Why we play a MMORPG ?

To play with other people in a RPG.

What is a RPG ? ( simple vision)


A game with a deep story, a world which makes you dream, a choice of gear (itemization) that makes you feel unique, and taking avantage of the stat system et skill system makes u feel really powerfull.

This feel of beeing a hero in a magical world is what makes a real RPG

What do we have now ?

a story that was pretty good but really short and we forget it after 2 weeks into the game

A gorgeous World, that is underexploited, with all those teleport/Duty Finder, no open world content, no feel of danger in that world

the itemization is bland, u just looking at one stat "iLV", yes sub stat can be exploited but lets be honest, its really oversimplified and almost no freedom. And everyone is a clone

the combat system is : u have your optimal rotation, and try to apply it in the environnement where you are fighting, which makes the way you re playing really repetitive

What kind of content they re adding ? Furniture, Minion

All those ressources spent to something useless for the immersion of the game

Why not spend those ressources on charismatic NPC with deep story, more monsters

Why having implemented Crafting/Gathering when the game direction is clearly not about using those item crafted

Why removing materia system of 1.23 which gave great freedom of customization

I dont feel this game is an RPG, its a petshop game ? an FPS Lobby RPG ?

the version 1.0 > 1.23 was an amazing transformation

currently 2.0 > 2.2 is nothing amazing, generic character, generic fights, generic patches, generic game

Im waiting SE starts to really work on the RPG core, and not waste ressources on fan service, service that makes people just nostalgic about previous wonderful games

I like it, I can't seem to find the time to complete everything.

And 2 weeks? I really couldn't read much past that.

Welcome to the global standard, didn't you hear everyone else does it so it's perfectly fine to keep copying the same MMOs over and over and add nothing new, just learn to love Final Fantasy as fervently as I do.

im seriously thinking of leaving. Never like this kind of MMO. thats why i used to be a fans of FF mmo, because it wasnt like mainstream mmo. now Yoshi is just like every other bad Producer who think about money. this game is a Vanity game.

yeah maybe you have the good pace to play the game, but dont worry you will catch us

but we legacy are something different, im not even playing hardcore, i log for coil/myth cap/extreme primal, for a total of 10h a week ( and all week are same)

Tell that to the people that harasses others when watching Cutscenes for the first time.

I'm loving the game but Im optimistic and can agree with everything you said. Im also realistic in that the world don't revolve around me but I barely have time to do everthing Im still behind on alot this fits me very well. Also I'm on PS3 soon to be PS4 so there isn't alot of options in the first place. I do wish in the near future they add more open world content though, that would be #1 in my book.

What MMO has ever had a story that was worthwhile in the long run? SWTOR maybe? Sadly I hear it failed in most other regards, so it mattered little.

Overall though, story cannot support a MMO. You clear it, and you're done. Story is 'pure' content, and they cannot keep up with players in creating that, nor can they set long term goals related to the story, as the story is the one thing everyone should be able to see. MMO's require certain mechanics that will always make them MMO first and RPG second.

Further, 1.0 > 1.23 'had' to be a fantastic transformation... 1.0 was a complete failure in their regard, and it had to change. However, 2.0 has been an overall success for them, so moving toward 2.2 and beyond will be much of the same, while expanding into new things here and there. Nothing drastic has to happen anymore.

You may not like the style of the game, but it's moving along just fine. Once they're done filling out what we've got, we'll see new systems emerge.

I like furniture and minions.

I have to say that the amount of non gmeplay stuff they have added lately makes me sad because of all the missed opportunities. Furniture field buffs? No. Chocobo barding stats? Sorry it's useless. Mount speed differences or actions? Nope it's just visual.

I really hope at some point they focus on gameplay and adding more systems.

It was pretty good before and got insanely good after the first expansion. The next expansion was a good story, also. Wings is where that story went bad. Overall I'd give XI an A+ in the story category just for Zilart and CoP. Please don't reply with the same old "new game" mumbo jumbo. They have had years to develop a deep story and good game mechanics. Instead they let the programmers flow like water in the direction that was fastest and easiest to complete. It's half-assed and we all know that whether we want to admit it or not.

Like raids and (combat-centric)dungeons and all that crap.

well, all is not about efficiency and goal...
MMORPG is a game where the main goal is not the pve or pvp or craft.... but meet people and do stuff together!!

it can be meet and spend time to talk in a house, or spend time to make your toon like you want it look like.

all is not around raid and itemization... that a trouble that have appear with WoW. people did loose of sighs that the goal of a mmorpg is to meet people... not do a raid!

ps: by the way, when the 2.2 will be out, it will have added to the game sincet he release of ARR:

- 6 dungeon (2 new and 4 hard mode that are different of the normal mode)
- 2 raid content (Crystal tower and Bahamut coil 2)
- 3 primordial in hard (ultima, mog and leviathan) and 5 in extreme (leviathan, ifrit, mog, garuda, titan)

- 4 faction to increase via dailies. (Sahagin, kobold, sylph and amaljaa)
- housing (for you is useless but it's still content)
- pvp (not perfect but they balance it and work in it)

from my memory i don't remember any mmorpg that in 7 month after it release that had added that much content... and i don't talk of all the other stuff like the modification of the graphic that coming with the 2.2, aestitician,...

all this stuff even if it don't meet "your" standart it's still huge all the work they have done. mayb is time to take a bit of time for rethink your way to see the game.

yes and u know what ? i dont have anything to do in the game beside raid, i hardly log on and then dont know too much people

there s nothing to speak of beside "oh u changed haircut", "wow this minion is so cute", "i wish i would buy a house..."

I loved ToAU and I liked WotG, except the long ass times they made us wait between more. Even just the original nation mission storyline stuck with me more than XIV's story did.

Not only have they had years to develop one, it's also SE who's doing it, look at all the things they've come up with, so you'd expect a good story, not...whatever this is we got. It's only been a few months and I hardly remember XIV's story. It's been 9 years since I started XI and I still remember all of the story, including most of the side quests (for scrolls or jobs).

This is kind of your fault. You had the option of keeping your character and you did, which means in theory FFXIV has given you an absolute truckload of entertainment hours. The fact that you find 2.0 less entertaining is because you carried over those hours from 1.0. If you started fresh, you'd still have a lot to do. The amount of content in 2.0 is actually pretty good for a game released only in August. You just had a 1000+ hour head start.

My suggestion would be to unsub for a few months. Dabble in something else. Come back after 2.3. You'll probably be at a point where you have a lot more to do. Or, maybe make a new character and start from scratch? If neither of these options appeal to you, sorry, but you don't have any other options.

The problem really is that we "feel" like 1.23 > 2.0+ is a downgrade in term of gameplay and itemization

Some would argue that improving immersion and developing a lore beyond "There are bad guys, you are the good guy that beats them up" is a waste of resources that would be better spent on phat loot to do BIG NUMBERS on Ultra Mega Extreeeeeme [insert guitar riff and explosions] mode.
