Do you use it? The spell "Presence of Mind". Sure I can clearly see the effects of the spell work, but for 10s and a recast time of 300s, it hardly seems worth it.
When is the best time to use it, if your going to use it?

Not as a trump card, but as a prediction card. Assuming that the raid or person(s) are about to take damage that you want healed fast, or that you want to buff and heal people quickly (like if both healers are taking one tank each and a dps gets hurt).
I think Presence of Mind needs a bit of an adjustment personally. It's helpful no doubt but a lot of people don't use it because it's an extra slot that could be filled with something else. I use it a fair bit just because it helps sometimes, but only sometimes because if people don't get hurt fast enough to compensate for that speed buff then it feels a little wasted (like benedicting someone who has over 50% HP)
I'd like to see a duration increase or cooldown reduction (possibly both) but I wont be mad if they don't change it.
Idk what type of endgame you do but I find PoM very useful during T5 when the second set of snakes spawn our tanks tend to go up and down extremely quickly and the double spell speed has actually saved us from a wipe. I also use it during Ultima when all 4 ships come crashing down with all those lazers you hardly have time to medica everyone so PoM makes it very easy. Imo I would say use it when you know for a fact several pt members will be taking a very large amount of dmg and that extra 2-3 seconds is the difference between someone being dead and everyone being full HP. Just my two cents :x
It's incredibly underwhelming, yes. No point relying on it, but no point in just leaving it to sit there unused. Maybe save it for raises when quickcast is down, otherwise just use it as a far-too-occasional timesaver.
Also soloing it's a DPS boost.
pom quite good in a lot of areas: the snakes in t5 i pop it after the second set of divebombs during the lb to ensure tanks dont die. T4 last phase split heal both tanks. Titan ex during adds phase, ifrit ex last nail phase, making sure tank and pt are alive. Even Pom to res someone.
when used correctly it can be such an amazing skill to have.
I usually only use it in Garuda Ex to pump out a bit more DPS in slow phases where I don't need to heal at all (Stoneskin <3)
Might try it in T5 as a couple in this thread suggested
I like it and think it is very useful...just wish the cooldown was not that long.
I rarely use Presence of Mind. In fact, I often forget I even have it. It is undoubtedly useful in some places (Ultima HM as was mentioned, and I sometimes use it when running WP with my LS to spam Holy a bit faster), but overall, the cooldown is just too long to warrant using it unless you're certain you won't be needing it again for a while.
Learn to cope without it as much as possible really.
recast is way too long. right now it gives the feeling of being an "oh shit someone screwed up and i need to save the day"-skill but by the time you activated it and casted your spells the tank might be dead already. it's nice for reappling some stoneskin on the party though, but a lower recast won't break the skill. especially since you are still limited by your mp as whm.
I think PoM is great, i was going to say i never use it but i realized now, that i use it every time i do coil, and multiple times when i do dungeons, so i actually use it quite often. Its not an O shiz skill, to me its one of the few predictive healing boosts WHM gets, or Burst DPS boost depending on your uses and situation. Work with it, you'll find it terribly handy once you can work it into your play style.
I've used it constantly in very select instances.
- Under-geared for WP speed runs (Specifically large pull just before first boss)
- Over-geared dungeon speed runs (PoM & Holy*4 & Shroud Of Saints)
- BCoB Turn 4, Phase 6 two Dreads (Essential if tank doesn't use skills)
- BCoB Turn 5
PoM is a fantastic skill that can be executed after Divine Seal wears off, and intense healing is still required.
Tank 6,000 HP
Cure II = 1,000 HP
Enemy hits 1,200 HP every 2.5s (GCD)
You either need to heal 20% more per cure II, or need to be faster. If DS is down, PoM is brilliant. Sadly the cooldown is rather long and unforgiving which makes it only usable once per fight typically.
(Can be used multiple times in t5)
Good skill is good!
I don't use it. Effect isn't strong enough, isn't long enough, and cooldown is too long. Three strikes and it's out of my crossbar.
The idea behind PoM is great, it's the ability that needs adjusting. SS every 300 seconds just for 10 seconds? FEELS like this was meant as a hardcore CD, a CD that can be used in a rotation when Divine Seal is up perhaps. Heck, it's the same timer as Benediction, of all things. That's the MMO'er in me, telling me something went overlooked in this ability.
I think lowering the timer (obviously) and adding something else to it is long past overdue. Maybe make it a random chance to increase Det, Crit OR SS? Or even better, have it be a smart ability and let it choose the highest of those 3.
A few weeks ago I replied to a similar thread saying a resounding, "NOPE." But actually, I've found it pretty useful in Coil. I've only done T1-3 (3 hardly counting for much) and in T1, when the snake was on lowish HP post-split I find it useful to help keep the MT up while I wait for the party to LB his target.
I wouldn't say it's a lifesaver or anything, but it's a little helping hand. I don't use it much more than that, though, and since upgrading my gear I've found it less needed.
The point stands whether those exact numbers are correct or not. PoM is the best throughput CD we have save Benediction - while it's up it's a better HPS increase than Divine Seal. Unfortunately it also comes with increased MP costs, an annoyingly long animation that eats into its already meager duration, and a cooldown which is just as long as Benediction. I find it more useful for DPSing than healing, sadly.
I personally find PoM to be a fantastic skill to use, although I agree that the cooldown on it is harsh.
It isn't a particularly good reactive skill, but using it proactively can be a heavensend. My favourite spots to use it are:
- Twintania during the snakes once the limit break has been executed on the entire group of snakes.
- Ifrit Ex on the final nail phase to keep everyone alive through the big nail exploding followed by Ifrits big attack. Especially useful when I have the debuff and cant get in close to use medica / II so have to rely on single target cures and cure III.
- Titan Ex once the adds have been picked up, giving me time to get off extra cures while evading the bombs and landslide.
- Pharos Sirius on Siren if multiple people get the zombie debuff.
- Garuda Ex if you have inexperienced melee who are likely to take Wicked Wheel damage alongside the tanks.
By knowing when to best use it, it's a very powerful ability to get the party out of tight spots.
I'll use it on t4 during last phase just to help out a little and on t5. Ifrit ex if things are a lil shakey around 3rd set of nails. Other than that I think the only place I use it is on titan ex during heart phase to help DPS heart so we get no bombs. I also use to use it for caduceus at split, but w/ so much more gear now it's not really needed. Could definately use either some tweaking or reduced timer. As most people say, it can help but it's USUALLY not a wipe saver in the same way that benediction is, but on the same CD.
Sadly my biggest use of it is to stoneskin the party. I do also use it for the snakes on Twintania (since we have a solo tank grabbing everything and tanking with 4 stacks on) and for occasions when I can throw in some dps such as Wave 4 on Turn 4 for some holy spam.
I have it macro'd in with Divine Seal. If it fires off great, if not, oh well. I'd love to get more use out of this ability but it just feels, as others have said, underwhelming.
I do use it to stoneskin everyone at the beginning of a dungeon though.
This is the only use I've found for it really, get 3 more heals thrown around atleast but yes the cooldown needs to be lowered.... just wish i could glue some crap potions to the macro as well

I typically use it whenever I could on healing intensive battles. PoM + DS along help aoe heals go a lot better.
I am a WHM on the cusp of 40 and I haven't gotten to end game yet. For my stance, I find it very underwhelming in multiple avenues. The cooldown is way too long for what is honestly very little effect. If you are going to have the cd be 5 minutes and the duration to be a piddly 10 sec, then why not make your spells cast, near instant. Currently it takes my roughly 2.5 sec Stone 2 cast time down to about 1.5-2 sec. Sure in a game of sec, every little bit helps, but if it's going to keep the high cd and low duration, make it send you into overdrive. how about a 0.5 sec cast time for all your spells. That would be awesome. And feel really cool to be able to fire off a slew of spells. If not, then the cd definitely needs to come down or the duration needs to go up or both. It doesn't give you that much of a benefit for all the drawbacks it has. I was severly disappointed when I used the skill and found how underwhelming it was.
Since Divine Seal has a rather big animation, it is difficult to fit both PoM and DS in the same GCD.
I very rarely use it for anything other than DPS, I'm a det stacker with little spell speed so I don't get a huge amount out of it in the first place. Plus it's tendency to interrupt a heal cast immediately after hitting that PoM button has me really rather hesitant to use it as an emergency cooldown, I've been burned by that one more than I'd like.
I actually needed PoM the other day. A YOLO pull, tank was taking massive damage very fast. With PoM, I was able to pop divine seal and cast regen and medica 2 fast enough the tank didn't die. That gave me the boost I needed to keep him alive, though I still needed to spam cure 2. So, while I do wish PoM was more available, I am glad it's there.
I main SCH, but have taken to opting for WHM in some cases like Ifrit Ex. I find PoM to be helpful when raid curing during nails (when other healer is giving off stink waves).
The duration is way too short on it for me to bother keeping it on my bar. Any time where I would have used it is better spent pre-casting the spell it would have sped up. Can't use it as a life-line button because it has some animation lag. Honestly its very poorly designed. If its going to have such a long recast, it needs to last longer.
Had a party earlier where everyone died except me, the other white mage, and a tank in ifrit ex. This was due to an accidental searing wind from other healer. What made it worse was that it was end of 3rd nail phase. So we had to swifcast a tank, swift a dps, then hardcast raise, also dodge eruption since they went to me from everyone being dead. We raised, we fought, and won before enrage. Presence of mind comes in handy there :) (other healer used it, i 4got it existed while i was raising lol).
Rare moment, but they happen, and they are epic when u overcome them.
