As long as you get some forums of your own so you stay over there.
That would be awesome. Transfer pl0x!
As much as I would probably enjoy it, there's no way it would happen. The lore in 1.0 just doesn't mesh with the job and quest lore in ARR. SE would have to spend resources dedicating part of the staff to developing the 1.0 lore which would take away from ARR's development. Also, the original game ran on a completely different server structure that simply doesn't exist anymore at SE.
That aside, I would be a little surprised if they saved anything from 1.0 aside from the models.
Hmm...i don't think a big company like SE would just get rid of stuff they worked so hard on, at the very least i would think they would archive it for future reference, I don't know the inner workings of SE or anything just my speculation.
and i agree with you it would take too much resources and capital to reintroduce the 1.0 version.
this, this so much
and dont forget the engine from 1.0 as awesome as it looked. my old pc (which can run THIS without issues, if I would bother) almost shat itself with the first Cut Scene. Every move in ulda'h and I had the feeling my pc gonna hurl any moment. A reason why all I did til i got my newer PC was chatting and no progression :(
In dream world, I would love for there to be a 1.xx server with its serious flaws taken care of so I can experience it for myself. With the way veterans have spoken about it, that version sounds like the game I should be playing.
My old pc at the time couldn't handle it, playing the game as a slide show was impossible, i think i only played like a few days of the beta and just hit the uninstall button at the end...it was such a horrible experience, unlike ARR right now which i love so far.
Yeah, it would be cool. That way, we could do Ifrit, Garuda, and DD/Vale runs all day until we have full DL gear!
I got my new pc 2 month before the final death throws of 1.0
While it still felt clunky as hell, it was awesome. The CS where Nael fires his Gunblade Lance at you still is very vivid in my memory. The preceding "Ifrit Bleeds" battle was, in my memory, way more crazy than Ifrit Bleeds + HM in ARR.
Never was able to see garuda, but it took the people of my server quite long till the first clear. And I got told, she was way harder than Garuda HM and EX.
Some things are better left dead. But just look at Hildibrandt, dead became him well!
They actually were going to keep the servers up depending on how many people logged on to say they wanted to keep it. Due to the data, was not enough people who wanted it.
~This. I actually logged in pretty much every day the 1.0 servers were back on for that month and a bit at the end of 2012, and I only ever saw like two or three other people on my server - in fact one time I did a search and I was literally the only one logged into Ridill.
Most 1.0 players didn't bother logging back in because nothing they did was going to carry through to ARR, hence they felt there was no point in having the servers back, especially those players who had already done everything available in 1.0.
I admit I'd love to see the 1.0 servers brought back though, but more for sentimental value (and no, I'm not one of the '1.0 is better than ARR' brigade) - I'd just like to play it again for old time's sake.
When I first got the game, this is what it looked like at the settings I was able to play it at. Even with this there was lag.
(Note: this is not actually my screenshot, but it is exactly what the game used to look like.)

Around 1.18 I got a new computer, so I started playing again then, but even then it was a budget machine so at best I was using the standard setting. The frustrating thing about 1.x was that the standard setting was pretty much what should have been low, since anything less than standard was a significant downgrade in quality. Especially pixelation of not only the environment, but the nameplates. I mean why even release a game with a supported graphics setting that results in the text being illegible and most environmental features indistinguishable? Even FFXI looked better at minimum settings than that did.
And that's not even talking about the slow as molasses UI. Opening up a merchant's store interface or your retainer could easily take up to 30 seconds, especially if you were in the Ul'dah which was the hub equivalent of today's Revenant's Toll. Probably the biggest derp I've ever encountered in a public release of a game.
lol @ hipsters
They actually did keep them up, because the survey met Yoshi's minimum response for that. Iirc the final save was at the end of September or beginning of October, which is when they would have shut down, but they kept the servers live due to the responses on the survey. They were then shut down in November because not enough people were actually playing. I.e. the player base didn't put their money where their mouths were.
Allow me the spill ARR's dirty little secret: the real reason FFXIV was rebuilt was because 1.x was complete incapable of running on the PS3, which was vital to salvaging the game. It would have been much easier to optimize the existing game client (both graphically and network-wise) and just build a new server infrastructure, but even at minimum settings it would have given the PS3 a seizure.
I really wish they had done the latter. The graphics in 1.x were better by an order of magnitude.
So if it was that unpopular, it's rather selfish of the OP to expect SE to make a terrible business decision and continue funding a server that won't make them money.
And yes, a very significant portion of the JP players are PS3 users. The PS3 cannot handle those graphics.
Much as I would enjoy being able to see the old world, copy/paste and all, I have the distinct feeling they scrapped it.
This is the same company that lost all the original assets from Kingdom Hearts. A game that actually sold very very well.
Though they obviously are still using most of the assets from 1.0, I can't imagine they held on to all the stuff that made 1.0 work.
Omg how could i forget the slow UI, it was frustrating to see that such a beautiful looking game could be in the state it was in, i don't quite remember at what settings i played at during the beta but i do know my screenies from that time don't look anything like the pic you posted so i must have been playing at a higher setting than standard, i refused to play it at a lower setting because really the game was just too beautiful to look at in a lower res, here's a few screenie of two of my old toons during the beta.
Found this npc dialogue just too funny

Never happening from SE.
Btw there is a 1.0 emulator out there.. That's all I will say.
Does that data even exist any more lol or do you think it was over written and or deleted.
SE can add at least if not 1.0 server , but patch , something like WotG in FFXI , that will allow players to teleport 5 years ago (to 1.0 events) and play "Legacy story/quests/events" happened there . --> Devs please look forward into it XD
If you had the server up and running, you wouldn't be so enthusiastic about playing it then. How do I know this? Everyone complains a bout a lack of content.
well i miss the old game also and would reinstall the game for that but i guess it will stay uninstalled time to move to next game.
those tails in those pics, man i miss them. Non clippy tail i long for you again.
