Why did square enix do this to bard?

So bard is a dps class right? Correct me if i'm wrong but it's main role is damamge then why does the class have a heal lb, if it has a healing lb either give us healing songs or change it to a dmg lb.

And I noticed the first month the game came out. So i'm just saying something now cause i'm bored.

Personally it doesn't bother me. If Bard has a damaging LB, what shall it be? Physical LB we already have the melees doing it, and given that PUGs are only bringing in one melee just for the LB for some of the instances, if Bard does "Final Heaven" then I think melee will be even out of job.

Ranged LB? You already have BLM/SMN doing it.

As a Bard my asset is 100% mobility, 100% uptime. Rather than finding the right time to cast LB due to long cast time and animation lock, I'd rather run around and continue my pewpewpew :D

Anyways BRD's healing LB isn't that bad. Used it a few times in Ultima HM fights during 2.1 release and it does save the day.

BRD LB is as such due to balancing. You cannot give BRD more utility without further nerfing them.

Imagine, BRD that can regen mana, TP, increase 20% damage, run while dps-ing, can silence, can AOE with single/AOE DPS LB. This sentence have nerf written all over em.

I have bard and I enjoy having healing lb .
Ive saved the day in more than one encounter where healers died.

Great mobility, good damage, great support ( overpowered songs) and the chance to raise all dead and heal everyone to full. A bit overpowered tbh .

i like this for when the healers all wipe...one more person can save the day for everyone.

Tanks:WAR/PLD > Defensive Limit Break
Healers:WHM/SCH > Healing Limit Break
Melee:MNK/DRG > Melee DPS Limit Break
Casters:BLM/SMR > Magic DPS Limit Breaks
Range: forever alone Bard > Healing? what?

They might add a range class LB once musketeer is up. keep your hopes up ;)

In 1.0 it would have made sense since bards could access to WHM spells.
But I guess the resurrection/cure went to Arcanist (SMR/SCH) so they decided to make bard more DPS... but i think this was not fully though-through

It still make sense to me. Yes BRD is a DPS class but no matter how you see it, it's kinda like a part time support too due to the massive amount of utility it carries.

Having a BRD with healing/ressing LB is like having a SMN in your team for the extra battle rez.

Looks like the general consensus is:
Bard's are too good to have any other LB (between the ones we have now to choose from).

As it was said before, a Bard with a melee class LB would completely wipe DRG/MNK from virtually everything. If it had Caster LB, SUM would also probably be ran off, leaving your BLMs and BRDs. BLM only because it has better AoE capability than BRD. BRD has like grade B solo and AoE DPS, has Silence, and provides TP/Magic Resistance Reduction/ MP with only a 20% decrease in damage. So.... yep! Healing LB for ya.

Funny thing is Bards are almost always meant to be support classes.

Something interesting, I think:

The Greek Apollo is god of the sun, medicine, music and archery.
Medicine = Healing Limit break
Music = Bard Songs
Archery = Duh

Just something I thought was interesting while trying to form connections between Greece and Eorzea the other day.

I think they should have a "buff"LB.
I don't know let's say a general damage buff of 5% during 20 who will increase by 1% every sec.Just my idea but well i know you can have aoe LB or a single target LB on them but using a healer lb just sound completely wrong to me.

Didin't think about that, you have a good point.

I like that to cause in 11 they we're a buff class and never got around to playing bard so I wanted to try it out, but hardly any buffing. But maybe once they release more expansions and give more skills more buffs will come into play.

But in the end any party wide damage buff is basically just a damage limit break, it will just take longer to get the damage out. I can't think of what they would do tbh, maybe a huge spell speed/skill speed buff for phases that are both dps and healing intensive.

While CG movie we seen Bard use some kind of healing spell on WAR . . .

If things go south and you actually need a healer lb you usually dont want to commit the healer in sitting arround 10 seconds. Having a "DD" being able to do this is worth a lot.

I feel the extra Heal LB makes the BRD utility that much more OP. SE is just giving another tool to a swiss army knife. I'm fairly indifferent now to what they keep or give to the BRD, but to my own personal flavor, I wish they would give BRD's a buff/debuff LB that was % based. Melee damage dealers would get a higher % for example than BRD's, so it would still keep them VERY relevant and help with the synergism of the classes.

While I agree that bard having this is very helpful if the healer(s) die, it's still a strange choice.

As I was leveling bard this weekend, I couldn't help but notice, that while very fun to play, there is one major oddity I realized.

As an archer I was able to use Cure/Physick. As a pugilist I was able to use Cure/Physick. As soon as I equip the Bard stone, I can no longer use Cure/Physick, however my LB is healing.

Oh, and I thought bard was a support role.

The movie was made when 1.0 was still around and Bard could cross class CNJ abilities

I do not agree. The healing LB is only of real value until it hits 3 bars and you can get raise. Even then you are probably looking at a wipe, unless you can pop battle voice and mage ballad to get your healers MP back up really quick. The LB is not over powered it is almost non-existent. I think I have used it once in 6 months. If you are using a Bard LB on less than 3 bars you probably just wasted your LB. On the other side the number of times I have seen 3 bards in a dungeon and needed a DPS LB is ridiculous. But that's DF for you.

So the fact that we have MP Regen, a Magic Resistance Debuff, TP Regen, and also an LB with a Heal/Raise isn't stacked in regards to utility how again? In addition, though not as powerful, Mantra. I said our utility is OP, not the LB specifically.

As much as a DPS LB would be easy and nice, there's no point IMO. There are other classes already designated for those positions. The game has to be balanced somewhere otherwise we'd have all the tricks. I would just rather enhance what it seems we were designed to do, and that is act as the glue for the group depending on how the fight progresses.

What would you like to see the BRD LB replaced with then?

I much prefer BRD sharing the Healing LB over the DPS one. There's really nothing more awesome than having both healers get wiped, and watching the Tank and Bard try and survive as long as possible since the BRD can still revive the whole team.


BRD is still a Support class. Songs are a huge part of some team compositions, and Foe's Requiem is significant, especially in parties who like magic.
