Loading zones, and directly streaming from the HD to load characters/enemies will be faster. (examples would be FATE mobs showing up sooner, and further. But only similar distance to what would be shown in low pop scenarios. Along with zoneing taking half the time.)
Would it reduce the input lag? Meaning, would you still get damaged even when you're clearly out of the AoE zone?
If I recall an ssd has little effect on ps3. The read speeds are OS locked (maybe wrong).
The input lag cannot be resolved that is a ps3 downside.... I've seen so many ps3 players eat dive bombs
You're probably better off getting a PS4 or upgrading your PC. SSD is a short term fix and with more emphasis being focused on next-gen gaming PS3 user could potentially be left in the dust. If you can't wait 3 months for the PS4 release then SSD can give a small but noticeable increase to frame rates and load times.
I'm on PS3 and currently nothing in the game would make my experience "game-breaking", other than attempting speed runs but idc about those. It really depends on your ISP. My buddy is on a PC and I get much less lag than him due to him living on the west coast and I'm central.
Might wanna save for a PS4 if you have to play on a console. Just not worth it to throw more money at your PS3 since PS4 version is around the corner.
Meh, I guess I'll stick to PC. Hopefully the input lag won't be a problem on the ps4 version.
Very wrong! :p
Best thing I did was put an SSD in my PS3, loading times are 4x quicker at least - thats game boot, zone loads, cut scenes and monsters/players on the field.
If your gonna be playing XIV on your PS3 for a while yet I'd say put an SSD in, you'll notice the difference before the title screen loads :)
I guess I was wrong about the read times. However, that doesn't change input lag.
The lag is .3 second delay between client and server if we're talking about same thing, but thats on all platforms as its the way the game was built. Oh I still get limited characters on screen at a time like in Modhoa but they load super quick and draw distancing is greatly improved, but the limited characters/NPCs etc is hardware limitations - not complaining though as im just amazed they got an MMO like this to work on a console at all :)
EDIT: Yeah its very useful for playing games of HDD/PSN download, even games with big installs are impoved e.g. MGS4 (like 2 second load screen), GTAIV (GTAV I guess), trust me if you cant afford a PS4 for a while an SSD in the PS3 is a good performance boost.
The input lag was probably the deciding factor of me getting an SSD. Then again, it probably useful for other games that I downloaded through the PSN.
I'd second that - dropping an SSD in the PS3 was one of the best decisions I made. I recently tried playing on my girlfriend's stock PS3 and was SHOCKED by the load times. Everything is so much smoother.
And keep in mind that the PS4 will also accept an SSD - I'm planning on upgrading that with an even larger SSD.
Hugely beneficial, and it's never been more affordable.
An SSD is game changing for the PS3 version, take the advice from the people who have made the change. If you are planning on using the PS3 version for a while you'd be a lot better off using an SSD. If you play on PC as well or want a PS4 then you'd be better off saving for the PS4, but obviously financially the PS4 is a hell of a lot more money than 1 SSD lol! It's definitely worth it if you play XIV a lot.
