Server transfer gil limit too low.

My friend wants to transfer to my server but he doesn't want to lose 15m gil. You can only take 3m with you when you transfer. Does anyone else thing this is way too low? Personally I have 11m I would lose a lot of I transferred myself not that I plan to.

With stuff like 300m house prices you can see how 3m is almost nothing.

The low transfer limit is a hindrance to people that want to transfer to a new server to play with their friends. FFXI had no limit on how much gil you could server transfer with so why does FFXIV?

1 very simple reason. SE's total paranoia of RMT

They were concerned with RMT on FFXI as well but still they put no gil limit on server transfers.

Even though I don't see myself transfering again for a while I am going to agree with this statement.
Yoshi-kun, isn't it about time to abolish the whole legacy/non-legacy discrimination?
Are the economies of the legacy and non-legacy servers still that far aapart that it warants stealing people's well earned gil?

Nope, not anymore. Heck some non-legacy servers' economy are much are worst than Legacy. *Cough* Tonberry *Cough*

You could always turn your cash into comodities you CAN take with you like high demand materia.

Resell it "Do your research before you leave obviously" and you should either make a minimal loss or in the best case a profit. With a large number like 10m It's not as easy but hey there are a few items you can get away selling for a few 100k such as penta melded Ilvl70 jewelry.

It's 1.2m now, and 5m back when we had free transfers. Never has there ever been a 3 million gil transfer period.

Well its simple y FFXIV has a limitation but FFXI didnt... becuz they dont want to fuk this game up like they did XI.... duh. I dont think there should b a limit at all going between or to another Legacy server though. But personally i think the limitations should match each economy like housing prices did. Simple really

Too bad they don't take a page from Blizzards big book o' knowledge and make the transfer limit scale to character level. Restrictions are good to combat RMT, but there aren't many high level RMT running around.

Oh, I suppose there's the economy to think about. Can't have people moving gil from one dead economy to another can we?

The entire 1 star market on Leviathan is dominated by someone that consistently undercuts themselves to sell items for 1k or less, even when they're the only seller 90% of the time.

If u are concerned about not being able to transfer all ur gil, then u are one of the reasons of having the gil transfer limit in the first place.

If you're not concerned about being able to transfer all of your gil, then you are one of the reasons the economy is in shambles in the first place. "I don't need gil, so I'll just bomb the price of every item I sell into nothingness to get it out of my inventory!".

The problem is the lack of demand and not the fact that you can't sell your stuff for ridic prices.

Many items have a huge demand for them, namely 1 stars and various HQ gear sets that turn into T3-4 materia. Prices used to be high for many of them, but in some situations such as the one on Leviathan, there's one guy who undercuts himself and pushes prices down to 0 profit or sometimes into the negative unless you gather everything yourself. Take opportunity cost into consideration, and it's just a bad situation all around. It doesn't have anything to do with supply, demand, or competition for selling an item.

Then just buy from him.. I just don't understand why hate on undercutters. They also work hard to make their items like you do. Maybe you think your time's worth more than theirs?

Tell your friend to spend his gil on Allagan metal pieces on his server, he won't lose as much compared to buying other items when transfering over.

Tell him to create four alts, transfer 3m to each character, and then server transfer all 5.

No these undercutters lower the price by 50-100% and sell at a loss...

Is the gil cap for xferring different based on what server you're headed to? It probably should be...

For example on some servers the economies vary greatly. On Brynhildr someone having even 5m is a veritable forture. Its understandable that there is a cap to go there. It seems like SE just needs to come up with economical brackets so to speak and restrict gil on that basis.

Spend your gil on decent selling items that will transfer. Max out shards/crystals, buy high level materia/gear. Hell if u do some research you could possibly make a profit since things are different prices on different servers.

This is what a FC member did when he learned about the dropping of the 0 at the end of 1.0 he sunk nearly all of his money into endgame mats and sold them in 2.0 he actually tripled the amount of money he had in 1.0 .

Didn't they only start allowing transfers in FFXI years after the game was released? That's probably why there were no gil limits to character transfers.

So, any chance SE will change this?

Cant think of anyone outside the elite minority that might have anywhere over 10 mil on one of the fresh servers.

I have every crafter at 50, can make two-stars on everything, three-stars on some. I craft daily and try and sell as much items as i can each day having my retainers stuffed with popular selling items and keep my prices competititve by adjusting them every few hours. And still i only broke 3 mil earlier this week (due to being able to sell lots of furniture).

Unless you are selling EX runs or Coil, you're not going to get anywhere near the 10+ mil numbers. So really, anyone transfering in with more than 1 mil in gil is going to upset the balance, so restrictions have to be put in place, it's not even about RMT anymore. Especially with gil numbers being that common on Legacy worlds.

When i stopped playing 1.0 i had around 9 mil in gil. And i didnt even have a single level 50 job, or even a job. My highest was a lv.36 Gladiator, and i think my second highest was something in the 20's. Didnt do endgame, didnt farm, that was mostly from Leve rewards and collecting some crystal shards along the way. It was beyond broken. Now imagine what someone who actively farms has? Or who sells runs for gil on a server where the majority of the players hits 30-40 mil like it's nothing and would easily hand over half of it for a win to something they like to get.

There's a reason i started fresh, made a new character and didnt go back to my old character except for one time (when my own server was down). The gil on legacy servers is rediculous, and i wouldnt want to see it ruining our already horrific economy as it is.

Why don't you do the same thing that the majority of people do who have way more gil than the limit, invest in commodities before you go? This is actually a blessing in disguise, if you log into your new server and check prices you should be able to make some decent money by buying up items that are cheaper on your current server. But hey, if you don't want to try and make some gil that's your problem.

At 2.1, a frd did transfer told me it was 3m(including 2 retainers), so it was 1m + each retainer 1m (2m) = 3m , was it true? ^^;

Yes that was well after the Wings of the Goddess expansion and subsequent terrible additions that caused a mass exodus of its players. They began to allow server transfers because they were planning on merging a bunch of servers anyway cause populations had dwindled so rapidly.

I dont get all the XI hate in here. When SE essentially signed XI's death warrant in 2007 was when they basically started making XI more like how XIV is now. If you like XIV you should like post-2007 XI.

You cant mail alts at all. If you use an intermediary to transfer large amounts of gil you'll likely get caught up in one of their ban waves.

I thought the reason they limited it to begin with was to not throw the server economies off. More gil in a less populated server with less overall gil could unbalance it. It seems that enough time has passed, though, and didn't they even out housing prices across servers already?

Not sure.. /shrug
