It's a subscription model, so no.
Dang >.< I'm terrible at finding new stuff, so I always end up in those stores.
I think there was a thread about official translation for paid retainers..
Edit: here you go
F: What about the additional features for retainers coming in patch 2.2?
Y: We will implement a fee based retainer service which we have been announcing since the previous FFXIV days. With that, we’re going to add new features aside from being able to store items, and currently preparing for it.
From Reinheart's
Not sure how to interpret that one though. The fee could have mean the "in game gil" that we need to pay to hire the extra retainer since our first 2 retainers are free?
A thing I loved of this game and even if eventually I reach to explore it to the max is that it's not "Free to play" what always, always, (did I used always word already?) have a 'garbage item shop'...
I just can't stand games that are 'free' but you have to pay for enjoy the game or play it in same conditions than others, are the already knwon P2W (Pay to win) a damn genre that increased a lot these last years....
Don't worry, this game you pay your monthly fee and you forget about the rest, it's the best thing it has ^^... I doubt they would ever change that because would be a fail and probably make a massive exodus, reason is....
I like your hopfulness but highly doubt it. lol
Just a matter of time before people realize the mog station is just a hidden start of a big cash shop in disguise.
Edit: also have a vague memory of my 1.0 days when the system was first talked about, about the pricing, thats going to be the same as a character (1$/eu?) per retainer a month... dont remember where I saw that but i somehow remembr that from the old days... Of course it could be different on 2.0
I think I read somewhere that you can send your retainers on a treasure hunt, sort of like the Pocketstation from ff8 if you do purchase that additional retainer. I highly doubt it's in gil.
Time will tell, but personally I doubt that this game will start working with a micropayments model on top of the monthly subscription for ingame items/benefits.
As long as the cash shop (if ever) will be just pure vanity and have nothing to do with stats., I don't care.
They've announced that way back at the launch of FFXIV 1.0. It was originally structured as 1 retainer per player, each additional retainer is $1 USD. Unless if I'm mistaken, this increased your maximum retainer for your entire account by +1. So each of your characters could have one additional retainer.
Eventually, people started to reach their item storage limit back in FFXIV 1.0, that they gave everyone a "free" second retainer, which stuck with us now all the way here into FFXIV:ARR.
The retainer system isn't all too different from 1.0, the storage size limit per retainer has changed, and instead of localized market for each city, its one global market. This means it doesn't matter where you've set up your retainer to sell your goods anymore.
The thing I hear about micro-transaction models, is that they have to be structured from the beginning to support it. It isn't easy to slap it on a game changing mechanic as a forethought after the game has been developed without planning for it.
With that being said, vanity items seems to be favored a lot in F2P games as things you could purchase. Though, it really brings nothing to change the mechanics of the game itself.
Buying additional retainers though, does a make a difference though, by increasing maximum number of items you can sell on the market boards.
Though, this has been planned ever since the development of 1.0.
Normally, I would provide a link to the source, however having difficulty finding it at the moment.
The only thing I could find is from fansites, http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?foru...07785645538689
Are you actually wanting such a thing and If so why!?
Are you sure about that? Are you saying that its okay that the lets say the warrior lvl 30 mount gets pulled from the game and put into the cash store because SE knows it will pocket them a cool couple hundred grand? That content in game that you pay a subscription to help develop also has a separate 24.95 price attached to it aswell. If cool helms are developed for 5.99 a pop and we get more recoloured gear from dungeon drops and crafting?
Would you really be happy with that???
I think they will implement it for the phantasia to change your appareance, but not for mount or other things.
I'm definitely against that. One of the things I love about this game is the lack of an "Item Store".
In my opinion, each one of those "vanity items" they add to the store is content that could have been added to the game as content and achievable through gameplay. This would give people more things to do in the game and more to strike for, keeping people playing that much longer.
Actually, they're already doing it. *Cough* Behemoth mount *Cough*, and I'm perfectly fine with it. I don't care with those kind of stuffs anyway, and I'm speaking from my own PoV, if you don't like it, then don't. I'm not forcing anyone.
Why so serious brah? You're overthinking too much mate.
Not saying that I want an item store. Just saying that IF they do, IF said items have no stats, then I have nothing against them being there and people buying them. They are totally useless besides look, and I can find plenty of beautiful things to wear for glamour without any paying garbage
I doubt SE will add micro transactions on anything other then phantasia potions because if they do its a big sign of greed.
And that Greed would eventually grow bigger and then it would only be a matter of time before stat boosts/weapons and armor will come next.
As soon as SE starts selling for $$$ things other than server transfer, name change or phantasia potion - im out. Veteran rewards arent that bad since everyone will get them eventually as long as they play long enough.
It will happen vanity mostly buy special mounts etc wow does it and it works as long as it doesnt affect gameplay its fine with me to be honest.
Yes it will - Every game including every SE game as of late has microtransactions. They even stated the Mog Station is set up to incoporate a cash shop of sorts. We already know the first item we'll be buying with actual money is Fantasia Potions. Considering how much people like fluff and useless items like Minions and Mounts it's guaranteed it will happen as other sub based MMOs offers it. (they all do nothing for gameplay uinless someone can show me how it raises my ilvl or unlock new dungeons)
Even XI tested out the 'cash shop' idea by selling Destiere Berret and Chocobo Shirts item codes for $4 each, it went over pretty well.
Maybe
Or they do what was planned since launch of old XIV with $1 extra fee for every extra retainer.
Character slots fee was $3 each character slot
hmm, it sound more that we don't pay for more retainer but we pay the retainers to work more
At least our retainers can now level up ^^Quote:

F: It will be a type of useful feature?
Y: It’ll will be a new play mechanic where you can dispatch. You decide on the retainers job and class, then pay a tip (tip/chip - as in form of payment, tokens) and choose the item you want to obtain. Then you dispatch the retainer. Once the retainer successfully obtains the items, they will gain experience points and gain levels, and will be able to wear different types of gears.

We saw this level 2 years in our retainer menu with no way to increase the level, until now
I'm all for paying for items as long as they are simply cosmetic.
I would also like to see some sort of gambling implemented in game or mini-games
This is something that people would get regardless if they continued to sub for the game though. Sure, it's an enticing enough perk for some to pay for a lot of game time at once, but it's not something you have to pay extra for.
Also here's Reinheart's translated version of the Retainer stuff from the Famitsu Article:
Bolded the "since the previous FFXIV days" for emphasis. I don't want to speculate too much until after the English translation comes through for the next Live Letter, but I interpreted that as back in the day they were going to charge us a $1 extra per month for extra retainers. It's sounding like this retainer system is something extra, but again, I don't want to read into it too much yet. Paid service simply could mean the latter part where you have to give one of your existing retainers a tip (maybe some gil or something) to go out and perform tasks for you.Quote:

Very much a wait and see what the official English translation says type of deal. This is a borderline "Pay to Win" scenario if they're charging extra monthly for it since it does technically give you an advantage over players who can't/won't pay for this. I'm hoping it's simply an in-game gil sink.
If they go with fee based (real money) retainers, I'm betting they will be available to every character on an account... which then makes sense of why they made certain decisions with regards to transferring Gil/items between characters on the same account
(....by restrictions... I mean made it impossible with outside assistance)
The only thing I would like sold are server, name, and character changes.
The only thing i want from an in game store is, the potion that lets you change how your character looks. And the ability to transfer servers. Everything else just takes away from the games potential
Not because someone disagrees with what you want to happen doesn't mean the person who disagrees doesn't understand it. It's just that some people doesn't really care. http://i.imgur.com/E3m3BC2.png
Meanwhile, everything in here is just all speculations. Regardless of whether there'll be cash shop or not, as long as it doesn't and won't affect my gameplay, I DON'T CARE. http://i.imgur.com/FNsXXvc.gif
