Elemental Materia 1-4, Stat materia, repairing

Why is there no real use for elemental materia? We have a chance at converting items and getting a different element from each piece. But once we have the materia the only real use for it, is to stick it an item being planned to be converted. Just wondering why this part of the game that has been around so long has never seen a real use, other then simply destruction. These end game fights could be using the rank 4 elements with the implement of attaching materia to items you acquire that do not have slots available. Although it would take some minor tweaking giving everything different values to make a more positive productive role for such an overlooked creation.

In example adding sockets to allagan, mythology items, even darklight just tweaking to where you could only stick elemental materia into them giving them a more justified means of use. Making monsters as well as bosses more challenging and diverse given elemental moves.

You would then have to change out your gear so to speak re-slotting materia for every fight. Creating a much more challenging fight. I see this element in the game and its just not being used. Is there a reason for this?

As of now its just if you can get a certain ilvl you can beat this or that so to speak. There's really no serious in depth complexity to any fight other then get that piece of gear and your "A' ok!" to beat it. Think about it for a minute. You first generate a new value for something that was seen as junk making it wanted, creating a market for it. Making these crafters wanting to craft. People wanting to break down and convert items. I mean I could go on with the stated materia as well. Although that has more of a use then to just stick it in a piece of craft and convert faster. How long has that stuff been around and you can't really do anything with it?

I sincerely do not mean to poke holes or make any type of digs through this post. Just want answers on why, what, when, where, how come?
I play every series this franchise produces.

Again was this something that was just overlooked or this idea was never even thought of?

I was creating a spreadsheet to compare everything known to a blackmage, leatherworker, and weaver. With all 3 of these classes, and jobs I see the same huge possibility of making this stuff more useful! Some things can just be over looked until you get the numbers in front of you and go "WOW!" what happened to this part of my favorite game to date?

You can't add more Intelligence to this item because it does not have a slot for materia. When crafting becomes outdated due to the Vanya's ilvl you sit there and just marvel at something that has extreme potential that's been sitting in front of you this entire time. But for now you realize the time you've spent leveling these crafts have become a soon to be void. We even have the ability it states under every item to repair it, yet in a dungeon we cannot repair it with the given leveled craft and items at hand.

There will always be a use for the rank 3 materias you use for relics, an idea like I've stated would expand upon that giving everything a broader more refined feel.
I realize this is a lot to read.

This had to be broken up into so many different posts due to the one thousand limit I exceeded when trying write this up.

You can edit your first post to get past the 1k character limit, and they have said many times that crafted gear was never meant to be more powerful than it's current item level, so basically crafted gear is just incomplete gear until you put materia in it to bring it up to par with dungeon gear of that level, materia just lets you customize your secondary stats on that gear. It's just right now we can only craft up to ilvl 70 stuff, but can kill stuff for or buy ilvl 90 stuff, so crafting gear isn't really an option for endgame right now, they have made their materia system really disappointing.

I don't think you even comprehend where I was taking this. This is not a rant. Nor a jest by any measure. This was a statement I was trying to make to get answers on WHY you can not add materia to these high end pieces of gear. They implemented a means to do so through the secret technique taught to you by the same quest giver that allows you to meld materia. But you are unable to do so.

When you are in a dungeon bashing your head in learning a fight so to speak, you spend ALOT of time soaking up just learning. Why can't you repair right then and there?

Rank 4 materia for elements has 0 use for this game. You can stick it in something and convert it. Or hey that craftable armor you mentioned could use some fire resist IV. Now if you did this you would neglect all of your stats you would be wanting that crafted piece for because its value to YOU is in where the materia slots are, how many it can hold.
I wont even begin to argue with you with over something outdated now and not even a viable means to use in progression.
There is just no point.

What am I asking is WHY there is no use for these pixels I see when I log on and search a market board. Or if I get lucky enough to convert for one. For what to ultimately just use for a conversion or a retainer inventory holding spot? Just so we're on the same page I'm talking about the rank 4 still.
Yes it is VERY disappointing to see one of the CORE features for a game series that has been around since Gameboy was thought about, to date now where we have all of this awesomeness of computer science and technology at our disposal. EVEN 3D!
From one to the current series whether it was in the game or was not, there has been a use for materia other then to sit in your inventory, or just destroy.

I could care less if its sole use was to feed a chocobo to make it red or green. But for sheer destruction?! This is why I loved this series, every couple of games they switch things around but keep the old things we know and love. I could list every character that they have brought back from every other Final Fantasy game but wont. You need to experience that nostalgia for yourself. It's like playing the same game you gave up so many years ago for the new one on the shelf now but while the nostalgia effects still happening your being blown off your seat with all this new stuff. When you head stops spinning and you slowly get near that peak of end game you realize a hole or tear in it with emptiness and that awesome feeling you have of playing the game gets smashed. Your now going holy S$@! man this is the first Final Fantasy game that implemented materia, and dropped the ball with certain aspects of the materia where it has no fundamental interactions with its players.

From 1-49 they get ALL the credit in the world for making use of these elemental materia. I started as a Blackmage, leveled it up and had a blast! When I moved to Paladin I'm thinking in my head, man I bet no body even slots that gear for fire resist, or ice resist to take less damage taking pressure off my group instead of being hit like a truck.
My point is it just fell off the map when you 50. You can't affix your stuff to even prepare for the awesome battles your going to face whenever you log in. Gardua as we all know SO very well holds the throne for wind damage. For titan being either a non-elemental or rock elemental based on which FF game at hand your playing. Ifrit the god of fire, searing flames engross him and every movement he takes scorching earth or air smoldering it.

Maybe now hopefully you can comprehend where I am coming from.

I can see someone put A-LOT of thought into this game and it seems they lost track or started something new expanding upon it but never really finishing it or polishing the idea so to speak. For me I would rather enjoy this nostalgic feeling then be rushed with content I still am trying to learn. If I could wish, having only one wish mind you....... it would be to make sure everything is finished completely thought out completely before venturing off into the next super world they come out with. Can we seize the day and do both?

I would have liked elemental materia to have seen greater output as well. As it stands, even with crafted i55 or i70 equipment socketed with resistances, the damage reduction is quite minimal. Couple this with high quality elemental ward potions and you start to see the benefits of elemental resistance for 15 seconds.

The 2.0 philosophy observed so far emphasizes accessibility and reward via dungeons over forcing players to not only have a certain level of gear, but also having customized it a certain way as well (e.g. elemental resistances). Let's say that i90 gear could affix only an elemental materia to it, this would cause a disturbance for folks who want to optimize (or party find) with people ready for Ifrit or ready for Ramuh. Not a tank with lightning resist on the i70/80/90+, party doesn't want you.

Re: forbidden melding, I understand that the game has lore as to how a player can do it, but from what I've found so far, not necessarily an in-game reason on why we can't meld INT to an INT robe. But I imagine that even if the lore isn't present in game, the out of game reasons will find ways to manifest itself into Hydaelyn and we still won't be able to stack materia beyond what the iLevel allows.

And at this time, SE has made known their desire to keep melded crafted items as nothing more than a stepping stone to the dungeon drops. The idea of not being able to buy the best gear via gil.

As much as I would like to see elemental materia be of more use or crafted gear to be more useful in the long run, it seems like we as players may be left less sated in those areas.

To partially respond to this, I'm sure you've noticed already that trying to repair ANY piece of gear as a DoW will give you the error message that " The (item) can only be repaired by a(n) (DoH) ". The 3 workarounds to this issue that I can think of are :
1) SE implement some sort of a Class Quest or level given Trait that will allow repairing equipment without actually needing to set your class to that DoH
2) Allow changing jobs inside dungeons (terribly doubt this one will happen)
3) Repairing prior to entering a dungeon. I've never actually seen/heard of players so bad that they can use 100% of their durability in 90 minutes, so this should work
100% of the time if done immediately prior. If not, starting a dungeon with above 70% has always been adequate from my personal experience.

They have trivialized elements, but that doesn't mean elemental materia should be totally trivial. If elemental materia gave A LOT of resist maybe it wouldn't be so trivial? You could meld your extra gear that isn't SB, but isn't you highest ilv to help you learn the primals!

The stat caps are a ridiculous and bad idea to begin with. I can understand them not wanting to make socketed gear better than non-socketed gear of the same item level, but they could have just made the differences in stats between the two groups greater.
