Reset - Prestige system (Suggestion/Idea)

This is an idea I just came with... That could get many forms until liking the people or not, who knows...

Actually it is some kind of reset-prestige system... For example, I thought about this, once all my classes reach level 50... I'll make another character just for starting from zero, that way I don't get bored never... (Does it work? Uh, well, depending of the person, I restarted a lot of matches and saved datas in FFXII and FFX just for starting again and get fun again... Why wouldn't it be the same or even better in online game where you can travel around with more people, etc?)

Ideas could be... When your character reaches level 50 with all the classes you can reset them all and obtain some kind of present while having the fun of levelling up again that class (Some people likes grind level and so, again it is opinion-based and I don't expect everyone to like it, because it is imposible to design something that everyone would like)

Of course this could be made in different ways.... For example... That you wouldn't need to level all the classes, just the classes of one type. (Example you level all your disciples of war and then reset them, or discipls of hand, land, magic...) Or even reset only one class...

As for rewards it could also be different, since giving you some number aside the name or different symbol or something whenever you use a restarted class, showing how many times you restarted (Is it useful for anything? No, but... If you are bored, why not reset?) Or giving something that would make resetting worth of it, such as stats bonuses, new skills, or allow you to obtain some crosskills for that class that you wouldn't be able to obtain otherwise (Also making you the hard decission of choose which skill whenever you reset....)

Think on the most important thing... It would enhance the life of the game for certain people. Now what I wonder if that would be worth of Square Enix's attention or not... Since I can't value already how many people would like this... Maybe we should have a poll?...

So this is the idea of a noob, and probably bad explained because my English is not really good, negative and positive comments are welcome, of course, but if you don't like it try to be constructive and not based in opinions such as "It would be boring because I don't like level-grinding or resetting" and such...

I just read from ffxi info, that they make 'job point', so example you already cap at lvl. You still can play and accumulate the xp into job point (like 30k xp per 1 point from ff11 perspective) and that job point can be spend to get more better on your cap class

That's an awesome new for me, Archi!... It's also a good idea that, for example, you could select to upgrade more your stats, by selecting them, not just having a "bonus" when resetting a job...

I don't play FFXI anymore. How is the job point thing different than merit points?

We would know later after they show more information, but from what i can capture merit point you can earn by using any job and u can spend on any job. But with job point you only can earn job point by using that job for xp. Example i want get job point for warrior then i must use war to do that

Please keep your CoD play time FAR AWAY from you FF14 playtime, because clearly your CoD mind set is starting to leak into your FF mind set.


Anyone that puts forth the effort to hit 50 on ever job and class, isn't going to just toss all of that away for a special item unless that item is godly in power. Not to mention the fact that there is no point in such a system considering 50 is only the current level cap. If you really have the desire to relevel to 50 on everything again, there are 7/8 other character slots you can fill on your server/other servers.

I would much rather see something similar to the merit system in ffxi or planar attunement in rift where you can obtain exp at max level that gives you a point every time you get a "level" and then you can spend that point on things such as stat boosts, ability boosts, etc. some points you spend would effect your entire character regardless of job and some would be job specific. Personally I am not a fan of grinding so I would not use what you're suggesting at all, I'm more interested in level cap increases or other systems that will allow me to continue advancing my character without having to basically redo the same things over again.

Really though, In Chrono Trigger you replay the game like 10 times for different endings, and you get a star next to your name and unlock stuff for doing so. Worked well back then, played that game like 50 times :p

Geez... I guess I should have avoided use a word such as "prestige" because people seems to necessarily need to link it to CoD series or something, and we are in a FFXIV forum, I didn't even make any mention to CoD here...I already said I wouldn't even care for put this suggestion here because as Slatervorjager-san said I could easily make any other characters, but that's not the idea here for resetting, I'm giving an idea of something that could be implemented or we could do, not wondering about what I actually can do (Make another character when this reach all-50)

There's people that wouldn't mind in rewatch-live again the content, especially if you give them a little reward for it, of course not so big so other players that doesn't like that wouldn't feel 'forced' to also reset because of the bonus-reward...

And you are right! It's a win for they and for this kind of players that like such things, isn't it?!.... Not a big deal to just addapt it for rerolling everything! :P

Just linking this thread to another I got an idea of other bonus/reward/item that could be granted when you decide to reset your character or certain classes, or group of classes or whatever... Obtain a new phial of Fantasia for changing the race and etc of the character!...

Square Enix was studying how to grant more phials of Fantasia after all, isn't it?... This could be a good way to... Since you are redoing the character from zero and have to relevel it.... Be able to change appeareance would be a must.

PS: Please avoid comments such as "Make a new character, you start from zero again and you don't need a phial of Fantasia for change appeareance or race". The idea of the suggestion is to make something we can't do already, of course we can do that of make a new character right now... But the meaning of this thread is to give you the option of obtain extra things by deciding to take the hard work of leveling everything or a certain thing again, giving more sense to a restart and recycling content in a cool way.

They can simply add the Merit point system FFXI. Once you hit 50, u can level after that, where your exp will go into a different calculation where u get points to put into VIT, STR, or Incraese Shield bash during etc etc...

THAT!... It's a really awesome idea, Synapse-san!... To increase the effect of some skills, or their duration, or their damage, or upgrade their recast time... I hope Square Enix reads this, because you just had a genius idea. You kill two problems in one shot. Aside of this one, with that you'll achive to give the player more ways to customize their characters. (So maybe one person prefers for example to increase the recast of Fight and Flight, while others Rampage, or increase damage of RAge of Halone, or enmity bonus, bla bla bla...

Having different skills by selecting with one you want to upgrade more... Is a good way to prolongue the game, but also, the character customization.

PS: But if the Merit system as you said would be like that... It would be repeat a lot the content lvl 50 end-game that a lot of people already repeat, instead of 1-49 content. Still, it would be better than nothing.

Unlocked all the Achievements points is allready a good challenge no? Have you allready this done?

I can really just speak for myself, but i don't think this is a good idea, and most people would not want/need it...

Why ?

Well, i love playing as WHM, PLD or BRD. But i would not reset these jobs, as i need them for Lv.50 content (Coil, CT, primals, dungeons)

As for the other jobs (right now i just miss DRG and MNK at 50), in general i was happy to get them to 50 and be done with them. I would not want to level them all over again.

There is no content that locks you out for being too high level, you can always run any dungeon at Lv.50 and get sync-ed down (i often tank low level dungeons for FC members)

So, personally i would only use that system if there was some super-awesome reward to it, and even then it would be a big chore/hassle to me.
