Skipping Darklight?

Pretty straightforward question here. I've noticed that there's a decent amount of i70 gear on the market board that seems to be pretty costly. My question is if I were to buy the regular i70 gear instead of spending time getting darklight, will it be okay for me to go straight to farming for i90 with that?

Or is having darklight gear worth the extra time?

I ask because I'd like to spend the time between gathering tomes of mythos leveling other classes

Right now, with 2.2 dropping in two weeks, I'd stick with farming up some Darklight. You'll want that gil, if you have it, to potentially purchase the new crafted gear.

Crafted i70 gear is about equal to Darklight if it doesn't have any materia on it, and with even normal melds it tends to be better. For what it's worth, most of the crafted sets look way better than Darklight so that might be worth the price to you with the vanity system coming soon.

lol how can you even consider those ilvl 70 crafted gears? They are sooo expensive and soo not worth it.

I would personally go for darklight o: it's easy to get. I spent about 2 hours in the day doing duty roulette low level and main scenario till i got DL in only like 2 weeks! You get 100 philo from low level, 200 philo from main scenario and an additional 100 philo from winning a main scenario~ So if you have a lot of time you can do that and things like Crystal Tower for 200 philo tomes or hard mode dungeons for the 50 or so philo tomes? If you're worried DL might not be good enough, it's more than good enough for most current content! I've been using DL for Crystal Tower and hard mode dungeons on my Dragoon for over a month :3 I would recommend that to save your gil for other things~

Edit: Oh, Sessurea just reminded me. You can do things like Crystal Tower and Wanderer's Palace for both philo AND myth tomes at the same time if you choose too! :3

I skipped the i70s and went straight for the i80s

Didn't even know the CT loot was higher than Darklight until I finally had enough to buy a piece and saw that the armor was weaker than what I already had (Crimson vest). Now I try to get a shot in on CT as much as possible, though I don't usually have time to run it. So far 2 out of 2 runs, I've gotten a piece of the Crimson gear. I know I won't continue to be as lucky in the future though XD

The thing is, Binding Coil of Bahamut is the only content currently that drops only i90 (tomes+gear). Every other source of mythology tomes will give you about twice as many (or more) philosophy tomes. You end up with so many philosophy tomes that you wish the cap was a lot higher than 2000 so you didn't have to take the time to spend them on something (that you will eventually not really need). So yeah, I'd pick up darklight pieces and get to the point as quickly as possible where you can farm mythology tomes. You'll want your first 900 mythology tomes to go to upgrading your relic to relic zenith anyway, so you'll need that darklight gear.

Assuming it not your primary job and already geared in myth you could skip all gear and go straight to myth, I have bard and drg geared in myth/allagan gear so just had myth laying around so I lvled up whm and went straight into myth gear when got to 50.

But crafted i70 gear is still better than darklight.
You can meld materia into it, you can dye it and it look better for the vanity system.

Seriously farm CT and hold out for that one item you want. RNG will leave you swimming in more Phil. Tomes than you know what to do with.

Ill skip DL for my alts and farm Myth tomes on my main (one piece shy of full Myth) to buy Myth gear for my alts.

This of course assumes the Myth cap removal in 2.2.

I think you are the only one to actually answer his question....

Crafted HQ I70 gear = same stats as the DL gear (may be a some slight exceptions), if you look, most, if not all the stats will line up to be the same.
You can also put material into the gear for a (Secondary Stat increase).

Is it worth your time or your gil? Seems everyone has their opinion about that... but, that is your prerogative.

It comes down to your resources. If you have the gil to buy the green or know someone who can craft it for you, it's arguably better than DL. You can meld materia to it to push it past DL, plus it just looks better. I'm sorry, but DL is ugly as s*^%.
