Retainers New abilities!!

At 4:15 into the video it shows a bit about the retainers the first thing of notice is that it seems to have a set number of leves/ventures at the top.

Secondly, at the bottom is the ability to check your retainers gear and abilities.

Third is the option to reset your retainers level .... the retainers class and level ... pugilist lvl 50.

When the retainer is assigned a venture there are three options, hunting, field exploration and quick exploration.

I am wondering is it possible that you have to level your retainers upto a specific level to do hunting logs as when he is sent out to hunt the apkula eggs it shows various level ranges and also shows an experience gained top right corner.

Whats everyones ideas on this and are you looking forward to an auto farmer, hunter, gatherer??

I see this as kind of a "Train your fighter!" kinda thing. Like in Yakuza.
Kinda like a simulation mini-game.

And i love that kinda stuff O: So really looking forward to it.
What i'd love is, if we can train them to learn certain behaviour / skills and assign them to kinda like tournaments or so.
Put them on a diet plan, work out plan etc. to gain additional stats.
Something along those lines.

I saw this and I was like, "Damn, crafters are going to love this new system!"

Still enjoyable, though! It'll be nice seeing my retainers, Scritchy and Mosshead, doing some fun things out in the world!

I'm looking forward to the hunter/gatherer. I may have Lvl 50 BTN but I'm lazy and occasionally need to gather quite a multitude of items so having the retainer help would be a pleasure.

Hunter because I hate having to compete with 5+ other people and bots for one spawn (total exaggeration but you get my point)

There was mention in beta on one of the early live letters that at some point you will be able to take your chocobo into battle with you in dungeons. Maybe with the apparent diversity of jobs etc that retainers appear to have and the ability to level them like a normal player with current jobs ( pugilist as shown lvl 50) as well as gear them and tamper with their attributes as shown in video tab. Maybe it will be their plan to have our retainers join us in dungeon battles instead of chocobo's!!!! This would be quite interesting and seems a lot more viable with what appears in the video.

i will put my slav....errhhmm retainers.... to farm stuff for me ^^

One will hunt for me and the other will deliver exotic materials.

I'd do it myself but...I fall asleep while farming.

Wonder if we'll be able to take our retainers as adventuring fellows after levelling them up through ventures.

I was thinking the same thing. For the most part it seems that only rare items dropped from treasure maps will yield gil on the market, and some occational other items that stack.
Since crafters are the only people who really benefit from gathereres, and the crafters often double with going gatherer as well, selling mats on the market isn't always beneficial. As much as I love the sound of this new feature and can see it being a lot of fun, I worry that it could hurt the economy even more...?

I was thinking along the lines....

What if we send our Retainers out.... And they never returned!

Retainer rights have gone a long way since the dark old days where hundreds of thousands of them were ammassed in the same, dark, unhealthy market ward, forced to work day and night with less than 1 square meter of personal place, with complete disregard for hygiene and psychological balance.

Some of them even forgot what the sky looked like.

Thats sort of...no,its pretty much the same System which was implemented in SWTOR. Your Companions could fight with you and gather Mats or Craft Items/Armor/Weapons etc. (each Companion could learn only one Craft or Gathering Job though). Was pretty neat to be honest.

It will. It gives people absolutely no reason to buy from the market if their 3 retainers can farm things like snurble tuft, flax, diremite web, electrum ore..etc. I don't think they'll be able to get unspoiled node items but that just means instead of farming those other items, your time can be invested in clusters/crawler cocoons/etc. Materia isn't exactly something people readily invest into because everyone knows Dungeon Gear > Crafted and it's not going to change, toss in ilvl requirements and it doesn't matter if your gryphonskin ring is penta-melded and ACTUALLY better than a garuda ring, if you don't meet the ilvl requirement you don't get in. People are already grinding the tomestones that the gear requires..and vanity reasons still won't produce much buying power.

Lazy people will be lazy. Retainers will take time to gather mats, and it takes a good 2-3 stacks worth of mats to AFK SB a crafting set. I'm pretty sure people with the "I don't have time to wait for your sh*t" mentality will still buy mats. The only thing that'll maybe go down is Apkullu eggs.

Depending on the fee and how much a retainer returns with, it might be more cost efficient to stick with the market boards and gathering items yourself.

On a side note, I'm pretty sure that while retainers will be away (and maybe won't be able to be recalled) we won't be able to sell stuff on the market, maybe we won't even be able to access our retainer's inventory. This would mean we wouldn't just be able to send them away on a whim.

i guess depends as well if later on they allow the retainer to battle in dungeons with you instead of the previously planned chocobo doing dungeons with players. It would be worth the investment to train them in specific jobs ( tank, white mage )

I think this will actually help the economy. Less supply on the market boards while a majority of players are sending out retainers on ventures means the same demand for items at an increased price.

when i think retainer doing stuff for you I think of slave labor.

Most likely no. Considering they can only gather a set amount from what I'm hearing and knowing SE there will be a large cool down timer on reuse.

So from reading that you have to pay your retainer to go gather for you. It better be dirt cheap or else it won't be worth it because almost everything on the market board already sells for practically nothing. Better off just buying stuff than paying your retainer to go get it.

I hope so. I'd also like glamour prisms to affect gear given to retainers. Would make for some interesting outfits. If they can follow me into combat even better.

You remember the thing with chocobo leveling?
I hope once we choosen the job for retainer it is not permanent.

This reminds me of Grand Fantasia and their sprite system.

there was something similar to this in everquest 2 after you got to a certain level on your character in gathering or crafting you would be able to do a quest and send out a packmule or goblin pet to gather materials for you. At the beginning at lower level could only send it out like once a day and later on you could then send it out every 4 hours or something like that.

I am expecting exactly this same type of system! Except of course for the fighting part. Our Chocobos have the battle companion part covered.

someone mentioned 3 retainers???? Is this with the new patch? an extra retainer?

But we would need a 3rd retainer as storage for all the vanity gear collections. It would be also no problem if the 3rd retainer have no sell slots. Only the storage should be enough.
