Is there any chance to have updated/competitive PVP ?

In it's current state I believe that PvP is far more frustrating than it is fun, after few month of rank up, farming equipement and melding task (bored, expensive...), what should we expect from pvp ?

I mean, gears will be obsolete in 2.2 with new ilevelcap, so is the current pvp a story about rank, gear and even more boring materia melding ?

There is nothing exciting to farming rank or get gears if we cannot enjoy this more than few weeks, the pvp shouldnt have a similar PVE approch.
We play players against players for fun, competitive or others reasons, probably not to get xperience with pug.

Pvp might be interesting in the near future. Farming keeps attention of players but i really hope you decide to instant updating gears instead of giving us bashing again and again.

The plans for 2.2 are stated in previous live letters and more info will be released on the 21st with the next live letter. That being said yes they are adding matchmaking for pvp based on ranks also rated arena matches as well as adding in tweaks and balancing issues. Also stated in the recent game watch interview with yoshi p he said the req for ilvl 90 pvp gear will not be rank 30 anymore which leads me to believe that higher ilvls and higher ranks and or incentives are coming very soon.

Well i hope too that the modification of matchmaking will lead to competitive pvp. Because i didn't read something about it for the moment (maybe you have some sources ?)

There is no challenge in PvP for the moment. There is now some R30 players but (at least on Chaos) they all stop PvP after getting geared. 4v4 does not exist. PvP really lack of competitiveness.

No

Its from a 2 part game watch interview from early this month. Official translations were posted on the forums also Reinheart translated the entire interview word for word and posted as well with his own forum topic. Most of the things people don't know because all the major interviews are usually never translated to English.

I think something like that would be fair, as long as those people who have already been 30 for awhile and had to wait for the gear aren't completely shafted then I won't care. If it encourages people to play then it's good for the community.

They better not add new gear, i've already grinded (ground?) 2 sets and going for a 3rd. If i have to replace it all in 2.2 i'm going to be real mad

There will certainly be another updated set, but I think it will take a few weeks to prevent the player from using this set in new PVE content.

It is better to update set from 70 to 90 and second from 90 to new ilvlcap but I'm pretty sure that sound bad and we will grind new set and spend millions gils again to meld materia on it...

There is nothing to suggest a new set will be unveiled for PvP in 2.2. The Wolves' Den isn't even a bullet point in the producer's updates which leads me to believe there will be very minor changes and nothing groundbreaking like 8v8 or ranked arena, both of which would warrant the implementation of better rewards and increased ranks.

My guess is they will raise the rank from 30 to 50 (or some equally trifling amount), change a few things with matchmaking and have us sit on our hands until 2.3.

GW: In patch 2.15 it was mainly adjustments related to PvP.

Y: I think with the last 2.15 patch, it spread it out. There is one staff that’s always doing Wolves’ Den but if you watch that staff he plays in different variety, says the WHM is now strong. We’ll continue to observe the situation, and we’re going to put in rating match in patch 2.2.

Thanks you for the sources ! So the "rating match implementation" may lead to competitive pvp. We'll see the 21st.

Direwolf being available to lower ranked players is wonderful. Even if it is potentially scaled down to a weaker item, the gear gap is diminishing and that's a good thing for this community.

What information we've been given on the rating system is still ambiguous and needs clarification. It can be something as complex as a matchmaking rating that totals your individual performance, weighing and pairing you accordingly. It can be as basic as a binary rank filter where only your level matters, herding the populous low ranks together while high ranks have a very limited pool to draw from (this is a niche, after all). Both of these can produce largely different outcomes, especially when you factor in nuances like population density, queue times, rank distribution, player incentive, and so on and so forth.

Just have to wait for more information to come before any conclusions can be made.

I would prefer if the matchmaking were done completely on performance or some other metric other than rank. I can tell you there are a plethora of r30 players that are a detriment to a team. Don't do their role, failure to follow a plan, cause issues that cost a match, bad rotation, etc. There are many i70 people i prefer over large amounts of i90. Rank alone doesn't mean good. Much like in PvE, just because someone has i90 gearscore, does not mean they are satisfactory for killing a dragon.

Ok to be more specific here match making is based on rank it has been stated that this is how the system will be. As for players who want to go off more of a metric or performance based that's the rating system they are implementing it's not gonna be the same que in the duty finder from all the facts that have been presented in the last 2 interviews with Gamewatch and Fumitsu. Now some of the translations could be slightly off but everything points towards it playing out pretty much exactly how ive stated this reply.

As for what you stated i completely agree with you that some players in i90 that suck and dont do what they need to in a match. It happens a lot rather i would be more mindful if it looks like they have no idea how to play the class at all at rank 30 thats a clear indication they bot to the rank to begin with. As for you saying i70 players are better thats gonna be obvious if the rank 30s bot and in some cases even if they didn't bot to the rank. With this being said you also have to understand the game mechanics of how you earn pvp skills. If you do everything on a metric or performance lvl people will still be gimped vs higher ranks purely on the lack of pvp ability's to use and that's huge. So they have to implement it by rank to make sure its fair for everyone

I see two different systems in your first post, is that right? A rank filter applied to the duty finder we have now to separate high from low ranks and rated queues being added which are separate from the normal ones? Did they touch on how performance will be tracked (individual, premade)?

Metric scaling is actually the most fair of all in rated play because the players in i70 who are getting a chance versus top rated i90 players are likely exactly where they should be if they've performed well. It's a testament to their skill in having made it that far despite the disparity.

Also the "ability advantage" tapers off around rank 20 as most classes have earned and maxed their most beneficial skills early on. High rank is nothing but ineffectual point dumps, at least for Paladin.

Yes they are 2 different systems the rating will be based on metric or skill lvl of the player themselves or the team rating. The regular queing for match making will be based on ranks and yes once you get to rank 20 or so the pvp abilitys tapper off. But like i stated what about the people who are new and not rank 20 or higher. If they have to do a metric system based on skill and performance its just the same as it is now with no match making at all. It's not fair for the masses of lower ranked players who get destroyed over and over again making them not care for pvp which is why pvp is not very appealing atm for most people.

Rating system, smating system. Whatever happened to the good ol days of get yer *** handed to you by vet players, get pissed off, get geared and abilitied up, then come back and take names? Is all pvp to be catered to the casual individual now? Its bad enough people are bitching so much about the climb to rank 30, and the fact is, even after Yoshi goes out of his way to make things as balanced and noob-friendly as possible, people are STILL gonna complain. I get the logic he's trying to make pvp more appealing to the general masses, but at what point do you just tell people to suck it up, grind, and take the punishment? Too much catering.

Well im all for the masicistic grind and get raped until you get the gear. But this is final fantasy they never did pvp before and the people that do try pvp. Have come from other games that they were handed everything on a silver platter. He is just trying to make it appealing and i give him props for trying to please the masses. Its what will keep people playing instead of just leaving and it will also make pvp more populated so im all for it atm i dont like sitting in que for 30 mins either so anythinG they can do to fix it is a plus.

True. The more fresh blood the better. I dunno. I guess just all the complaints about everything being unbalanced, unfair etc are just kinda urking me. My last pvp was Ballista in ff11 (yeah yeah I know I know, but it passed the time well :P) in which there were NONE of the considerations in which people are demanding now (and yes, NA's didn't take too well to ballista but more than enough jps did to make matches consistant, 40+ member matches most times) No ranking system, beginners and vets all thrown into one..and names were all there so certain people got dogged severly harder than others. Even so, matches kept going. So looking at it from THAT perspective, hearing all the complaints about everything is just....kinda laughable lol. Especially considering this arena style (I think?) seems to be nothing more than a prerequisite for whats to come with frontlines.
