my Atma's from killing adds FATEs, and I got all 12.

It's just pure luck.Someone in my FC dropped all of them in just 1 day.Someone in one of my atma farming grouped did drop only 2 in 2 days.
I consider myself lucky since i got all of them in 4 days(5hours/day farming)

Probably just coincidence, because some people have gained the same Atma crystal multiple times in the same area within one hour, and others from other zones shortly after.

I'm pretty sure by now that it's a flat percentile chance on every FATE, for instance 5%. If you're unlucky, you can do FATEs for 20 hours straight and the RNG never rolls 95 or higher for you, so you never get any. While someone else just gets lucky rolls with the RNG and gets a lot quickly. I'm just making these numbers up, but a 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 chance of any FATE giving you an Atma crystal might account for the luck (or bad luck) people are getting with this system.

you do realize that there is no such thing as a RNG as u cant program a computer to be random

I have 6 atmas so far.

Got all of them using Party Finder.

First one was a pain and took like 4 hours (2h at one day + 2h on the next day).
2nd one took like 1 hour and a half, all the others less than 20 minutes.

I've seen that healers that join a fate party late and spam Succor/Medica (even when there is absolutely no need to) seem to get Atmas real quick and leave the party.
Haven't tried that though with my WHM yet.

I've noticed that on really low level fates, where DPS can one or two shot pretty much everything, it's usually the DPS that wins the atma and leaves the party.
(As a tank I can barely damage or aggro mobs, they are gone way too fast. I'm on PS3 btw)

With Warrior, I got 4 of my atmas on boss fights (with or without adds) or strong-ish fate mobs.


I used tanks buffs even when there is no need to, flashed and overpowered the hell out of everything till I'm out of TP and MP and focused on killing the few regular mobs that are NOT part of the fate that I AoE aggroed, instead of focusing on fate mobs that the DPS are smashing.
It may be a coincidence, but it worked for me 4 times now and it happened on the 2nd / 3rd / 4th fate of the area in less than 20 minutes and I could leave the PF party >D

My experience tells me that there is some kind of anti farming mechanism. You are more likely to get a drop within a few fates than spending hours grinding. I think leaving a zone if you aren't getting anything and trying elsewhere or doing something else and return is the best way.
