Please rename "Tomes of Soldiery"

As far as I can tell, nobody has broached this subject here. Please, while there is still time (is there still time?), change this to Tomes of Polemology.

Ugh, first of all Soldiery is just, blegh. Its a pretty...ok? Translation, but its a silly word in context.

Even just calling them Tomes of War would suffice but actually Polemology would be very appropriate.

Final edit: Even Tomes of Chronology as that reddit post suggested would sound less goofy. Since the translation from the Japanese is the study of war, or the history of war.

I heard Tomes of Theology being thrown around before. You know, since we're throwing up ideas for possible names that most likely won't be implemented and stuff..

I think players are just being nitpicky because they can....

first glamours bother the player base, and now Solidery?


Why dont we just call everything BOB from now on...?

While I don't necessarily disagree, I do have to say that these forums aren't a two headed dragon trying to bite their own knob off. Individuals will disagree on various things, not all of the same things. I personally find Glamours to be a sufficient translation that coincided with previous translations all the way back to 1.0

But I also think Soldiery is stupid.

"Polemology" follows the stylistics of the other tomes better, I think.

Now post about why they are calling it patch 2.2, why cant they just number it 22??? Whats the point having a period there? Devs please rename it.

There is nothing wrong with the name stop nitpicking. Polemology sounds like a tome we'd collect for the new stripper/hooker class

They should call them tomb tomes so finally everybody is right no matter how they call them.

No, this is wrong. It should be called "Yoshida points" as mentioned in the last live letter.

I'm a fan of awesome, and "soldiery" is less awesome than "polemology". Plus, when will they ever get another chance to use that word?!

The heck does Polemology even MEAN!? The study of Poles? At least with "Tome of Soldiery" you know what information it's apparently supposed to hold.

I was thinking it would have been something like Allagan Tomestone of Chronology or Allagan Tomestone of Strategy, but Soldiery?

Meh, with a name like that we might as well call them Allagan Tomestones of Newnessthatwillberemovedfromthegameeventuallyjustlikephilostones.

I find it funny how people have issues with the soldiery name, and propose a different name in stead, yet no one ever says "if they were just gonna change what gets bought with what, then wtf was the point of removing philo and making a new tome? why not just do what they were planning on doing with the gear, and leave the tome stones names alone?".

Screw it... just name all the Tomes as "Tomes of Pornography". There everyone is happy now.

Imagine if you created something, a game or whatever and everything you create you get people moaning about wanting it changed! If i was the developer of this game i'd be a sad panda having to see all these pointless threads!

It's a close enough translation of the original and it doesn't have people reaching for a dictionary.

For those who wonder why I'm so scrupulous about naming conventions and other minutiae, please understand that I'm being fanboyish. I want to play this game for over a decade.

This is precisely the argument that i was going to present. Well, that, and that there will very likely be more tomestones to come, so those wanting a wholly different name altogether should wait their turn for their favored tome type to come up.

Well.
"Soldiery" as defined by the online version of the merriam-webster dictonary, which I think is a reputable source, is "The profession or techinique of soldiering" which means "the military profession" so it fits perfectly. It's just not as weird as some people wanted it to be.

This the team that was aware that "Lustrate" is a literal military term in latin (which means 'to review'), have some faith in them.

It would be nice if they would start naming things with words that rolled off the tongue easily. Honestly though. This is kind of Square's MO.
