Surplus not being removed in 1.18

How hard is it to turn it off? Really? Doesn't really affect me too much because I'm finishing off my last combat 50 within the week so I won't be playing XIV as much in general, and after that I'll only have 3 more classes left...

But, come on. He said it's being removed, so why can't they just have maintenance in a day and turn it off?

- most (sane) people don't like it, and many would say they hate it
- the text lies to you (lol, but seriously "bonus"?)
- doesn't prevent people who play more from speeding ahead of everyone
- inb4 "it's not that big of a deal if you level multiple things", because you can get incredibly far into it even while leveling all your combats at once, which no one really wants to do anyway
- inb4 "we SP too fast anyway, you can get 50 in a month with BW3". 1 month to get 50 in a game that's cap is going to be higher is a bit much. XI took, what, a week at most? The SP TNL is kinda crazy at 50, and only multiplies higher given the trend at 51~

Oh, and BW3 is getting nerfed. As are leves in general. And "SP might be bad again" according to Yoshi, at least for a while (until 1.19? until 1.20? beyond?)

Don't see how they'll be able to get things right in the future if they can't flip that switch off.

the surplus system hasn't stated in text the word bonus in months, when did you last play?

I would like to see surplus go but it's the least of SE's worries. Let them continue on with fixing the game first. =)

According to producer letter X, surplus will be removed "following balance adjustments". This clearly suggests that they consider straight-up removing surplus a bad move as it would allow "hardcore" players to level much faster. That means they're most likely going to nerf grinding SP across the board when they do it while further incentivizing strictly limited progress methods (the announced leve/quest completion rewards).

This is entirely speculative of course, but I have a hard time reading "balance adjustments" any other way.

Also you dont need BW leves to lvl up you can just grind on various mobs out there with a party like puks, coblyn and doblyn, efts, peistes or raptors, etc etc for example. You people are just lazy to explore and find nice camps to lvl up. And you have Behest too which is good for earlier lvls.

I agree that they need to get rid of it as soon as 1.18. And it couldn't really be that hard to reconfigure the bonuses and amount of SP it takes to rank up.

The reason for fatigue is to help casual players, but it's stupid because they do it by hurting hardcore players. The best way to help casual players is by adding, but limiting, bonuses. Guardian's Aspect and leve reset are good examples, but that's about all there is. They should really add just a plain old exp ring that recharges every so often (100% Bonus, Cap @ 15k SP 3 charges, resets every week), and you can use it for leves.

It's like they're trying to give bonuses to casuals, but also give bonuses to hardocores while at the same time nerfing them.

Try to grind when you're deep into your surplus thresholds. Try it. I dare ya. It ain't pretty.

Of course, people love to do things the hard way. This is what I kept telling the whiners at release. You won't gain anything from removing surplus because the system will take away that SP in another way. It will however hurt those who never hit surplus. But I suppose they're planning to implement something for casuals too.

People should be careful what they ask for.

Right now there's a lot of whining for the removal of gathering fatigue because people think they should be able to go out and gather items all day. Sure if people whine enough SE will remove it. But "following balancing adjustments" you'll end up spending 10 hours gathering the same number of mats that currently takes 2.

Eh, he seems pessimistic over the minimal of things as well as thinking everything is "easy to do" -- it's not easy to just up and change a progression system just like that. You can adjust values easily but not completely change the system without proper testing.

this is the real reason, yes they could easily turn off or adjust surplus (they did it in beta in like a week and again in regular release) but they arent ready because they havent properly nerfed all exp so that it doesnt matter much, be assured now that they said rested exp will be a coming, they are essentially going to just lower all uncontrolled SP, and give boosts where they want to.

I still dont understand why they are still trying to nerf SP gains, level 50 is a low cap, people been playing at cap for a long time, cant see them being afraid people will hit cap fast, they have nothing to do on the way up, and little to do at the end as well. The more they try to control the exp with these game modes, the more they will be encouraging people to log off, and lose interest.

like they wont learn from the leve example. and the surplus example. just let people gain levels at a decent clip, let hardcore people level as fast as they want, and try to build content that is not easily monopolized by high level people. let people enjoy the content at thier own pace.

All hardcores are already have 37 50's so it'd be pointless to keep it in to stop someone whos already surpassed it.

But yeh it doesn't affect me. In all honestly I prefer it.
