PS4 - hard to read small UI elements

I'm getting eye strain trying to read the tiny UI elements on the PS4 version. I have a 32 inch TV and am sitting about 7 feet back from the screen, isn't great but it's fine for every other PS3/PS4 game I've tried.

Not all elements of the UI elements can be controlled by the HUD display options--In particular, the main Options menu and submenus, and the NPC dialog boxes. You can control the font size of the chat box, but that's it.

As it is, I'm not sure I can upgrade to the PS4 version without getting a new TV.

I agree. ive resized the font of the log and the size of the HUD ellements but the NPC dialog box is impossible small to read.
Also the hints and tips boxes that pop up are the same small size as the dialog boxes , its frustrating to read

I dont own a ps4 myself but for now would it be possible to change the video output?

As PS4 is HDMI only, you are somewhat limited. You could downgrade the system output to 720p to make things a little more readable, but then you'd be left with the same cluttered interface that the PS3 has.

sadly you cant change resolution within the game , might be able to change the ps4 resolution but i find that unnecesary as all the other games and the system itself would also change for no good reason

I have trouble to register my account in the PS4 browser that was always in a tiny window in the screen (51" HDTV 1080p)... make it full screen and increase the text.

After the registration I tried to change the options and I needed to wake up and go close to the HDTV to read them * I have good eyes *.

To create the character suck a mess because the text...

All the text are too small unless there are any option to change that... and I think the default could be big... at least twice the size of now.

I was waiting the FFXIV beta to see if I will subscribe to the MMO but after see these terrible UI text I even wanted to stopped to play the game on login screen.

In the UI adjustment screen try using R3 to change the size of elements, at least this works for the pc and ps3 version.

You can change the PS4 to output in 720p but you need to do that everytime you change a game to play.... I want to play aways in 1080p... that´s why I choose PS4 version over PS3 lol
For the beta this workarround is fine but for the final version Square-Enix needs to fix the text size or they will lost a lot of gamers.

You can do that in the login/registration UI... not in the Options UI or NPC UI.

UI is too small, I wont change resolution from 1080p to 720p (as someone said) cause its not a fix to problem. At the same time you could increase size of text in remote play. Below 3 pics from RP Vita

Othervise playing (and remote playing) works nicely. UI is just so small :o

I would like to agree with the sentiments here. I feel like Geordi La Forge with his visor off.

I have pretty bad vision, and I have resized all the UI elements to the biggest level and they are still insanely hard to read on both the PS4 and even PC. Would love a UI zooming tool similar to the one found in World of Warcraft, or fonts like those found in Tales games.

Adding my name to the list. It's almost impossible to read on a relatively normal-sized tv (35") very close up. Perhaps each highlighted ui element could expand when it is being used and shrink back down when we move to another element. The NPC text and tool tips (oh, and the map) definitely need to be adjustable. (I love that FFXIII has an increased text size option. Similar options here [and in all games, really] would be very welcome.)

Add me in as well for larger text, especially for npc dialogue. Had to sit 5 ft. from my tv to make the game playable.

Can't agree more.
The UI probably needs a bigger font.
While the dialogue font of NPC needs at least 2-3 times bigger font.
Otherwise, everything else (at least for me) are done quite well.

I have been having the same problem with mine as well. They should really work in a option to increase the font size to your like and ways of increasing the size of the mini map to your liking as well. Kind of makes it hard to see what I'm supposed to do and such. I hope they read over this and work a fix in.

Same boat, Iv'e resized all Menu UI it is readable now (Click R3 when in that menu). The dialog box and font is so small though also you cannot resize the chatlog only the font. I think you should be able to resize the mini chatlog because expanding it isnt always ideal.

I hate having to sit so close to a 55". The text definitely need to be bigger. Also, the log on the right hand side of the screen needs a transparent background of some sort so that it's readable against light terrain or whatever.

Same here... Although in the HUD layout setting you can adjust the sizes of the elements with R3..
However! The NPC chat boxes and Item information display is too small to read when sitting on the sofa.

Hope they'll fix the size of it and for the rest it seems to be working perfectly. ^_^

Yep, another agree from me.

PS4 version is completely frustrating. 52" 1080p TV and I sit about 8 feet away. My vision is 20/20 but I don't like feeling eye strain while I play games.

Also the PS Vita is basically useless for remote play because of this issue. The text is almost unreadable, especially text that appears in low contrast areas.

This really has to be fixed or the game is just unusable as a released product. It's fine as a beta because most of us in the beta have played on PS3 or PC and probably have level 20 (at least) toons already so the story isn't so relevant but I wouldn't want to show this to anyone new.

Agreed, this is an enormous issue. After playing in the HUD Layout settings it's a little more bearable, but the NPC dialogue is unreadable unless I'm a foot away from my TV.

As others have stated you can increase the font size of the chat box. Not many people know this but you can also resize it -- turn on the virtual mouse (L1 + R3) and you'll see the resize icon in the top right corner of the chat box. Drag that to resize. :)

Are other peoples sizes different from mine? They seem okay for me on my monitor? o.o

Everything related to the PS4 UI needs to be at least 120% compared to current size. This includes the non-adjustable windows like item help, ability help, and NPC dialogue boxes. This is a change that definitely needs to happen in order for the game to be even somewhat playable. The HUD will probably also need adjusted (to fit the resized elements) as a result prior to the second beta phase.

They are that size if you are directly infron of the TV. but most PS4 are in the living room so take into account the distance from the sofa and you wont see a damn thing

I'm in agreement with everyone here, it's unreadable. Will not be subscribing or transferring characters until it is solved. Game on PS4 is gorgeous though, just fix that tiny tiny text please.

This is surprising to me. I had to scale everything down on the PS3, it was just too big, and was the first thing I did when I started the PS4 beta.

Out of curiosity, those of you that are uncomfortable with the UI elements, what previous system are coming from, PC or PS3?

At first I tried to read the NPC's dialogs to immerse myself in Eorzea, now having a headach I just skip all quest's dialogs. Reading on skills or items is also a pain. This realy needs a bigger font to be playable on a TV!

I want to throw in with this as well. The UI, maybe excepting the hotbar, needs to be increased in size by default. Text is especially too small. I sit about 9 feet from a 60" TV and can barely read the text.
