It's pretty common in MMORPG's for people to duo box. I use to do it in EQ, EQ2, and FFXI. I was just wondering if anyone duo boxes in this game and if so what classes?

No one could dual-box any battle of consequence in this game even 10% effectively. I'm sure you could program some manner of heal bot (if you are interested in getting banned) but given the sheer amount of dodge mechanics in the game it would become apparent very quickly that someone was trying to pull double duty. The entire battle system is built on movement/positioning/timing to optimize effectiveness which would mean operating two controllers/keyboards simultaneously, which unless you have four arms I don't see it happening.
Yes people do, just not in a dungeon.
Just earlier today I had someone in a Fate grind group claim to be dual-boxing. It was their excuse for dying. In a full Fate group.
Which says a lot about dual-boxing.
People run light dungeons on the same PC or PC+Laptop/PS3+Laptop(PC). No one will answer directly as it will get them banned, though. Most utilize bots though that, incidentally is tied with XIVAPP for notifications.
Well I am not interested in botting, I just thought maybe duo boxing could be done for some kind of farming. Like running a tank/healer setup.
You can and here is how http://support.jp.square-enix.com/fa...5&id=5382&la=1
There is nothing to farm in this game of merrit. There is no market to milk.
About the only use I can see for it would be to mine two gold ore nodes at once but you can do that with alt characters. Just log your miner alts out on a node. Then when its time to mine it, log them in, mine it, log out, log in next one, mine it again.
In ffxi it was great because you could dual box a rdm and a tank and kill just about any NM in the open world. You could farm anything too.
There are no NM's in FFXIV and anything worth farming at all is worth 100gil at most and adding a 2nd character isn't going to speed it up any, I can clear all the mob camps in this game before they respawn by myself so no point.
2 characters on 1 controller, playing the same job like BLM for example, I can do at least 50%-80& effeciency, usually just missing procs. Not saying its easy, but much better than your 10% estimate :D .
I used to do 2 keyboards at once for 2 characters for blm in 1.0, it was much easier then due to long cooldowns for casts.

I dual box to transfer items to/from my mules on another account. As a massive hoarder and heavy crafter, I rely heavily on the extra storage that having extra characters provide, and it's more convenient for several reasons to have them on a secondary account (I just used the friend pass from my original 1.0 game for that). I don't do things on them both at the same time much (just run from/to bell/moogle on one char, bring up the other window, do the same things on that char, transfer items, send mule home) but it's nice not having to log out of my main character to fetch something on a mule. Definitely couldn't fight or gather or craft on 2 characters at once any faster than on one, not that co-ordinated and currently only playing on a single screen so only able to see one copy of the game at any one time anyhow.
Please note that I do not use any botting programs or external/hardware macros or anything else like that. Those illegal activities are in no way connected to dual boxing but some people make the assumption that if you're on two characters at once you must be botting or RMT'ing ~_~
I'm just a normal player doing normal crafting/gathering/etc the good old fashioned way, but I happen to do it several times and be very slow XD My main character had plenty of 50s in 1.xx but I haven't even set foot in CT/Coil because I'm still relearning stuff, that's how slow I am XD But yay for crafted gear!
But then I jump on a mule and have to outfit him and get his levels up and do his quests to do the valentine event on all 3 cities, and there's another in Uldah that needs to get to Limsa to start the Lightning event, and... Oh why did I ever make so many mules... And why are all the events relying on level 15ish quest locked inter city transport >_<
Have barely touched my main char this week because these lowly mules need to get up to travelling status to get a new hair cut or a romantic outfit. And yes, I know they don't need it, but some of them have real personalities and back stories and they have their own reasons why a lovely maid outfit or a bandanna haircut would be very good for them!
The horse heads though? That's one thing I didn't need to hoard across every character, ew >_>
i am thinking of leveling a new character on a new account, while the alt toon on my main's account is farming CT for spiritbond.
