Target is Not in Range madness!!!

I play a summoner so in dungeon events at 50, and range is everything, from killing adds to running for your life at times. Over a period of the last 10+ days each time I've played in a dungeon or busy event, I've been unable to cast damage on a mob or a heal on a player unless I'm basically standing right on top of them. I've played several characters, how to play them and essentially could drive and play them blindfolded so I know the ranges.

I need serious technical assistance with this range in game issue or I'm gonna lose some hair and rage quit. I first thought it must be a latency issue so I've reset my router, modem, reloaded drivers on my NiC...hell I even deleted the entire FF14 game program and reinstalled it and the updates in case something was corrupt.

My connection info is Comcast Cable modem with direct connection with 10baseT from a Cisco router. My numbers are on average around 15ms ping times, over 28.19 Mbps down with 6 Mbps up...all numbers gathered from www.speedtest.net and xfinity speedtest site. A fix would be nice, I like the game but after losing almost half this month's play time overall I've almost lost interest.

Nm, I just logged into Sparty, ported to the first zone I could think of and walked up to the very first mob in sight and it didn't fail to mess up...took some shots with my phone. Do your icon's show different colored text to signify out of range? Mine turn red. Or maybe that only works for actions on the crossbar....

And the game does have a screenshot feature. Defaults are Print Screen for keyboards and L1+ Start button for PS3 controllers (looks to be the same for both PC and PS3, according to the Lodestone's play guides).

Hey, thanks for pointing out the single picture mistake. I was in a hurry from the wife's glare, and it was my first time uploading to Google+. I'll redo it and post all the pictures I snapped in various states. From that picture though, you can see that I was looking at and standing right next to the mob...my spell icon is lit...and I purposely pressed Z to lower my arm to show that I was unable to cast even standing next to the mob. I'll post the rest because they were actually clearer than that one that was posted...thanks for the reply.

Ok I loaded all 10 that I took trying to show what is happening. And yes certain text on screen shows that I'm well within range (standing next to the mob) and still completely unable to cast.

I moved around the entrance to the zone a bit and "could" successfully cast on a sprite while standing next to it, but the majority of the game is unplayable...I'll take another screen shot of my connection information and post that as well.

Ok, I've added 17 more pictures and figured out how to take in game screen shots, so I added in game shots of it not working and then actually working while I stood next to the mob. Also added 2 pictures of my ISP data from Ookla to different servers. Please let me know if you think I should post more data. I do want this solved.

Thank you for your interest...I finished uploading pictures of various things and you should see 25 pictures of things ranging from things I could hit...things I couldn't hit (99% of the time)...the state of my ISP connection...the state of my computer and the gear I have...the ratings of my OS. Please let me know if you need more.

Ok, I've solved this without any tech support YET...Don't get me wrong, just because I think I figured it out doesn't mean I have any clue how to fix. But I do have to ask is this the most efficient way to handle this? How often do the people that fix things actually view this? I'm almost through with yet another of my weekends without being able to advance my character...I'm completely frustrated and certainly would expect better service since I AM paying for this. PLEASE FIX MY CORRUPT CHARACTER?

It isn't my internet or my computer.

I logged out of my level 50 character Sparty Mcnugget and created a brand new character Sparty Darkskies and he operates PERFECTLY, so obviously my cartoon has become corrupted on YOUR server on YOUR end. I do expect at least 2 weeks of comped play time to be restored onto my account as soon as you fix the corruption on my main character "Sparty Mcnugget...

This forum is for users to assist users... it isn't a support line to SE. So, you aren't likely to hear back from SE, much less gather much of their attention in here either.

I know... the name is misleading a lot of people. It's detailed in the sticky welcoming you to this forum though.

For more direct interaction with SE on issues with the game, you need to use either the bug reporting section, a feedback section, or open a ticket at the support portal. Since this is an issue with your character data that may need recovery, you might need to open a ticket at the support portal. There is a button for support in the launcher that will take you to your region's support site for FFXIV. Here are links to the main pages though:

thought struck me as I flipped through them... just spit balling... but I wonder if maybe it's a funky issue with positioning that has gotten out of whack somehow. In some shots it looks almost like you are facing sort of left and away from the target. Not just the invalid target ones where your face is obviously looking off to the side, but ones where you're body/head looks like it's facing north and mobs are offset like 40-80 degrees around to the right. Then there are the obstructed view shots that shouldn't have gotten a message about being out of range. It would seem more like an issue of not being able to see the target than being out of range. Guess there indeed is something corrupted with the character data somehow...that or positional updating is just borked somehow getting to that world?

Would be nice if something as simple as zoning or a job change could resolve such weird glitches like we used to do in XI.

Yeah same thing happened to have crossed my mind too, about 2 weeks ago when this all started, it was almost like height had something to do with it as well. In some dungeons if mob was below me I could hit it, but it wasn't something I could duplicate. Sometimes it's 1 ft away and won't cast...other times it's "almost" full range, but never perfect (correct out of the box as it used to be). Can't imagine what they'll do to fix it but I've spent a lot of time on him and the stuff on him...would be bad if he or any of his things were misplaced...

I thought about it and logged back in this morning...same issue so clearly they didn't touch it over night...so I changed into Botonist...miner...goldsmith...alchemist...Thm...Cnj...back to Summoner and brought up my pet. Voila! it worked perfectly! at least in this zone on the test mob! I'll get back to ya.

Well...I played for a while last night, and it is still broken. The "job changing" trick seems to have reset my character to "some state" but it's a different location but the same problem. Sadly I'm getting very little support from Square Enix. I hope this happens soon because I'm running out of patience and time.

FYI, it was a problem 2 weeks prior to the posting of this thread that I have had an unplayable character. It's been how many days after I began this search for assistance to fix a broken account on a game I PAY FOR. I don't understand why it's taking so long for an employee of this company to come to my aid? If you guys seriously are this understaffed then this is a problem in itself that needs resolving!

I would apply myself if I lived nearby, but at this point, that is probably a joke.

Repeatedly bumping your own thread will just get it locked or deleted. As others mentioned, you aren't going to get any help from SE here. At the most you'll get a dev comment saying they're looking into it, but don't even expect that.

I wouldn't expect any help at all if I was you. But then again, I'm jaded by 10 years of terrible customer support from SE. Maybe it's better now, I haven't had to deal with them for quite some time. They still don't have a toll free support line though, which is a major fail in this day and age.

It's more because people are not requesting support through the proper channels. This is user to user support, not for requesting aid from SE, as detailed in the sticky welcoming us to this forum that so few seem to read

in character options under targeting there is an option to auto face mobs when using actions make sure that is turned on or you will get out of range error. hope it helps;)

Hi Kiyomi, I came back here to just close this thread because I had fixed it. I had never altered anything in the targeting section but once I clicked default it worked great...what a relief!
