If you read the page you link to, the second sentence is: During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will be unavailable. That means that during that time period, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be unavailable.

You must be new to MMO's, the answer to your question is in the link you provided.

Yes, the game will literally be down for 25+ hours. Just make plans to do something Wednesday! :)

So...Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be unavailable? :P But yeah, every maintenance they do, especially patch days, they take the servers offline to implement new content and various changes.

With any luck the maintenance will wind up shorter than that but yes the game will be offline for close to if not a full 25 hrs.

And you probably want to do something Thursday AM and Early PM because when 2.1 was implemented at the last possible minute they extended maintenance.

Actually, you should expect it to take lnger than 25h, it always happens.

2.1 is all we have to go on as precedent for major patches and yes that one ran a bit long. However, the precedent for patches in general is to wind up SHORTER than the posted time. The 2.1 major patch was an exception.

Normally SE is pretty quick with patches but 2.1 and 2.2 both involve hardware changes. That always takes longer.

Better a longer maintenance then having to constantly bring servers down because they did insufficient testing. Like how Blizzard did it constantly with World of Warcraft.

I prefer the meticulous method of Square Enix.

I actually don't mind the way SE usually handles maintenance, but I do think it's funny to suggest that the servers aren't going to go down a handful of times within the few days/ week following this update. Maybe they'll surprise me, but I'm betting on sporadic 1-4 hour emergency maintenances.

Actually, if you were around for patch 2.1, you will remember that WASN'T the case and everyone was pleasantly surprised that it went so smoothly. It took a little longer than 24 hours for the servers to come back up, but when they did there wasn't any need for emergency maintenance. Not sure what you were trying to achieve with your comment, but if it was to look like a moron then congrats.

Indeed 2.1 had little to no issues and let's be honest, SE might screw up sometimes but they at least apologize.
I can remember clearly how some other MMOs handled server problems etc, they let it be for weeks...

Agreed. BUT, 2.2 is also changing instance infrastructure. Expect delays and additional maintenance.
