At lv 50 I've now had 3 or 4 weapons, and never come close to 100% spiritbond on any of them. Are other healers spiritbonding thier weapons? Am I doing it wrong?

You can spiritbond them fairly easily if you attach a few materia to them and either do a few quick WPs or CTs. My choice for the WHM SB is the Madmans Whispering Rod and the SCH would be the Erudites Picatrix of Healing. You can use lower level weapons if you prefer, but some tanks will rage on you for jumping into a Duty Roulette with 50% crafter gear and a level 45 weapon. Trust me... I speak from experience lol. It's best to just do SB runs with friends that know what the runs are for.
Orwen is right - its better to do your SB with FC/friends. You'll get booed at if you crash into DF with such gear - :)
We usually get our Master to switch on the SB buff in the FC, and then I gang up with some friends and run naff dungeons when I'm on a SB phase....like old ones, low level (for all my old wands that are just lying around). Then laugh at myself as I forget the synch and my screen shouts at me "You don't know that spell yet! Sort your life out! The Tanks gonna die!"
Do you have to attack with your wand to get it to SB?
No - you just need to gain exp whilst having it equipped....so best way is dungies or Fate parties.
Different items bond at different speeds. Melded stuff bonds quicker (I think), as does crafted stuff.
So, even if all you did was walk around and do quests and never battle, you'd still spirit bond...eventually....slowly... :)
EXP = SB
My Alkalurops might never have made it to 1%. My Mog weapon might also be at 0%. My relic is currently at 0%. I'm either getting upgrades too quickly or SB is absurdly slow ;p
^ Its probably a mix :)
My Alcopop (as I like to call it) has some naff % spiritbond, even tho I used it loads...It is now parked away somewhere...never to be converted...maybe one day in our housing we will be able to display our weapons......I can't be bothered to SB it now....meh
You are just too good at getting upgrades! (that's the excuse I would go with, and I do!)
It depends on the level of mobs you fight.
i70+ stuff isn't going to SB against mobs in the world, at least not at a noticeable rate. To effectively SB those, you need to go into dungeons/raids (Coil and CT work extremely well for i70-i80 gear)
i70+ gear doesn't sb at all in the outside world. (It only goes to 1% to show it being bound to you. Current I90 stuff used to as well but for some reason they changed it, doesn't matter though since you can't sell those.)
Only places to do it are: coil, CT, Haukke Manor/Copperbell HM, Pharos Sirius. Best choice is CT.
The item being HQ increases the speed as well as each materia on it, with no distinction between types/tiers of materia.
Oooo, thanks Kytre and Alistaire! Didn't think about it like that.
I will ask my FC nicely if I can take Alcopops into Coil next time - just for an SB... :p
Sweeeet
Crafted i70 gains 10~13% SB from a full run of CT. It's very easy to fully SB while you're waiting for your piece to drop.
There really shouldn't be a reason not to SB between ADS and Caduceus in T1. I know some people who switch to SB stuff during that section.
The rest of Coil I'd keep your good gear out...
EDIT: And yeah, CT is the best place for SB right now, until Coil is unlocked. Even then, don't SB in Coil with randoms, just FC groups (or you will likely get kicked for hindering the group)
Since I hit 50, basically all I did was Ifrit HM (one clear), Garuda HM (one clear), Thornmarch (many times to get the weapon), Titan HM (one clear). Lately I do CT once a week, and try to find PF Ultima HM goups. I've been in T1 with a newbie friendly group that didn't clear the snake. I guess I'm more interested in actual progression than grinding tomes, which is leaving my gear unbound.
In the GC armor, there's a ring or wrist item you can buy that increases spirit bonding. Not sure by how much it actually does it, as I haven't paid attention, but may be worth your while.
As far as boosting spiritbond goes, you have the Patriot Choker and Patriot Bracelet from GC for +1 each (Can replace the Patriot Bracelet with the bracelet for completing 500 Company Leves for +2 instead), Meteor Survivor Ring from a sidequest for +3, can wear an Aetheryte Ring (itself a convertible item) for +1 (Or the ring for completing 200 provisioning missions for +1), the earring for doing 500 supply missions for +1, and a Gambler's Crown for melding 5 materia to a single item for another +1.
All told, you can get +9 to spiritbonding. However, I don't know how fast this actually increases spiritbinding, you'd be gimping your stats even more, and outside of the aetheryte rings you can't convert these items.
I also have to ask, why worry about SBing ilvl 70+ weapons? The Alkalurops is the only one of those you can convert, and why would you?
