This could definitely be cool. They would just need to be prepared for the inevitable flood of people who complain they didn't get to participate for whatever reason.

While I think it would be better, the game would still feel like a giant lobby you stand around in while waiting for instances to pop. As it is now. If the game had more emphasis on needing to travel I think it would be great.

Oh how I miss the days of riding seamlessly into a dungeon with a guild to do a raid. Instancing has taken a lot of the fun out of MMOs...

I just wish they'd extend the chocoporter range so I'd have more reason to see these nice looking zones.

Ever since I've hit fifty I haven't seen the outside of towns in months.

People are all itchy for new zones but I say that even the current ones need more reasons to exist before they start adding more areas. We HAVE land, plenty of it. No go put stuff to do in there plz.

I'd be ok with it but tbh opposed to getting it up and running again wouldn't mind some big community quest where WHM uncover the teleport spells (like XI) have like 1 teleport per region.

I don't use my mounts I walk/sprint everywhere. But here's the thing....I don't need to go any where ._. all anyone needs to do is stand in Toll then one day out the week walk to Wineport.

No thanks. I have enough of a time sink just getting through the daily stuff. a bunch of boring travel time and I wouldn't have the time to do the things I want to do.

i think it would be interesting if the weather affected the crystals.

ie. severe thunderstorms- the powers out and crystals dont work

or something along them lines

That was my reaction too when I realized I had made a horrible error... HE COULD GET HIT AND HEAVIED THUS INCREASING HIS TRAVEL TIME BY AS MUCH AS 20 SECONDS!


Sorry OP but in light of this 5 min 20 second travel time To get from one end of a continent to the other I have to disagree with this idea.

Imagine the horror if they made airship travel a thing like in XI... You would be forced to, gasp, WAIT on an airship and you may even be HARASSED by those pesky players also waiting to have a CONVERSATION!

Better idea, no more atherite and to get queued in the DF you have to register at the dungeon entrance.

As long as it only affected players with level 50s it would be cool but I remember the annoyance of running around before getting my mount a few months ago doing the opening quests. Yeah if there wasn't a teleport system in place I would have strait up never got past the opening parts of the game. It would just be brutal on new players without teleports and without mounts.

Well, the OP's idea is that there will be a worldwide event to restore the teleports after whatever event takes them down.

Stone ages of travel? So having far bigger maps, having no mounts of any sort, and having teleports cost so much that they weren't worth doing unless it was absolutely necessary? No airships, the ferry was an actual 5 minute boat ride (and showed up in real time, so if you just missed it you were waiting five minutes for one of the two ferries to come back and get you), and don't forget the level 55+ mobs (easily up to level 99, and they weren't even that far from starter areas).

Been there. It was 1.0 before patch 1.18 gave us Chocobos. There's a reason most of us older players have at least one gathering job leveled up. Back then we had skills that increased our run speed if far enough away from a node :P.

5 minutes of time sink that would be completely useless and arbitrary, so yeah. No thanks.

How about these ideas?

- Put in a 30 minute CD for dungeons once you complete one. You have to stay logged in or the duration doesn't count down.

- Make it to where crafting takes 10 minutes per item. If you make a HQ item, your character gets locked into a victory dance that last for an additional 10 minutes.

- Make there be one central MB/Retainer area that can only be accessed by traveling to each corner of the world and clicking a special node on each. You then get to travel to the direct center and enter the special, super duper market board area. You then have 5 minutes to do your business before being ejected. After a 24 hour CD, you can restart from scratch.

- Make it to where you can be knocked off your chocobo easily and enemies never stop chasing you.


These sound good? I mean, time sinks are good, am I right?

Do it like FFXI conquest. Weekly tallies of item turn-ins, quests, FATEs, etc. per Grand Company per camp. 1st place GC for each camp gets reduced teleport fees to that camp for that week, 3rd place gets increased fees. Camps that don't get enough action to be claimed can't be teleported to.

Doing the treasure maps a few times I've said "Wow. I forgot how pretty this area is." While it was a massive pain in the junk sometimes, the limited teleports per day thing was actually sort of cool back in 1.0

They weren't even that limited near the end. If you made friends with a fisher, young indigo herrings could come up ten fish to the catch. A stack of those would give nearly the max amount of anima. My shellmates were never in want of anima because I kept the young indigo herring coming, and the hamlets always wanted them.

I've still got 56 stacks of the damned things on my retainer.

30 min lockout on dungeons? sure why not there is no reason to spam them in the world of "do 4 dungeons a week to max everything!

Mobs never stop chasing? The term "train" was used in MMOs for a reason.

10 minutes per item? Sure this one would actually increase the value and make it so not everyone and their mother maxed all crafts and crashed the economy

So the only one you proposed that would actually be dumb (which was sadly your attempt with all of these) would be the MB idea. Though 1 market zone where all commerce must be done in the player economy? Sure.

No. WHMs in XIV do not thematically fit with teleportation magic. THMs are a better fit, because they already have a short-ranged teleport.

That said, such a change would be forcing every single player to level THM, even if they have no interest in the class, if they didn't want to be bled dry by the people who did have it leveled charging people way more than what they'd have to pay if nothing changed. And even if I did have THM leveled and wanted to get money from the people that didn't, I don't wanna be a fucking taxi all day. I was a WHM in XI and being a tele-taxi was somewhat profitable but boring as hell and took up a lot of time that I could have been using to do something actually fun.

I realize some of these have been a thing, which is why I included them. Games have evolved and play time isn't what it used to be for a lot of people. I log in for a few hours per night and I rarely ever have enough time to do all of the things I want to do. People with seemingly endless amounts of time need to stop trying to add in useless time sinks like these that literally serve no purpose. The Dailies and Daily roulettes are an example of time sinks that serve a purpose. Making people spend time traveling from place to place serves no purpose what so ever other than to waste their time.

And besides that, no one is stopping you from wasting your own time. If you want to boycott teleporting, have at it.

When I started this game I discovered all area's (with a few exceptions end game dungeons and coil...etc.) by running around. I actually leveled my armorer this way from 41-44ish maybe 45.

And it was grand and beautiful. Now I just use my Choco and really the only time I teleport is when I do Coil, or use the "return" (does that one even count?)

But I enjoy the scenery and the music, I actually turned my choco music off so I could enjoy the sounds/noises/music :D

-HAVING SAID THAT- I disagree with OP. The way we have it now is best of both worlds..."you choose" to teleport, and "I choose" to Choco/Run :)

Hmm, that had already happened during the calamity. The old aetheryte network was totally destroyed and a company from Ul'dah rebuilded it (the reason why teleport cost now gil).
All the Aetheryte you see now ingame are not older than 5 years (Eorzea time).

I didn't care about money and others didn't as well we just wanted to get though the story quests. The game sends you back to Horizon like every other quest during some parts of the story. I and a lot of other people got so sick of traveling from Horizon to Vesper Bay just to get to the Waking Sands that we all questioned why there wasn't just an aetherctye in Vesper Bay. If new players had to travel from the somewhere in the Shroud or La Noscea back to Gridania and Limsa respectively take an airship back to Ul'dah then travel west to Vesper Bay then travel all the way back to their location to continue their quest then to only have to head back to Horizon again in a few quests there would be so much rage. That's not enjoyable that's just tedious.

That works if you had a homepoint but if the athercytes were down you wouldn't have a homepoint to travel back to so they would still need to travel to Limsa pay to go to Vesper Bay, pay to go back to Limsa(or walk back) then travel back to where they were questing. Still a lot of tedious traveling for new players.

Indeed, the main story was written with all the teleporting in mind. I'll always prefer one big journey to 10 fetch quests that end up taking the same amount of time though. :/

I would flat out quit if teleporting was removed. Too many quests have you running laps around the world as-is, along with almost every event. Auto-run + alt-tab doesn't make for a fun game.

If there is no teleporting then there is no homepoint.

But where would we return to when we die?!

SE should let mobs take over certain spots like camps if enough / certain FATEs fail, like when all the Aevis are swarming Dragonhead, players should then have to take back the camp by fighting the mobs off before anyone on the server can teleport to or from there, or use the amentities, could also increase the number of adds around the camp and have other damaging effects to the other areas of the map

Not a fan of this idea, as I travel between all three main city-states multiple times a day, depending on what I am doing. If it took that much effort to travel between them, I would probably do one or two things a day and then not play until I felt like traveling again, which could take a while. I think SE would end up losing subs.
