I was reading through some of the Japanese posts through Google translate and saw one of them I really liked the idea of.
If jumping is implemented it should be limited to Chocobo only. Similar to how it worked in other FF's even. Where riding a chocobo is necessary to jump over and access hidden areas and even dungeons and quests.

I have yet to feel limited without being able to jump in XIV.
Hell I just played through Bulletstorm on the PS3 two times and it took someone complaining to me there was no jumping that I noticed there was no jumping, Jumping isn't everything. -

Oh my god, it's just jumping. Just implement it already, it's not going to destroy the sacred world that is eorzea. Why does this small ability contrive so much heated debate when it's such a simple feature?

I just want to be able to move over ankle high ledges... Really, I think that if it IS implemented, it should be something automatic like in XIII or X-2. If you reach a ledge that can be jumped, you do it. The invisible walls that I can't move up and down though are really killing me. Especially since there are some areas in Ul'Dah that take 3 minutes to run around. If you've done anything around Camp Horizon, you know the cliff. There's a leve with the Lalafel Assassins or the THM quest with the Goats... The map suggests you can run straight north, but nope. There's a short cliff that impedes your way, and it takes 3 minutes to run around it. I don't wanna see anything crazy like WoW where people bounce all over, but some automatic jump spots definitely won't break the balance.

I like the idea of Chocobo jumping but only if automatic when it gets to a big ledge or something. As Lusavari just said the whole thing would be better if it was just a little auto jump that got me up or down little ledges, I don't want to be stood in Ul'dah and everyone jumping over Lalafells, though that would be amusing for a little while ^^

Oh and yes I am against jumping because not only would collision detection be an issue but so many glitches would occur because the game was developed without this feature in mind. So the respective development groups potentially did not design for that aspect of the game.
Plus watching people play games with any jump feature (not naming names) is obnoxious because the do it at completely inappropriate times or like every 2 seconds. It almost seems as if their space bar is stuck.

I'd prefer better world design over jumping. Jumping really has no purpose in the game...and the last thing i want to see is a ton of people randomly hoping around a crystal waiting for their leves or behest to start, it just gonna create an immature and unrealistic atmosphere...no thx.

I really don't understand the whole hubdub about adding the jump feature. As a long time FFXI player I didn't miss all that much. And most jumping in other games is just something to do when ADD kids can't stand still for 2 seconds.
In this respect I do not miss it.
However, I would like to see some more exotic locales get added in XIV. Especially where elevation is involved. Final Fantasy has always been known for incredible character animations and design. I would like to see that carried forward in jumping.
Such as in XIII, jumping was restricted to very specific locations and was highlighted by little circular nodes of light to indicate you could jump there. While I was not a fan of these circular nodes standing out so much in the environment. I do recognize it was necessary so ppl could see they were there. But maybe they could fade into being visible when your approach them. Not being able to see them from clear across the map. This should help with Level of detail issues as well. There is really no need for incessant jumping, because it interrupts the continuity of the game. When telling a story you don't say the main hero jumps continuously to get over a rock?! No you say he somersaulted or sprinted around said rock. It's more dramatic and more interesting to watch.
Also in XIII there were plenty of places to explore, it wasn't all flat, you could jump to higher or lower elevations to do more exploring. Would be awesome to see this in an MMO. And the jumps could be animated so they are per race so they are unique.
I'd like to see it take so far as you could even climb in some locales. Such as if you approach cliff you could climb up or down it if it was allowed!
I like the Chocobo jumping idea too. I'm all for Chocobo's allowing you to travel across certain terrains types. Such as water, Mountains, flying, etc... It could make some areas inaccessible to some lower level players because they are not high enough to rent a chocobo, or not experienced to ride said chocobo.
But when you talk about such advanced elements and the fact that they did not develop the current environments with this in mind. The jumping feature may not be included till an expansion. Which would make since.
But I tell you what, if my Miq'ote can somersault like what is seen they can do in the Ul'dah intro movies that would be awesome! -

Forum-wise it seems there are many players who want it, quite a bit that do not, and the rest don't really care.
All they have to do is make jumping only available in field areas, and not in combat. This would provide the limits that everyone needs at the very LEAST.
I'll say it again. We NEED to be in agreement on how this can be handled so SE can make up their minds easily. A Zelda-like jumping feature would fit this role nicely and it doesn't seem to bother people.
Instead of "No, just no. We don't need Jump", contribute to a solution for something that everyone can tolerate or enjoy.
In regards to Chocobo-jump. I would prefer raising/upgrading your chocobo features. Eventually being able to Fly. (Yes, i said Fly. I went there) -
