Can I add my current copy of PC on Steam? As official steam game, or I have to buy again trough steam?
i want to know that too :)
I would as well be interested in this, I just noticed.
I know steam games that you purchased out of steam can be usually added if you have the product key, but the product key has to be steam-compatible. I'm just waiting to see what's it going to be with A Realm Reborn. So far I believe it is not compatible. I tried and could not add.
I would like to know as well, I want to add it to my steam account, but not enough to drop another $15 just to do it >.>
Well SE has to make steam keys for existing accounts a priority. They've done it for other games.
Wait.. FFXIV is coming to steam?
O.o Ohmygosh, will current game holders need to re-purchase to be able to get it on steam?(most likely) Or will they flag all existing keys to work in steam?(probably not)
I would LOVE to have it on steam to track my house, screenshots, and talk to my friends via steam overlay..
Just noticed the big ole news post on steam and on ffxiv that it's now on steam, and that current account holders won't get a steam code since buying it from steam is essentially a new account, sooo.. No ffxiv steam for me. Back to using "non steam game" option. To bad it doesn't record my play hours..
That's bullsh** and SE knows it. It still uses the launcher, which requires a login. There's no reason they can't give retail owners a modified Steam key.
Example: You buy any other MMO on Steam and they let you download your game, and then email you your registration code to create your account with the actual MMO developers and activate your account:
Game Unlocked in Library
Registration Code Emailed/Given via Steam clipboard
There's NO REASON why SE couldn't give us a steam key that grants us access to downloading the game to our Steam Libraries, just without the email that sends you a registration code for your new account/game time:
Game Unlocked in Library
Maybe they are afraid that we can give these keys to someone who does not have the game
What I'm saying is there's no reason they can't work with Valve to provide two different types of keys.
Steam Key 1: Steam Purchase. Game is unlocked and you get your SE FFXIV Registration Code along with your purchase. This would be for people who purchase over Steam.
Steam Key 2: Current Retail Subscribers: Game Unlocked in Steam Library. No Registration Code sent.
New buyers would get Steam Key 1, we'd get Steam Key 2. Login would still work the same via the launcher.
Indeed. It's very disrespectful from SE. Some people already rebought the game, just to have it officially in your Steam Library. And these people do not even received 30 days of sub in your current SE acc.
I am a huge Steam user and I want this. There is no reason why we shouldn't be given Steam keys, and there is no reason SE can't.
I was very excited when I heard this was coming to Steam, and very happy when I saw it on there today. Now I am told I can't link my accounts, and I am told that if I rebuy it I won't even get a month of subscription. That is a pretty low move. :(
I'm going to say I want this as well. I slapped ARR onto Steam when I first installed it, but it was unofficial, just like adding League of Legends or any other unconnected game to Steam. I'd like to make it more formal if possible.
You can play with your current acc, its the same launcher. But you cant add the new purchase as months or give the key to some friend. You need to pay just to put the game into your Steam Library! Thats a shame.
I hope SE do something this time, since they did nothing when FFVII launched on Steam and many users bought the game for PC twice.
I feel awful.
I recently got a copy of FFXIV for free via a new graphics card purchase, which is wonderful. But I talked my friend into buying to play with me, and he finally did just last night. Had he waited another 8 hours he could've saved $5 AND gotten the collector's edition :\
Was there any sort of hint about this going on before it dropped?
In a Reddit post, it was mentioned that one of SE's reps will be forwarding the fact that Steam does offer keys to MMOs that have migrated there to use on pre-purchased accounts. So patience! We may get them soon :D
Would be nice to hear an official response about this soon. I'm one of those few rare people who would drop another 15 to have it in my STEAM library... but not another 30. Would be nice to know before it goes off sale.
if i buy this on steam can i copy my ffxiv files into the steam folder....i really dont want to waste my internet on downloading this again :(
