probably on server side. I'm getting it too.
Im from adamantoise, cant connect, the game just gives 5006 error and closes out

Happened to me too. Can't connect. Prior to this, about 1/3 of the characters on my screen got red-dotted then I lost connection.

I was in the middle of a quest when I got 90k'd and now have the 5006.
I am not looking forward to the swarm of mobs when I get back in. QwQ
Myself and an fc mate had the exact same problem simultaneously on NA Diabolos.
Same here, Diabolos server. Haven't been able to log in yet today... looks like i get effed out of my daily roulette.

Hyperion here. I was in the middle of The Thousand Maws of Toto-rak doing my low level duty roulette when I first got 90k. Tried logging back in several times and I get either 5006 or 6001.

i got this too
just logged out to switch to another character and got booted out by error 5006. now I get it every time after entering password and clicking Play, if the Data center I select is Aether (I'm from Balmung). Swapping to a japanese datacenter (Gaia, I have an alt on Zeromus) didn't give me any issue.
Edit: After logging in the Japanese server and going back out to the main menu, I was able to access the Aether data center and then log on Balmung successfully.
Sarg here. Getting hit with this error and the 9k error constantly. Was in the middle of doing BRD AF quests too =(
i get this when i dont have work today.. and maintenance on primetime too.. =(

I had this issue and after reading comments, i too connected to a character i had made on jp servers during beta. I was then able to connect first try.
Attempted to login on server Faerie and was greeted with Error 5006 as well. Tried multiple times with the same result.
EDIT: After 5th attempt, I was able to get in.

I think today they will begin the maintenance earlier lol

Same here! logged out to change to my main. now i cant get back in
ok update even though i logged in as soon as i started doing anything i crashed, so meh.
same here logged in just now dc now same error guess will try later.
Now works fine, i can log in normaly
