Server Divided by Language

Well I happened to catch a nice read into a Japanese post within their section of the forums and this is the link I've had the pleasure to find:

Google Translate should be able to help for those who can't read Japanese, but the topic being discussed, and has a nice amount of reply's/viewer's, is about dividing servers by native languages.

I'm not a big fan of the idea and certainly wouldn't want to see the lovely Japanese talk vanish from our servers, but I thought it might be an interesting topic for the English speakers as well (regardless of outcome).

Diversity is good, when you can understand each other anyways. I know the Internet has advanced communication by lightyears but there is still something truly inspiring about being able to converse with someone on the other side of the world.

having multi-language servers is one of the reasons i stick to this game. People playing tend to be more openminded.
And i love to meet people from other countries online. On mmos with language servers i usually go on servers with another language... its just more interesting.

I found that one of the hardest things to get accustomed to in Final Fantasy XI. It made for some very odd things like trying to communicate in group at first and I thought it was a major downfall to the game and why it didn't get twice as many subs to be honest. However, with this game as it currently stands, all that would do is hurt the game that much more. There is barely a population as it is on any given server. If you then cut it in half, people that turn on the game are going to be wondering where the MM in MMORPG is...

Also: I really enjoy the Japanese community. I think they make up for the general anger and nastiness others have while playing online.

I realy hope they dont do this as i play on a gmt time zone but i work mostly nights this mean's i play through the day time which is jap prime time most grinding pty's i have are with them this would leave me paddling up s**t creak without a paddle :'(

Absolutely not! Half of my LSes primary language is not english, I'd be pissed.

Having international servers is probably the only thing on which this game didn't fail too much.

I still dream of a big international server, instantiated if needed. Of course its the wrong game to dream.

Please DO NOT divide servers by language. It keeps the world alive during all hours of the day. And the interaction with JP/EU players was awesome in FFXI and is one of the main reasons I play FFXIV.

They could boost the cross-cultural interaction if they made open-world partying and grinding fun and rewarding again like back in the beginning. So many pick up parties would form back in the day.

The leve system is horrible at fostering international community play since there are so many obstacles in the way of just going out and killing stuff as a group.

This would be a major downfall in my opinion. This is one of the reasons I play FF, and I was in an LS in FFXI where we had JP members. I like that aspect the most, we had JP runs and we had NA runs for different events, thus an event going on at everytime during the day. Also it's sweet to talk with people from all over and I'm not just saying JP, some French, German, and other countries too.

It seems to me there is a JP following though that only enjoys playing with JP...because there is this notion with NA players that we're ignorant. Which I can say was sometimes the case in FFXI, one bad apple etc... If this happens it will definately be deflating to most players on both sides.

That being said communication is key, and there is a definite need for more auto-translate which at times can be hilarious to use but works.

Also in XI the JP were very elitist and rude a lot of the time, atleast to me. I dont know how many times they would rather sit and wait then take an NA tank. and this was just for grinding partys that could be communicated just fine through auto translate. Maybe. However, the translator made it hard to be overtly mean or nasty though, which is a nice change of pace.

No I literally mean everyone. Not "the JP players".

I like playing with people from other countries and I enjoy playing with the japanese. I like how one server has people from all ends of the world, it would be boring if its all NA or english speaking imo.

I still have hard time since FFXI why item names don't pop up in auto-translator once the item is in the inventory... have to wait or I remember had to equip/unequip or something like that to finally make it pop up in the auto-translator. Did they ever fix the <t> mob names in XIV not showing in players native language yet? I didn't test partying with NA players recently and been with JP guys only so shows up JP mob names on mine, but before I did <t> and on the NA client it showed up Japanese name which kind of sucked... I'm sure that one is a easy fix [mob_name] being assigned to your own language [mob_name] instead of just sending it text/variable...

I say a big no to this for several reason.

1) my linkshell has people in it from around 10 different countries. (this would kill my ls)
2) this would shut down FFXIV in the NA more or less. The economy would die, the game would be barren 6-8hrs a day. I mean look at Aion the worlds second largest mmo... and it is all but dead in the NA servers.... it would be worse with FFXIV.

Global servers is one of the biggest draws to FFXIV, removing that would be a horrible move for SE and probably a death blow to the game.

Ohoh, yes I would.
Let them implement translations for Leves, Quests, Party Search System and every future content they'll release (like Dungeons and Quest Hubs). Just more references in order to promote international communication =)

I've never tried the <t> thing though. I'd give it a shot testing it with my LS mates this evening.

I was following the Japanese thread for a while, but it got really long and started going in circles as they usually do.

I don't think SE is considering segregating servers by language or region, are they?

There are definitely people on both sides who would like to see that happen -- but thankfully there are many more who enjoy playing with people from different countries who speak different languages. It's one of the things that makes Eorzea fun for many players.

from my 4 year experience in FFXI and my current experiene in XIV, the japanese really really do not want to play with westerners while westerners very much welcome japanese gamers.... and this just another check mark on my list of experiences.

I've had only positive experiences with Japanese players. I've been in many roaming parties killing raptors with random Japanese people who showed no hesitation in letting me stay at all and were very friendly.
I'd hate to see servers divided by language/country, especially as populations are as low as they are right now and because of my good experiences with players from other cultures. If this was ever to happen, though, it would be around the PS3 release.

In the same way you'll meet bad mannered western players, you'll meet bad mannered eastern players. We're only human, after all.

I have had no issues partying with JP as well.

While there are good JP and NA players remember there are selfish JP and NA players.

Personally one thing I hated about NA players looking from JP players point of view are those who comes to EXP party and once they level they just F'ing leave, or once it's their time they just leave. In JP side they had some MMO manners or w/e they came up with from other games where they let others know they have to leave in X minutes, normally being 15+ min (unless emergency) or they will wait till the replacement comes. Some asshole players will just leave the party even without waiting which causes rest of the party to need to wait for the missing spot in the party to be filled. (Although in later FFXI updates it became so easy you don't even need full party to continue.) Now if you saw JP player do that to you, you know where they got that.

What I hated about JP players through NA players point of view + when I was growing up in Japan as Half Japanese/American and looks of American. Some JP asses can view NA players/people as low class and talk shit to them behind their backs, some in regular chat thinking NA's can't understand it... too bad they had me in the party... some of them use the JP ONRY (only) to keep them away from NA's and not wanting to even communicate. (Some really do want to communicate but have hard time so those sometimes put JP Onry also when doing special events and stuff so they can better communicate, NA on the other hand welcomes JP from what I noticed and tries to communicate to make it work; I dunno some NA thinks JP players play better... I've seen really really bad JP players myself just like NA players can be elite or total crap.

Now the good JP and NA players which I played with and running my own NA/JP linkshell for 6+ years in FFXI they really love to communicate, learn bits and pieces of each others language so they don't have to rely on the auto-translate or try to be able to explain it better (for some reason they always want to learn the foul language first...lol) But we had FUN we did have some times where players had miss communication but those didn't stick too long, either got resolved or one or both just left the LS (most of the time they just came back...lol)

Their was also cultural differences so some looting methods and point system kind of confuses each other but that part they just need to learn and get used to how JP or NA cultures work to understand.

Also adding this JP players are at least 16+ Middle School, to majority of College students or working adults, while NA players some times range from 12 yr old+ maybe younger?? I remember at FFXI Fan Fest seeing whole family with dad/mom/2 sons and the kids were young and they said they all played... I was like Whaaaaaaaaaaat!?!?!... My own family going to end up like that soon... lol so anyways yeah, age difference is also there. But guessing most in overall is 20+ in any region mainly.

there are just as many jp that want language servers as there are na/eu. yea the opinion is there but its not the majority, or at least i would hope.

were all on this stink ball together, eventually we will get over this tribe mentality.

Go play some FPS or PvP only game if you want to just leave whenever you feel like it. At least I ask everyone else if its ok to leave in 10min cuz wife bitching, or sorry I have to go emergency. I bet you just say, I got my level, don't give a F' about you guys later.

I kept a list of people who left with no warning just saying "thanks for party bye" and never partied with them after that. At least attempt to find a rep or give the party leader a 10-15 min warning...

It's common courtesy to let people know when you're going to leave in advance in any situation. You don't just leave a business meeting suddenly just because you feel like it, you'll leave a bad image of yourself. It might just be a game but there are people playing the game - human beings who will judge you for such acts and will most likely refuse to let you join them ever again.
If you don't mind this happening, however, then that's fine. I just hope life doesn't become too lonely for you because of how self-centred you appear to be.

Also Reinheart didn't point out anyone in particular and especially not you, so there was no need to personally attack him for explaining his viewpoint.

One of the main reasons I play this game is because I get to interact with people regardless of the time of day. I can log in at 2 in the morning and find alot of Japanese players to interact with. I can log in in on almost always somebodies prime-time, we don't have to be like.

I've noticed this as well.

The majority of the people in my 2 main linkshells (both Japanese) and in-game friends are finished with school, and many have families.

Conversely, I'd say about 50% of the non-Japanese players I know are college students or younger.

I've always found the difference a bit amusing.

I agree completely.

Friendly, helpful, and considerate people tend to be welcome wherever they go -- and if there are language and cultural barriers, people will go out of their way to overcome them.

Speaking in general terms, not about anyone in particular:
Selfish and inconsiderate people are not going to be very welcome, even in their own society.

why EU players never request their own server while JP players always want it?

why EU and NA can be in the same LS/party while JP players can't?
