Picture it if you will.
You are facing a boss and down to 5% or so. Both healers are down and someone intends to Raise one of them to heal the tanks enough to finish the boss off those last few percent.
Oops... you got the Raise accidentally even though you are not DPS and quite possibly have no healing spells to speak of.
What do you say to yourself?
"Wow thanks for that! I aint a healer but i do appreciate the Raise!"

Soa SMN rezed a DPS when rezzing a heal would have made so much more sense. The SMN screwed up. OK...

As SMN I raise anyone who is down if the healer isn't able to for whatever reason. Raises do use a lot of MP but if you can use Aetherflow it's not such a huge drain. I do put priority on the tanks and healers, though. OTOH, raising a WHM if you don't also have a bard is not the best solution since they will raise with no MP and even with Shroud of Saints and/or Ether potions, will be slow to regen MP. Scholars are a little better off since they can pop Aetherflow.
