ATI 5970 -horizontal line when in fullscreen crossfire

Hi, i have been having a problem with ffxiv in fullscreen from day one, ive tried every possible driver for the card, did it properly with driver sweep etc.

When i play off one gpu in windowed mode the horizontal blur line goes away.
As soon as i put it to fullscreen and use second gpu the blurred horizontal line comes back.

The card works perfectly for other pc games in windowed or fullscreen, i am currently playing crysis 2 at max settings 60 fps no problems at all. So im wondering if other 5970 or ati users are having a similar problem ?

System is:
I7 930
6 gigs ram
ATI 5970 gpu
Haf 932 case with v8 cooler etc.

I have seen the "horizontal line" with a 4850, 460 and 6970. This is the only reason I run in windowed mode.

I noticed this line when i have Ambient Occlusion Enabled, it almost looks like a shadow correct? it's not so much a dual GPU issue as it is an ATI thing, my wife's 6870 has the same thing, over time i learned to ignore it, i hope it gets fixed sooner or later.

Just disable Ambient Occlusion if it bothers you :)

Edit: I'm also running 5970's

Its the refresh line on the monitor. Windowed mode stops it.

No its not a shadow its more like the graphice for a thin line are blurred, the colors are all the same etc it alomost looks like the graphics in the horizontal line stay with what ever pixels are ther for a minute before it goes into the graphics its supposed to display. It only happens when i move the character. If i stand still the lines arent ther, and its not a constant line it shows up for a second than dissapears .. 10 secods later it comes back and than dissapears etc.

And ambient occlusion i have turned off.

Thought something was wrong with my card, I get it all the time. I'm using a 5850.

i get this also in windows mode. Blur line blinking across my the middle of my screen. sometimes in other places. Normally happens when you move from left to right while looking around. I have an older ATI card. think its the 4800..

I have a 5970 and i have the same issue in FS mode. Its like a transparent thin line that appears as you move your char. i have tried to force Vsync through the cat driver to no avail. Window mode @ 1080p my frame rates jump from 40-60. I hope SE takes care of this.

yes jovy and swev those both sound identical to the problem im having, it only happens in fullscreen for me though, in windowed mode when i on one card it goes away, thats odd that it would happen on the 4800, are you just running the one 4800? no second card?
Ive also tried forcing vsync etc. The only thing i havent tried that i saw posted somewhere else was trying a different monitor, i saw another guy having same problem as us and it turned out monitor was the problem.

Also xaiomaomi Is ther a way to get rid of it if its the refresh line on the monitor?

I only have one card and i could see it as a monitor problem. I never changed any of my graphic settings ether. /shrugs. Also why is it only doing this in this game and not others. At least from what i can see.

I have also used my Tv as a monitor with no success. The line still shows there. The only thing i could have tried was using just one gpu in FS mode but the new drivers dont allow it anymore. I am reluctant to go back to earlier drivers (mostly lazy) to see if it works. Hey SE FORUM MODS you're more than welcome to chime in here and offer a suggestion or 2.

hmm still happens on a tv as well, i guess the problem has to be in ffxiv side than, considering switching monitors doesnt work , and are cards work fine for other games.

Force Vertical Sync. That should fix it. Worked for me. I know with nVidia this done in the nVidia Control Panel, per application. I assume there is something similar for Catalyst Control thingy.

For AMD it's: CC->Gaming-> 3D Application Settings-> Wait for vertical refresh-> Always on.
If that doesn't work there's also RivaTuner which is using the "hacky" way :P

i used to play with ati and their force vsync doesnt work usually. I used Riva tuner (theres a tool if you install it, not sure if you can get it seperately) : D3DOverrider.

The ATI CC VSYNC DOESNT WORK! - perhaps it does now but as far as i know they still didnt manage to get this feature right.

This worked for ATI as well, i tried ATI tray tools, and i think all ati tools you can get, only this worked when i forced vsync.

The reason the flickering goes away is as soon as you get below the 60 fps, as soon as you get higher you get the flickering.
And vsync isnt a bad thing for your gfx card since the gpu gets capped at 60 fps (more then enough for ffxiv) and so you have less heating.

I've been getting this on my (single) GTX 460, always with latest drivers, since beta. It doesn't matter if I run full screen or windowed, with v-sync forced or not. I also tried forcing v-sync with D3DOverrider and playing on my TV but it makes no difference.

For me the line always appears at the bottom of the screen, then crawls up towards the top of the screen. I tend to only notice it when I'm running forward for an extended period of time and go up or down a slope.

I also get weird ghosting effects. It's most commonly noticeable on edges near the sides of the screen when the character moves rapidly, but from certain angles I can see it on moving objects even when I'm completely stationary. One example was the dancer in the miner's guild: When looked at through 3rd person camera it looks fine from all angles and, presumably, distances, however, when I get close enough and switch to 1st person camera, her whole body starts ghosting and tearing very badly. It's not an artifact issue, the frames just don't sync properly.

Same here, though I do not get it if I play in full screen with with V-Sync forced. I'm considering rolling back to the previous drivers. :/

Force Vsync through Nvidia Inspector if you have an Nvidia Card People.
I would NOT force Triple buffering in anyway though as it incurs one of the highest input lag penalties i've ever seen. Even WITH hardware mouse enabled.

Get RadeonPro and play around with the MVPU mode and vSync.

5870 here with the same problem..

I'm having or had the same issue, it went away when only using one video card.. Really disappoints me when i got a descent system and cant play a directx 9 game in max settings.. I have to run everything on standard, no aa, windowed, forced vsync, and turned on triple buffering and i get very playable game at 55-60fps out in the world..

My system:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 b55 @ 4.0Ghz
RAM: 4Gb DDR3 @ 1600Mhz
VIDEO CARD: 2x AMD 5770 @ 900Mhz/1300Mhz
HARDDRIVE: 2x 500Gb @ RAID-0

Funny thing is i know they will fix these issues when they can, it just gets on my nerves. I can play any game on maxed out settings i throw at this system and i get issue with a new but old directx 9 based game..

Well, did you try to change the multiple video processing unit mode? There's always one that works without graphical issues... it won't be the fastest one though.

I run an HD 6850 I get the small tear/distortion flicker when I go up and down stairs or some bumpy terrain. Forcing v-sync from CCC does not resolve this issue. I assume I would need to force a higher refresh rate because bumpy terrain = shaking camera and thus causing it because the screen isn't being refresh quickly enough. Sad thing is I have a 2ms response time monitor as well.

Also note this does not occur in windowed mode. It is something to do with full screen mode, I would run windowed mode... if it didn't cause a random crash now and then.

Last, forcing v-sync made things a bit more choppy. Your better off dealing with the tearing lol.

It happens to me in windowed mode as well as Swev, who posted earlier, can also confirm. :(

For some reason windowed mode doesn't get the tears for me, but I get a lot of the crashes in it.

gigabyte gtx460 1gb oc edition here.

gone through 2 monitors at the moment and i have to say i get this line occasionally too.

thing is, i only started to notice it after patch 1.18. never say it before then.

i have played with different settings, forced this, disabled that, increase option 2, decreased option 227 and so on and so on.

essentialy, and although some people have reported fixes, its a game issue. There is nothing wrong with your hardware, nothing wrong with your software.

This is a problem that SQUARE ENIX (yes, you lot that call urselfs devs) needs to address.

The fixes that some people are reporting are simply covering up a different issue. however, try the "fixes". if it hides the symptoms for you brilliant. but if it doesnt, we'll have to keep onto squre enix bout this.
