paladin rotation too boring and game play not interactive.
All the time, hence I made sure I have a tank dps and healer classes! Go get yours today!
I don't know why you need to have 1 main. The whole point of Armory System is you are all your jobs on one character.
Not everyone appreciates diversity. Some prefer keeping it simple and clean.
If you find Paladin boring at times, play a Warrior. I feel like that at times, and Warrior is so much more interesting, fun, and diverse.
That said, if I was looking for effectiveness, I'd still go Paladin. For all content where I am tanking, I still fall back to Paladin as that is my most geared class. Outside of that, have fun with different roles and jobs.
I have a trained and at least Darklight geared BLM and WHM - so I have a caster limit break, and a healer limit break as and when needed. My Dragoon is coming up, so I'll have a melee limit break as well.
I want another main not necessarily out of boredom though. I love WARing but I'd like to see what's it's link MNKing around on the other end. So far I've been enjoying it solo while spiritbonding some old dated gear of mine. All I can think about is, "If only I had another me on the other end keeping this mob perfectly still and distracted? Muahahahaha!"
I've been messing around with Thaumaturge because of the generally less-than-respectful party members I keep encountering while Paladin.
Thaumaturge is easy, at least at low levels.
"What do you do?"
"I blow stuff up."
"Then what, man?"
"I blow stuff up some more."
yeah, but then i get annoyed about how much control a tank has over the success of a group
sometimes it's really painful watching some people trying to assume the responsibilities of the tank role =\
SOme do prefer keeping it simple - but they're missing out on a lot of things IMHO.
I honestly think that after some time... you are supposed to have multiple classes to enjoy the game a bit better. Otherwise you will tire out quickly and/or run out of things to do.
Try out WARs and another one or two DPS classes to see what you like - or even a healing class.
I have been trying out the BLM and PGL/MNK class as of late and it has given me a lot of valuable insights.
(now if only the DF/Roulette system is a bit more.... )
I finally put my hand into healing (WHM, level 50, DL) and leveling BLM. definitely puts a new PoV on things. There are times when I itched to "blame the tank" but kept myself back. I hated it when done to me....even if deserved. One person saying "HEY!" is enough.
But otherwise, it did get a little old day in and day out as only PLD. Now I know what other people are going through on their classes. I just hate looking for defensive CDs when they aren't there...
Get yourself another 50 you might like. Nobody wants to grind using the same rotation for years (and for those who do, I won't care to hear about it), that's why being able to swap jobs within the same toon is awesome
Play other classes, it will make you an even better tank. I now have a 50 monk, blm, bard, and war. I now have perspectives from the offtank, melee dps, and ranged dps. Healer is next, and today I healed my first dungeon.
These new classes will give you new perspectives, and if you keep your main as tank, you will be much better off because you know what these other classes go through, and what they are capable of. You can also teach others or remind them of certain abilities they may or may not be using.
Also, it helps with the boredom. One thing I can say though is wait until you get a class to 50 to make a final judgement about it. Most classes I have done so far are not extremely entertaining until about late 20s-30s. When you get it to 50 and have numerous abilities, especially your higher level ones, it is much more fulfilling.
Id say if ur bored, try a dps class. Theres a reason why more ppl dps than tank or heal, its lots of fun. But Im a tank at heart. Everytime I dps I feel like I could be tanking better than the one I am teamed up with lol.
Got SMN to 50. LOVE Titan-egi, lol. Since I know most tanking parts if there is no tank in dungeon, the titan-egi can help us till one joins. Ironic that I still end up tanking tho...
Well id rather take paladin's simple rotation with the added instant skills rather than spamming two different combos and literally no instant skills.
First class I levelled after Paladin was Arcanist, gets you a dps and healer job. Did Monk then Black Mage after that.
My Paladin is i90 now and while I use it for FC raids etc, I play my Monk for everything else :)
if que times weren't so long I would play DPS all day long .
Also paladin atleast for me is the only class that doesn't have skills that are literally useless.
Got my PLD to i90 so really just use it for Coil for BiS. But I've been gearing BRD, SMN AND SCH.
Good fun and handy having different jobs to chose from.
I have my PLD for main i81
DRG is i73 w/ Relic (working on Zenith)
And I'm currently leveling up WHM for a healing class.
After that I'll probably finish with SMN for caster dps.
(that's not including my desire to finish leveling my gathering classes)
I pretty much use my tanks for about an hour or two a week (both allegan weapon i90) for coil then maybe ex, then spend the rest of time playing around on other roles. Basically gotta keep it fresh, and swapping different roles for fights is quite fun for me.
The worst thing about being a good tank is that when you do switch roles, it can be so painful to watch other people try and tank that you just go back to doing it yourself lol.
I'm leveling BLM right now to keep it fresh. But I do get pretty bored with Paladin.
Though I have started to utilize my Paladin to cap myth for hte week quickly to gear up my BLM instead of my PLD lol. If I get hard core into coil then I might spend it there but CT has been giving the needed upgrades to get up on my ilvl. Currently ilvl 72
I also would say leveling other jobs gives you the perspective of other roles thous making you a better tank.
I'm finding myself play non tank more and more. Square needs to make tanks more intersesting/engaging or DF times will get worse. Majoriy of skill checks are not healers/dps, so many tank fights stand in place 123 combo over and over.
I tank extremes for most of the week after Coil.
For everything else I switch roles around depending on whatever I feel like doing. i90 on both tanks, i86 on MNK and DRG, and i82 on BRD/WHM. BLM or SMN next, I guess.
This. This. So very much this. I've got every class at 50 and know at least the basics of playing all of them, along with the strats for all roles in most content (I'm kind of iffy on the *exact* instructions for DPS/healer in Ifrit and t5). Because I know how to play whatever job I might see, it is so monumentally frustrating to see people that don't know how to play their class flailing about uselessly when you know exactly what they're doing wrong. It gets even more annoying when you provide explicit and straightforward instructions about what they should be doing and they still can't even manage it.
I see BRDs that don't apply DoTs, WARs that only spam the BB combo, SCHs that never use their Aetherflow stacks, healers that never go into Cleric Stance when they have nothing to heal and are full on mp, mDPS that stand in one spot, etc. It's almost painful seeing people with no clue how to play who are apparently immune to any attempt to get them to begin to play properly and be completely power
I did try switching to monk as i get massive disrepect from douche bags in pugs. But after teaming with tanks that are also douche bags which is far worst. I switch back to tank role
Not only is it fun to actually really play and gear other jobs, it will make you a better tank hands down, no question about it! It also gives you a far better understanding of what's going on during a fight. (unless you're not doing any endgame, then just lvl some botanist and herb stuff. xD)
Yes but not because of boredom. I'm not fond of the new mechanics SE is pushing on us. My coil group was solo tanking Turns 1-5 by the end of 2.0. We could probably still do 2 and 4 but all we still solo tank now is Turn 5. With the changes to Rain of Death, the new primal fights, and the changes to turn 1 pre-split Caduceus SE made it clear they dont want players to come up with a variety of strats when they aren't outgeared by a fight anymore.
Garuda Extreme is the only interesting fight for me to tank (outside of solo tanking Titan). Both MT and OT have unique roles and a swapping mechanic that's not just bland "you need to swap at X stacks or you'll die". Yeah spiny will kill after 3 stacks but you just need someone with provoke since it will only ever do 4 stacks per phase.
Ifrit/Titan stacks are just really lazy design and boring if you aren't solo tanking. If 2.2 fights continue this fashion I will be switching my main.
All the classes in FFXIV are all rather simplistic. Tactically, the game isn't brimming over with complicated encounters that require much more than the basics.
That being said, This is the reason for the armory system. The fact that, with some understandable restrictions, you can do something different at the drop of a hat and a click of a button and not just in a "slight tweak" sort of way like most mmos do with their "Specs" but rather in very fundamental ways, like switching from a Defensive PLD to a Offensive Black Mage.
There's really no reason not to take advantage, especially if one is so bored that they took to posting on the forums about how bored they are O.o
I been tuning myself to other jobs more and more, I personally like to break it down into role vs role. Learning to play all jobs and knowing what to expect from them will even make you a better tank. If you been a tank main the transition is a lot easier imo, since you already know you can handle people/a high impact job.
Tank: Pld. It's just the better tank in most situations and has silence, yes war can be better in certain fights.
Healer: Whm. This is the most challenging job imo. All tho sch is really a better healer for the most part. With no helper pet, a non great mana replenish resource, non inst cast cure etc. You will have to be on your toes as everyone's life is always in your hands.
Melee DPS.Drg. Mnk has higher single target dps and silence. Some will say mnk is harder to play, I really don't see this. Mnk's dps will drop if not moving to flank/rear for attacks but Drg(proc's) will be forced to try again if not on rear/flank. But yes mnk has to watch more debuffs.
Ranged DPS:Smn. Well now, sadly these jobs seem kinda to simple to me far as rotations go. Brd can be more involved silence/songs. Blm eh. Smn if i had to pick 1.
Sadly altho you can lv all jobs, your hit with lockouts Myth/Coil/CT. So gearing all jobs can be a pain. Well you can gear them to a extent, but lockouts will make u focus mostly on 1-2jobs. Sadly people may look down apon you, because of gear and may even put a certain ilv on something leaving you out. Where knowing the job and having a ilv90 weapon/enough HP for the content is what really will make the most impact, on job performance.
Like others I have a healer and DD class levelled to do random parties on. It brings useful insights on how other classes function in order to be a better tank.
