I can't speak for everyone or every server obviously but lately on Excalibur I've been getting a lot of RMT tells from for the most part regular named characters... What I'm trying to say is the names are not some random string of letters like "wefklwer flkjer" or something like that its an actual character name.
This could mean one of a few things:
There was another security breach somewhere, somehow, and they have gotten some account names, passwords, blah blah and are trying them out. (this could be a third party site, don't ever use your SE account name or password anywhere else)
They have started actually putting some thought into character names.
They are using old chars that were hacked a while ago.
-Last two are unlikely because I've just started getting tells from regular named chars recently...
Might be time to update your passwords or consider getting a security token. Its funny how this started around the time SE put a security awareness on the login notes.

They are probably either: from people with real account visiting gil seller site and get infected with virus so the gil seller can get the account ino or gil seller make a random name generator for their newly created char.

I've noticed this too, but I've also noticed that the /tells they send are well worded and give the impression they were written by someone who's first language is english. Maybe its a new gil selling company all together thats trying to blitz the market.

Pretty sure they're just using the name generator in the character creation screen. I get tells from some very normal sound names with faceroll added to them. Vernonasdf Smyth, etc.

They are name generator and hacked/sold accounts I can tell you for sure. I saw someone I used to know sending me an RMT tell before :/
