Should low-level roulette reward scale with difficulty? Cutter's Cry Woes

Kinda a rant if anything. I was really excited when I saw they patched the roulette where we could get different dungeons. I finally tried low-level last night for the first time after patch. Cutters... Cry... Holy freaking crap. Maybe it's bad luck I got it. It actually was my very first time going to this dungeon. I don't believe there is anything in the storyline, or anything that points you to it, and makes you run it. At least not back when I started the game. Anyhow I let everyone know I was new(which made the whm chuckle cause I guess he saw I was ilvl85 or something idk). Also another member was new, and wasn't level capped. Took us 45 minutes to get to the boss. Is that pretty average for this dungeon? If it is good god it should be a high level roulette, or at least give the same daily bonus as high level does. The earlier boss's were forgettable.

Chimera however.. The healer gave me the run down on how it worked, run in on violet/dragon voice, run out on blue/rams voice. I'll admit I got hit a few times that first attempt. But after that it was pretty cake for me. However it wasn't for the remainder of the group. Even the healer that told everyone else how its suppose to be done. Suffice to say it took like 8 attempts, and we had 5 mins left on the clock.

There was one attempt where I was attempting to kite it and survive. It seems like the tank can easily solo this by kiting alone.(made me wish i had innerbeast back to its former glory). It's just you can't make any mistakes, and it takes a really long time. I nearly beat it that way, but slipped up and died. It was just a very stressful experience overall. Doing a low-level dungeon and spending 85 minutes doing it. That's kind of excessive. I keep telling myself the next time it pops up I'm going to try vote abandon on it, so everyone can go do something else that is a lot faster.

Should they adjust roulette bonus's to scale with difficulty/time the dungeon takes? Or should they just bring out the nerf hammer on the difficulty a little bit. I'd be happy to keep chimera as is, and just wipe out, oh.. about half the monsters in the dungeon, or reduce their HP.. I'd happily go back to being restricted to halali, copperbell mines easy every day, instead of having to do cutter's cry ever again.

Cutter's Cry is working as intended. No need for adjustment. Roulette is now working as intended so expect to do some higher dungeons, many of which will take 50-60 mins (just did CC myself in 45) as more people roulette que into CC more people will be familiar with the fight and it will go smoother. CC is not a story dungeon and like other non story dungeons it is a little more difficult. But since 3/4 of the people in groups now days are level synced you at the least have gear on your side. The problem is not this dungeon. The problem is the old roulette spoiled you with 20 min lowbie clears and 5 min Ifrits.
PS: since the update I've ques Sunken Temple once, Tam Tara three times.

So I'm assuming its logical to you to get less reward for a dungeon that takes twice the effort of anything on high level? except maybe PS. lol
And spoiled us with ifrits? Please I'd like to see one person that can count the number of times they did a low level primal(any primal) on more then one hand. If it was originally intended to have duty roulette so that old players will help out the new players, then you would think they'd give a better reward for the dungeons that take a really long time. Otherwise old players wont want to help the new players with the dungeon. For instance I plan to try vote abandon on this dungeon going forward because its just unacceptable to me, and I'm sure many other players, to expect us to sit through 85 mins with new players, for such a minor bonus. It just won't happen, or wont happen for long. Everyone would be many many times more willing to spam Manor HM then to put themselves through that kind of wasted time. This change to increase the randomness of low level duty roulette I'm afraid is likely going to have a negative impact on what they intended. People may soon, if they haven't already, give up on the low level roulette, sense its more time efficient to just do one/two Manor HM runs.

Its unfortunate that older players, like me, need to be given incentive to help people to begin with. But its just the way it is. Everyone wants to get the most out of the time they are spending online. Esp if you have a day job, and only get 2-3hrs to play a day, if that. SE will need to create a system that increases the reward based on the length of time it takes. I know they had a setup for beating the dungeon in a certain time frame, with new players. But really there needs to be a incremental reward based on how long it takes, give players a reward for actually being patient with new players. That way we can try to deal withall this freaking vote abandon, people d/c or just straight up quitting the raid because the group wiped once.

Roulette rewards you for taking on a task with a significant number of factors out of your own control. Here's 100 tomes for doing whatever the big wheel lands on. It's right there in the name: roulette. It's a gamble. Sometimes you win big (Ifrit), sometimes you barely come out ahead, if at all (Aurum Vale).

Cutter's Cry is not hard, the reasons you feel it's hard are because you and some of your party members are new to that dungeon AND your gear synced down - with insufficient knowledge on a dungeon and lower tier gears, heck even Wanderer's Place could be a challenge for new 50s.
Run it a few times and you'll feel like you're running Wanderer's Palace / AK after nerf.

Roulette is working as intended.

The reward is that the XP is waaaaay better than the lower level dungeons.

If you all were level-capped then it's just similar to the current issue with Pharos Sirius where people just aren't used to the fight. Just because the WHM knew how it worked doesn't mean that they've actually done it before on WHM or are any good at dodging or being attentive as to what is being cast.

With "Roulette" in the name you can't expect it to be a safe bet every single time you try.

OP: To be honest, it sounds like it was just harder since it was your first time in there. If you happen to get it again, you'll probably wonder why you found it difficult. More on topic, I don't think they should adjust the reward. Helping out newer players should be a reward in itself. If you're just doing DR for the myth, you're doing it out of self-interest and would probably be better off just running CT or Haukke Manor HM for myth.

I got Cutter's Cry on the low-level roulette last night. I was on my WHM, and I had only completed it once before on DRG. Overall, I think it went really well. I was excited to see something other than Sastasha, and I enjoyed that it wasn't exactly easy. I could see it getting easier once I get used to the mechanics, though. And I was lucky to have a tank in the party who knew what he/she was doing.

Well Id agree with you guys ordinarily but honestly CC was pretty straight forward, and we didn't fail any boss until chimara, 45 mins to get to the boss? I mean even my worse WP runs didn't exceed 35 mins. And that was with me at my ilvl plus a bunch of new players. Idk maybe your right. But I feel like this dungeon is more akin to what AK was before they removed some mobs and reduced the hp of the monsters. If it was more inline with the speed of AK and WP I think it would be better balanced imo. Forgot to mention we sneaked by several monsters along the way.

You are aware that if you want to you can skip all the enemies between the first and second bosses?

well just got it again, and was like oh god here we go.. The people i was with said it wasn't that bad and I guess I just got a bad roll of new people with me last time. was done in 35 mins. So I retract most of what I said. I still believe it would be hugely beneficial to have a reward that scales with time, so people will be more patient when others aren't doing so great, so your least likely to be abandoned. So you don't have to pray to get a tank like us that sticks around the whole run(then comes to the forum to cry about it)

Man, some people are really spoiled by speedruns nowadays.

CC hard? It is like the easiest dungeon in the game. All the bosses are tank and spank. Only boss that can be hard is the first one, but with some sleepy power even that is easy. Pretty short aswell if you do not get all treasure boxes.

CC amused me when I was leveling bard because I'd always end up solo kiting the boss to death.

Lol.. OP wants easier, I want as hard maybe even a little harder and variety. If you make the game too easy it's not worth playing. The only thing that has been too hard so far in FF14:ARR is Twintania pre- twister nerf.

I got into Cutter's Cry a couple nights ago. I had been saving it as a dungeon to do with my friends with no prior knowledge, but so much for that thought. In all honesty, Cutter's Cry was probably the easiest dungeon I've run so far, and I've run all of them through Wanderer's Palace. It was a little longer than average, but not really difficult at all. We were running two black mages and while the tank held the larger groups, we'd use Fire II to kill them off several at a time.

I had to triple-check that someone was actually asking for Cutter's Cry to be easier.

Cutter's Cry only takes more time than anything High Level when you are overgeared for the High Level instances. If you could run into Cutter's Cry with an iLvl 10-15 levels higher than the dungeon, you too would find it to be much easier.

Cutter's Cry, though, is tuned fine. Is it easy? No, it's not easy. But it's not impossible, either.

It's strange, I did a roulette one day, got tam-tara, got 150k exp for finishing it. Did it the next day same class 1 level higher, got CC, got 81k exp for finishing. Is it because you get more xp per mob vs Tam-Tara?

I think from your experience it sounds like any other dungeon really... sometimes you will just get a party and certain things will happen that mean it's harder. Other times you'll breeze through. I don't think the solution is to change how the rewards work. It might even encourage people to deliberate slow things down just to get a better reward.

What I would like to see is more tiers to the roulette perhaps. When leveling a class recently, I found myself wishing that there was a mid-level category instead of just "below 50" and "50". The difference between the difficulty and mob experience for a level 15-20 dungeon is quite different to a level 35+ dungeon, so when doing the roulette at higher levels, I'd quite like to have that option.

On the other end of the spectrum, the first time I did CC our dps dc'ed just before Chimera. We decided to try it anyway with just 3. A DRG popped in with Chimera half way down. For them - shortest dungeon ever.

Yes. The Bonus experience you get at the end is based on the difference in your level to the level of the dungeon. So, in a higher level dungeon, you'd get a smaller bonus at the end, but you'd get more throughout the instance. The total should be fairly comparable between them.
