You forget the last Live letter before 2.1 was 3 days before the actual patch.
There's a good chance 2.2 will go live on March 25th. (I'm expecting another 24 maintenance on Mon)
Honestly, I was not expecting it to be so soon. Works for me, though.
Wish they would give you the patch notes 3 days or so before the patch. Similar on how the patch notes were posted on the lodestone for 2.16 and previous patch notes.
The question answer thing is ok but just gives you tiny glimpses and if it wasn't for Reinhardt almost all the rest of the non-Japanese world would have almost no clue what was going on other then seeing a small video clip from in game testing or a some pictures.
Please SE the rest of us in the world would prefer a pre-patch note release and a little more of a time line of expected release and if it has to get pushed back a little update about that. Thanks
Patch 2.16 Notes (02/19/2014) same day patch was released ...
been here since start of beta every day
I suspect 2.2 will drop around the release date for Elder Scrolls Online. They are going to have to put something out to try to retain the people who will be thinking about leaving for another MMO.
Oooooooh, I was expecting like, literally THE last day of March. I'm happy with this, and I can't wait!
A lot of people have been involved in the beta and they've been giving lack luster results, reporting that it's boring and doesn't introduce anything new to the genre. Then again, some people may want to play it simply for the story/lore. Only time will tell. As with any new MMO launch, you'll see an exodus from a number of games over to it to see what it's like, then grow bored of it and come back to the game they were into already.
So...basically FFXIV ARR? ESO actually gets you more involved than ARR does - it doesn't bring anything new to the table, like ARR, but it does the 'standard' better. I did a test by doing the same exact thing I did in my early start of ARR and no surprise it felt exactly the same, even the exact same quest types in almost literally the same exact order to "teach" you the game.
I honestly enjoy ARR more than ESO. I really wanted ESO to be my next MMO after all the hype my friends have for it (and then I was the only one that got in the beta), but it really is very lackluster as of the last beta test. I'm almost considering not bothering with the one that starts (started?) today. I'm sorry that you feel that both ESO and ARR on equally bad, because I felt ESO was *really* bad.
Everything I've heard of ESO makes me think it'll crash and burn hard..
Back on topic.. was hoping 2.2 would hit a little earlier in March, but it is what it is, I'd agree we'll likely see an all day maint. the 24th, with the servers coming back up early the 25th though.
That's the thing - Both are basically the same MMO and playing another "NEW" MMORPG that's basically nothing new to the genre (Like ARR) really shows you what became of this genre and how similar almost every "new" MMO is to one another to the point your same routine pretty much works in any. The only difference, obviously, would be systems for example instead of clicking a mail icon, you go to a moogle instead. I severely dislike the Elder Scrolls game but ESO pretty much plays out like any MMO you can get into these days.
Wasn't saying both were "equally bad", saying that if you can feel that ESO brings nothing new to the genre and has the same 'routine', the same can be said about ARR.
I've not heard one good thing about ESO, that's the honest truth. I had roughly 17 friends try it, and not 1 like it so far.
Threat level: extremely low.
While I enjoy ESO, ARR spoiled me animation-wise. The way people run, emote, and fight in that game gives me the giggles.
ESO doesnt offer much to fans of the series except very watered down versions of elder scrolls elements. And the combat is far too simple to hold MMO vets for the long haul imo. Itll have its following like most MMO but after the last few years of high hype/budget mmos failing hard shortly after launch im not concerned about losing too many from ARR.
March 24th......
FFXIV 1.0 had a lot of "new" things to the MMO Genre.. let aside the flaws it had, it had some great innovations which people actually didnt like because it was "new" and some things were far away from being easy to understand. Battle-Regimens were a great combined with the Incap System ( 15 man parties were fun as hell with that ), but yeah.. people found it too complicated, same with the early Crafting System. Monster AI was also great, where monster reacted to you depending on what you did and mobs also fought each other on the field. DoH/DoL Content like Hamlet was also great, same with the actual Minigames.. the list goes on..
It comes down to that people dont like "new" things and always compare it to things they know and like. So MMO's today will just go with standards and add their own "feel" to it. There is nothing wrong with that, but people have to keep in mind that wanting new things have also a downside like XIV 1.0 showed. ( let the bugs and flaws here aside here )
I had a small hype for ESO since the last mmo I played was fps action combat ( tera ) but the graphics in eso just suck wayyyy too much. They said they sacrificed graphical quality to allow for large zerg gameplay.....???????? Who wants to play large zerg games? get carried along in an ocean of people....wow. Even ff 14 far surpasses eso in graphical quality, and ff14 is anything but polished, but at least it looks pretty. ESO is probably the ugliest mmo ever ( apart from wow )
i thought the same thing theres something that doesn't sit right with the eso graphics on 1 hand it looks some what more realistic than ffxiv but also looks kinda off ..with thats said 10 years ago WOW graphics was the bomb they have really never bothered with updating them.. seriously i hate the eso pc/ mac controls seems better suited to a console controller than mouse and key board..
You can pretty much assume that anytime they give only the month as the release, it's gonna be in the last few days of the month. I've also yet to see SE ever bring servers up more than 5 minutes early from a scheduled maint.
I think the reason people didn't like the "innovations" was because they were implemented in a poor fashion and complicated as you mentioned, not because they were new.
Battle Regimens were cool in theory but their use was incredibly clunky. Readying a regimen left you standing there unable to do anything until everyone else was ready, not to mention for months after release the feature itself was bugged and would decide not to trigger and leave you standing there unable to do anything. There's also the issue that the regimen combos were a little poorly planned out, like you could trigger defense down with physical + magical or 2 physical, but magical defense down required physical + magical and not 2 magical. I was sad to see it go cause it had potential.
The orignal crafting system, well there's a lot to hate about that. 100% luck-based, abilities of which only 3-4 actually did what they said, crafting stats that had no explanation and no way to tell what the hell they did, and some baffling recipes that required materials you couldn't even make unless you were 20 levels higher in the same craft you were trying to make said item with. There were no blacksmith tools past the level 1 tool available for a very long time because of it.
Omg that "p2w" statement the game isn't even out. Heck majority of the people that scream p2w have no clue what p2w is. Go play a Aeria or PWI game. I remember everyone saying once the free trial was up everyone would leave and the community would be better, the community is still awful. PVE games usually have terrible communities.
I figured patch 2.2 and the PS4 version would release at the same time.
Well then I guess I'll save March's sub money for April!
I don't know whether or not it's changed. But in the previous live letter, they said they were aiming for 14/04/2014 because it was a good date
My god the ignorance is strong with a certain person in this thread concerning Wildstar, That game isn't pay to win, the only damn thing it will have that concerns real money outside of subbing so far, is a system that works like the thing they do in Eve. You can purchase an item that gives game time that can be sold on the games auction house for ingame currency. A far cry from pay to win, if anything it benefits those who have a good grasp of making money in that game because with a bit of effort in game you could basically play for free, which is something that interests me greatly.
Square Enix is an expert on pushing things farther. Best example VS or Final fantasy 15. So we should expect 2.2 along with PS4 release on April 14. I dont think it will happen before that.
They said 2.16 will come at the end of feb, it came at the end of feb. They said next live letter will be in Sapporo in march, it's in Sapporo in march on the 21st. Coincidentally the live letter before the 2.1 launch was a week before the update hit, there is a week of march remaining after the Sapporo live letter. Everything so far has followed the schedule set out in the last live letter.
They said 2.2 will launch in March... nah lets not believe them instead it will be on this very specific date in April because forum posts.
