Needs to be a 20 min cd timer if..

IMO as I am getting sick and tired of having to spend more time than needed in duty finder, there needs to be a 20 min cooldown penalty if you withdraw in ANYWAY once the commence/withdraw window is up. I am so sick and tired of people always withdrawing when its ready to go, forcing the rest of us to have to sit in the queue for more time. Thus I think they should put a 20+ min cooldown timer on df if you do not hit commence on that window, to stem the tide of so many people (especally tanks) always hitting withdraw the second its ready to go. Got near instaqueue for a thornmarch as a dps, and then one of the tanks withdraw, now I been sitting here for over 20 mins waiting for another to join so we can get started. There needs to be a penalty, if you need to go afk, or you don't want to commence, do not queue at all.

This is caused by greedy selfish people "fishing" for party in progress to get easy tomes and boss rewards and I do aggree the penalty system should be introduced ASAP as it's getting out of controll fast. There is already several threads here discussing this particular issue with numerous disgusting people there trying to defend such behaviour by silly claims like "it doesn't affect those I do not join in any way" or "it was designed that way" and other similar nonsence blabling.

Little do those people know it does effect those who you didn't join since they get stuck in the queue, and if it was a tank that did it, they could be in there for another 20+ minutes.

While I agree this is a real problem, it's also harsh to impose a penalty on everyone. Sometimes I queue up and then something comes up IRL, or a FC member will ask for help, or I forgot I needed to repair, etc etc and I need to withdraw. If I was forced to sit out for 20 mins because my phone rang right when the DF popped... No fun :(

I think they should allow those looking for in-progress to only queue for in-progress. These people are going to keep withdrawing over and over and over until they get what they want anyways. Might as well separate them out.

On a side note, there's another issue with low-specs rigs and loading times where you may be stuck on black loading screen after changing zone, so you may get yourself automatically withdrawn because the timer runs out. It happens to me from time to time (although it got better lately), annoying as it may be, so imposing a penalty before entering the dungeon wouldn't be fair in those cases (aside from what jabbywocks stated).

Not after one time. I'd say if it's after 3 times. And 10 minute cool down. That, combined with not knowing how far in progress the run is, would be pretty discouraging I think.

Then again, what do I know. I've seen tanks come into CT, see we already passed the boss they need, or we aren't at the exact boss, and they leave. When either way if would have taken less time to get to their boss so they could need and leave, or finish the run with the group instead of deal with the 30 min lock out.

I'd say allow one withdrawal without penalty (to allow for either technical glitches or unavoidable RL issues), but if within half an hour someone withdraws from two groups after they're formed, then they get a 20 minute wait before they can queue again.

Oh, and withdrawals before the DF groups you up with other people don't count towards this. Sometimes I'll start in DF, then before it finds a group for me I'll hear from a FC member that they'll join. I think that's a valid reason for withdrawing in order to group with them and re-queue with both of us. It shouldn't be penalized, provided that my original time through DF had not yet paired me up with a group.

I think the best solution would be to have the people who clicked the confirm button remain together in the party-to-be. So we don't have to click that confirm button over and over and over, untill all 4 - 8 - 24 have clicked it. The whole queue should never be reset simply because one person decided to withdraw (for whatever reason).

A possible solution to this, and maybe easier for Square-Enix would be to... Limitate the number of parties you can enter in the day, and I mean. There's people withdrawing because they want to go to a party already done that is in the middle of a dungeon for easily leveling or so, isn't it? Then limitate the 'join to an already started party' to once per day, or twice. That way you finish with this problem, because that people wouldn't even keep trying to withdraw, it would be pointless if they already joined twice that day, because there won't be a chance they could join to an already started duty anymore.

Of course it could be applied in different ways, such for example, applying it every 24h, so every 24h you have two 'allowances' for joining to an already started duty.

Just an idea I came with.

20 mins is a bit harsh, I'd say drop it to 10-15 mins after the first withdraw. That sounds like a reasonable punishment for withdrawing, since those with actual legitimate reasons to withdraw can probably take care of whatever it is in 15 mins and requeue without issue. And as for the people just looking for quick tomes... well, they're already irritable enough about people watching three minute cutscenes. I'd think 15 mins would be enough of a deterrent to teach them a little patience.

If another party member is added to fill the gap immediately, this would make sense, but what if there's a bit of a wait before the group fills up again? The fact that you're ready now doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be ready five minutes from now, not if in the meantime you've changed classes or started something else. I think that's the reason for repeating the ready-check with each completed group.

They'd have to be careful not to overdo a solution like this. If they make it significantly harder to join a party in progress, that also makes it significantly harder for a group that's left short-handed to get a replacement party member so they can finish.

Besides, a daily limit would still allow the sort of repeated-withdrawing pattern the OP discussed when a player hasn't reached their limit yet.

I would probably stop playing the dungeons for roulette if they implemented a timer. Doesn't happen often, but once in awhile you run into some really awful people attitude wise. I don't see why I should be penalized or forced to play with people who ruin the game. But then again...I'm usually done for the day when I leave anyway.

Think easiest solution is to not show whether a dungeon is in progress or not. So you don't know until you enter. Selecting join in progress means you are happy to join ione in progress to help them complete, not to cherry pick. If everyone decided to do that, there wouldnt be any dungeons done at all.

Get rid of the boss counter on pop up. Solved (probably :P ).
