Quick question about Hawk's Eye

I have no idea if now that it's been tweaked, if it can affect the accuracy of all attacks or just the accuracy of physical attacks. Before, it didn't give an increase to DEX, and it only gave a 20% accuracy to physical attacks. Now though, it says it gives that +15%, and guarantees that all attacks land.

But after searching at least 5 different sites, including the XIV Wiki, nothing reflects it's updated status, so I have no idea whether it can affect accuracy of magic attacks or not.

Someone help.

Posting limit hit again it seems, I only ask this question because it would be the fourth ability SMN would have that's a useful Cross-Class action, we literally have nothing else after Raging Strikes, Quelling Strikes, and Swiftcast.

I wonder how it can be a viable skill when every caracter in coil is supposed to get at least the accuracy cap ?

I suppose it can be used as a transitional cross-class skill, when the character does not have enough accuracy on their gear yet. Once they do meet the hit cap, then they should drop Hawk's Eye for a different cross-class skill. You could argue that they could use food instead of using up a cross-class skill slot.

Hawk's Eye does not have 100% uptime...so if you're using it for the accuracy boost you're still going to be missing. Which is not a good thing...

Wasn't there some recent testing that proved accuracy caps changed based on positioning?
Aka, it takes a higher accuracy from in front of the mob than from behind.

If that is actually true, then it could be useful to pop when you are forced to the front, while not having to "waste" stats on accuracy for the rest of the fight.

Name a melee job that can use Hawk's Eye

It works on magical attacks, but I don't know anyone that would rely on a skill with a 22% uptime to hit the accuracy cap. You'd still be taking a major DPS loss the other 78% of the time, it seems a bit ludicrous. The only way Hawk's eye is ever going to be useful as a cross class skill to classes who don't benefit from DEX, is if we have content that has spiking defense stats... like if Twintania got a 50% defense buff every 2 minutes, you could pop Hawk's eye to try to shore up the accuracy gap, then back to relying on typical defense/accuracy levels. But, as it stands, it is completely pointless.

What does that have anything to do with what we're talking about?

Example:
Hygieia and Asclepius pop and you have to run into the pit to avoid the next set of divebombs.
Snakes are faced toward you and there's nothing you can do about it, so you pop Hawk's Eye as a BLM to ignore increased accuracy cap until you can get behind them again.

I'm 99.999% sure the positional accuracy is for melee only (MNK, DRG, PLD, WAR).

Prove me wrong though. Go do the testing yourself and show proof that its ranged too. But so far, I've only seen melee reporting it.

Well, positional accuracy definitely applies to Bard as well.

It seems that maybe spells are all considered to be omni-directional though, so they always count as hitting from behind?
That would make sense as to why their accuracy caps have always been calculated to be lower than physical damage caps.

None of my mages are 50 or I would certainly test it.
But if it's true that spells are omni-directional, then you're definitely right that Hawk's eye is pretty much worthless for BLM/SMN.

I know that it is true for bards at least. The only time I will miss is when asclep is facing me during divebombs (sometimes the scourges at the start as well).

Probably because there's a large MNK thread and a large DRG thread, but no BRD thread.

Regardless, it's still odd that OP wants to use this on his caster class.

So what would the accuracy needed for bard then be for the front? I am just somehow skeptical since at 469 I have yet to miss anything on T5, could just be RNG luck I guess.

But more on topic, hawks eye is completely useless for a caster since as said, you should always have the accuracy needed if you are main classing it for higher end content.
