Does fatigue have a purpose?

Now i know what the team said about preventing excess grinding but why am i penalized for wanting to level a class? Since the game is like a b2p beta right now i don't complain much but if i was paying for it why am i forced to stop having fun? Maybe i missed something but would love if this was explained to me if there is some sort of bonus involved(and if the bonus is worth it).

I think they need to just drop the fatigue system all together. It's a pain and it's not gonna stop anyone from continuing to grind on that particular class.

I'm in favor of removing the fatigue system and increasing sp/exp requirement by a % based on the average surplus from fatigue.

Its the same system as WoW's Rested XP its just named wrong and they never fixed it.

Agree the fatigue system needs to go.

It's because of the bad press on things from FFXI like 18 hour Pandemonium Warden fights.

SE got heat in the media for outrageous time commitments in their MMO, so they designed a system in their new game to force either horizontal progression (if you want to play 8 hours a day) or make people play less.

Experience tells them that even if they have warning saying "don't play too much!" that people don't listen and they have to mother their players. It's a foolish think to think, but it is what it is.

Did any of you think that if they did remove it that we'd all be stuck at earning SP at the same rate we earn it when we are "Fatigued" if you think of that as being the "Base" rate in WoW when un-reset and Non-Fatigue as rested its the same damn system

Then it should be fixed then because in WoW you get rested xp when you log out or sit inside of town. They don't take away a % of xp from you because you are leveling a class too long. Instead they allow those who take breaks an easier time to catch up by giving them a bonus to make it more casual friendly.

So if SE lower sp gains by 30% then gave you a 30% rested bonus which slowly decays to 0% bonus as you play would that really make it better?

It sounds like people want rested bonus 100% of the time.

The system is in place to entice players to level more than 1 class.

Because the game launched with a dearth of content, they presumably implemented the fatigue system so that the least number of people would hit 50 and then say, "What else is there to do?"

I was with the shell that did the 16 hr PW fight, on Siren with Priceless LS. It was redundant and crazy ; ;
but the game is mostly run by "hardcore" players....

And people need to stop making the same topics over and over. . .

Yes they do actually the numbers are in different Categories but the end result is the same

Character logs on Rested. Gains 100% XP "While Rested" Character becomes Unrested/Fatigued/losesrested status, Character now receives "50%" XP

If you consider Rested XP 100% XP and Unrested XP as a loss of total possible XP gain which it is, the systems are the same. WoW's just sounds prettier because instead of using the numbers 100% and 50% they used 200% and 100% but the result is exactly the same

If you do not XP a while you get a status that gives X Experience and if you level too long it wears off and you gain X-50% xp.

The system quite obviously has a purpose. The question is whether that purpose is effectively pursued with a system like this.

ok ok now im starting to see how it is now. I was confused for awhile from reading about it online, people talking about it in ffxi, and actually experiencing it myself.

I normally do not agree with you, but this is essentially right on the money. I'd rather have it our current way, with maybe a slight adjustment as to when surplus starts.

Except FFXIV you lose more SP the longer you play. You can actually get down to 0 SP. Its NOT the same as WoW. WoW gives you rested XP and Normal XP. Normal XP is exactly that, the normal amount. You wont lose anymore XP for playing longer. FFXIV surplus LASTS FOR A FULL FUCKING WEEK, and you LOSE MORE SP THE LONGER YOU PLAY. Its a punishment for players who play the game.

The system was put so players were about even. Meaning those who play only a few hours to those who play more often.
One issue in ffxi, is player lvled up too fast in some cases and always had to play catch up.
Then lvl sync came and ppl abused this to do smn burn pts.
Pretty much you have all these high lvl players who are clueless about the game and had poor skills.

Also it was to entice player to play all of the classes. And like ppl said, it is the WoW system, just in reversed. You start out rested then slowly get fatigued. It does add a sense of immersion if you think about it. You level up (work) say 8 hrs then take a break and do other stuff. Like the story on the main site about Leeroy. Like say you was fishing for a while, your buddies wanted to explore the local dungeons. You do that for a while then go relax and sharpen up your gear, then maybe do a bit of cooking.

The only reason no one likes it, is it slow them down in hiting "end game". Well once it gets added. Which I'm happy about.

To clear this, you can be on the game for hours on end. Fatigue is only effect by sp/exp getting. And is only one class. Meaning all your classes start our rests and only lvling that class will your rested state decrease.
This is prob who they don't want quest mobs to give sp, since it will be counted tward fatigue. So you are not punished for playing. Just for lvling 1 class for too long. Like in real life. Just switch to another class or log off and take a break. Or better yet do other stuff like exploring instead of always lvling.

The armoury system (that everyone is also complaining about) already accomplishes this. This in no way explains why we have to be 'forced' to level another class.

It's true that the system really doesn't differ in theory from the World of Warcraft system.
Now, I don't want to roll around comparing every in and out of FFXIV to WoW...I'd like to see a genuine departure from what the MMO world has become comfortable with. The problem for most players probably lies in the system description. Calling it "fatigue" suggests a penalty, while calling it "rested XP" suggests a bonus. Either way, if you want a leveling bonus you'll have to take a break or switch your class/character. Obviously taking a break and keeping your character at minimum fatigue for leveling produces relatively the same result as leveling for the same amount of time with fatigue.

It's world of complaints out there. The fatigue system just isn't anything new, as people have noted. If you're alright with a video game company issuing the equivalent of nap times to the consumer then SE should probably be focusing on other aspects of game play.

Fatigue is hardly even noticeable unless you are super hardcore, with that said it isn't doing what it is intended to do so might as well scrap it.
